Happy weekend
happy saturday, coffe, last nights kebab and a weekender what more do i need?
Happy weekend indeed.
Happy Weekend and yass genestealer cult 😀
Weekend’s here.
Ben needs a black background like Holly!
or a rotating box like max headroom.
I’ll get on it 😉
Great show! Glad y’all are back.
It’s the weekend!! The weekender after the “lost weekend-er”. Let’s see what’s been happening.
So let’s see:
Nick Park – multi award winning animator of W&G, plus Chicken Run (voiced by Mel Gibson). Wrong Trousers featured criminal penguin that dressed up as a chicken (!?!)
Vs
Wes Anderson ditected “Fantastic Mr Fox” film based on Roald Dahl book (voiced by George Clooney)
Wtf has this got to do with anything?
Mel Gibson of course rose to fame in original Mad Max movies while George Clooney ummm… is ummm… In some other film loosely related to one of the topics!
lol
With board games like “Mansions of Madness 2nd Ed” bringing in app driven games then I can see the emergence of micro-transactions, unlocking new scenarios etc. That may be preferable in some cases to buying physical expansion sets.
Mantic has a Kickstarter, I’m shocked! But I’m sure it will be fine. I mean it’s not like they’re just going to take one of their other products and just slap it into space right? And not right after Corvus Belli announced at Gen Con that they might be looking into doing a dungeon crawler set in their futuristic world of Infinity right? I mean it’s not like Mantic would ever just take the basics of someone else’s ideas and simply cookie cutter themselves their own cheaper knockoff right?
If its any consolation over a breakfast (ulster fry) in 2010 i was pointing out to Ronnie in great detail the virtue of dungeon crawlers (sci fi and fantasy) as gateways into more fully fledged worlds. We have since discussed it alot over the years.
This might have more to do with warpath and where its development cycle lies than anything else 🙂
Being American I’m not sure what an “ulster fry” is but I hope it was good. As far as Mantic goes if that idea had been mentioned by the company then I might have thought it a little more forward thinking, and while I may not think timing is always everything, it would lend credibility to a more original direction. I guess my attitude stems from the start of Mantic when they were just making cheap knockoff elves and such for Warhammer. I always felt that whatever someone thought of Chapter House, at least they came up with new things… Read more »
What about Project Pandora?
It comes across as a Space Hulk variant And the giant rats have been seen somewhere before……..Hmmm.
I mean what about giant “anything that hasn’t already been done by someone else”. Or what about small versions of bigger things. Like bipedal elephants that are only man-sized. Give them opposable thumbs and I would look at those minis. “Microphants” with laser weapons! They could control things while their trunks worked the interactive HUD’s! Better call my trademark office. I would hate for someone to “borrow” my idea.
An Ulster fry is a little taste of eternal bliss when one has a hangover!
So as long as it’s fried it could be almost anything? And I assume you mean the European “fry” like saying your having a bit of a fry up or something. Not the American “fry” as in dipped in batter and lowered into boiling oil to crisp the hell out of it.
Had a few Ulster Fry breaskfasts and dinners (one with @warzan) atythe Team Yankee bootcamp. Definitely tasty, although my bowels disagreed me a little afterwards. By “delicate” South Florida system just not used to it I guess. Then again, if I can handle Cuban food . . .
I think “cheap knock off” is a little harsh. “Cheap alternative” better. Knock Off sort implies some kind of counterfeit/copy; Mantic were trying to make cheaper models you could use as proxies. They do a lot of kickstarters and they get a lot of backers. Every single kickstarter, certainly in the gaming sector, has had customers who had missing or broken pieces or worse, missing deliveries. I’m not sure what is considered a normal success rate for pledge deliveries across gaming kickstarters (i.e. people who received their pledges without any issue) but even if the success rate is 90% (and… Read more »
Ulsterfry a local delicacy of Northern Ireland. Shares some similarity with the traditional full English breakfast. One key difference being that Soda bread is added.
I’m sure there is room for the two of them. I need the whynotboth.gif
Funny Lloyd mentioned he likes being a loser at tournaments. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. When you know ahead of time that you will mostly be losing, the pressure is off and you can relax and enjoy it. You can also learn a lot more and ask questions. If you are going in hypercompetitive, folks are less likely to be chatty and friendly. Great show lads!
Good Point.
This is certainly something that has come out of me playing plenty of card games at tournaments.
I know I’m not going to win and can avoid all the terribly boring decks and play against people who have done something a bit different and still enjoy it in a tournament setting.
Doesn’t mean I don’t like winning however and I have felt the heady highs of being in third place before…but it was a stressful experience!
The one thing that kept me away from Dungeon Saga was the dice matching mechanic for combat. Any word if Star Saga will use the same mechanic? Or will it be something else? I’d love to be able to use my Deadzone minis for the game.
Oh how I love getting my minions washed.
Great show, so cool to see some info about Star Saga.
I do have a slight criticism/critique though, but I will preface by saying this that we are all gamers, and we all get excited over shinies, but when conducting an interview please give the guy more of a chance to speak? Justin seems to spent a lot of time interjecting and projecting his own thoughts rather than giving the chap a chance to give us the info we are looking for, it makes watching the interview a bit jarring.
He does that all the time. If only I loved the sound of his voice as much as he does, it might make his interviews more even-keeled.
You should have booked to come over to the Walking dead Bootcamp …
You would have got first hand experience of the Ulster fry (you would love it)
You could spend some time with Justin to see just how wrong you have got the guy
You could spend time with Ronnie Renton and put to him all the stuff that’s bugging you and get a first had explanation of why he’s tried the things he’s tried
Could have been well worth the investment 🙂
In fairness I don’t think Justin is a bad guy, I was probably being overly sarcastic. It is the dead of night over here. It’s just an interviewing technique that needs to be honed is all. People work for years to be proper interviewers, and he’s only been doing it for a bit. Just suggest that he relax a little. Even though there might be a pause in speech, it doesn’t mean he’s doing a bad job. Let him know that as long as he is relaxed and more confident that he is doing a good job, then it will… Read more »
Justin is enthusiastic about games. It doesn’t seem to matter what games, as long as its a game. I think that’s better than being sedate and uninterested, there’s probably a middle ground between the two, but I’d personally rather Justin just did Justin.
@spaderfish and @warzan – I’ve done interviews with Justin several times (Revolution, Battlegroup, two for Barbarossa, one for BattleTech), I’ve actually never had a problem. if anything, in watching these interviews afterwards, I’ve always cringed a little at how much I’ve been “overrunning” Justin (and John), not the other way around. I’ll take enthusiasm any day. In these conversations, nothing is worse than the other person politely nodding his head, occasionally smiling, staring at an imaginary point between your eyes, and once in a while tossing out a: “Hmm, that sounds interesting.” – “Uh huh.” – “Please, tell me more… Read more »
I’ve met up with Justin twice during my time at mantic and he is an amazingly enthusiastic guy who I found draws out a lot from you when your talking to him.
I would not have or want him any other way.
As to the guys missing out on an Ulster Fry @warzan take them to that place near the train station!
Good morning and Happy Saturday, @Lloyd had it spot on. We may not have come first in the Dropzone Tournament, but there is always next time, @michel86 and @seldon9 a great team mates. We had a damn good time:-) thats what keeps me into DzC the community is excellent. Even the hardcore players are sound and will have a laugh. Net time i think @warzan or @dignity should join the team 😉
Another great show. Very relaxing listening to lloyds dulcet tones while nursing a hangover.
What I love best about Mechs v Minions is that it isn’t a Kickstarter. I don’t have to wait long to get my hands on it. I’m gonna skip Mantic’s Star Saga. I need every penny for the new KDM Kickstarter. Great show guys.
Glad to see it back, missed not having it last week. As I’ve said before, those Icarus Miniatures do look good, especially at the true proportions – the human Alliance look exactly as I want my space humans to! 🙂
Icarus project seems promising. The minis look great and the backstory of the universe looks ok. I can’t wait to see how it develops further.
i’ve put in for the icarus KS, as i did last time, Models are very nice.
I also like the fluff released.
Also – if anyones interested in the Genestealers – http://imgur.com/a/JszhU – vehicles!
Never took the plunge into a kickstarter before as I am a “I want my shit NOW” kind of guy, but a sci-fi dungeon crawler may just be something that would have to learn to be Zen about. I love the cinematic idea of taking a band of sci-fi characters doing a boarding action or fighting through a research station. I think this game could scratch that itch. Loved the Wreck-age interview. I am lucky enough to have a family of gamers and we are BIG role players as well as wargamers. There has been discussions about a post apocalyptic… Read more »
@darkiss lol, thanks! I LOVE my games
Awesome Wreck Age segment, @deltagamegirl22 ! 😀 Always had a soft spot for post-apocalypse / post-collapse / post-pandemic kinds of settings. Probably a result of watching The Road Warrior for the first time late at night on TV in 1985 . . . 😀
I’d roleplay that robot straight from Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy – “your plastic pal who’s fun to be with!”
This week is supposed to temp fix it with new cards but silver tower app was pretty much DLC new characters
@dignity: yes, it was Nikea, although Magnus defying the Council of Nikea was only part of the reason Prospero was torched. The Emperor was pissed because Magnus broke the wards on the Terran Webway gate, forcing the Emperor to try and plug it with the Golden Throne and send the Custodes and Sisters of Silence through it to hold bake the daemon hordes. Also, they were only supposed to bring Magnus back to Terra (presumably so he could help fix the mess he’d made or at least so he could be shoved into the Throne to plug the Webway), but… Read more »
On the torching of Prospero: Horus did this so that the most dangerous legions (in his eyes) would be taken out of action and it working pretty well.
On the box set of Prospero burns: Does anybody know if there will be sisters in the box as well?
In some ways Prospero worked out better for Horus than planned, while neither Legion was wiped out, the puppies suffered a bad blow and ended up stuck out in the sticks for most of the Heresy and missed out on the Siege of Terra and the Sons ended up siding with him, boosting his forces, so over all was a win for Horus.
I feel sorry for Magnus for everything he tried to do to aid the Emperor he still screwed up and then joined chaos. But I would have liked to see the pups and sons join battle against a common enemy.
That unknown warrior for Star Saga looks like he could be The Survivor from Dadzone, with some upgraded armour. He’s still breathing inside a sealed suite to not infect anyone, and the helmet hides his face so you can’t see his mutations.
