It’s the weekend!!
A weekend to knuckle down and finish a few part-painted models to clear them off the backlog. I could do a whole WAYPN thread by my own!
I never seem to finish anything – I seem to just reduce the amount of not-started stuff!
Happy Weekend! That’s great news with @oriskany, really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Absolutely, it’s great there is now going to be someone on board who can edit history (that’s what he meant right?) 🙂
“Edit” history? No, not really. There’s been enough of that with K47, Dust, WWX, etc. 😀 😀 😀
Or should I start editing history George Orwell 1984 style? 😀 “He who controls the past control the present, and who controls the present controls the future . . .”
Bwa-hahaha. 😀
Nice one, Jim. Feels like you’ve been part of the team for ages anyway, so nice to have it official 🙂
Most amazing battle of WW2.? I would be surprised if there not talking about Kursk. Might not be my choice but it is interesting
It might be the time a three-man Luftwaffe crew took everyone in Walmington church hall hostage…
This is the only thing in historical gaming that I have the models for (well, aside from the Luftwaffe crew that is…)
There’s Operation Market Garden which has its fair share of interesting set pieces …
“we’re going to be plotting out historical stuff that’s going to happen.” Sounds like either voodoo or you are planning some sort of coup that will be remembered for generations…
Great stuff with @oriskany coming on board, already looking forward to some more historical stuff.
As someone who fondly remembers such 2000AD strips as Rain Dogs, Drowned Earth looks like it will scratch all sorts of itches 🙂
Glad to hear it! Love Rain Dogs.
Did you get to Kingdom? When I started writing The Drowned Earth a friend of mine recommended it as worth a look for influences etc.
That’s the continuing adventures of Gene The Hack-man right? Great series. Dan Abnett and Richard Elson firing on all cylinders! They’ve built a fascinating world over the years, and I am continually (but pleasantly) surprised each time it returns for a new series adding further depth.
To be fair though, I firmly believe you could take (almost) any issue of 2000ad and find plenty of juicy material to inspire game design (speaking of, how has Nikolai Dante not gotten a tabletop or videogame?)….
That’s right, Gene the Hack-man, lol. Loved it. Completely barmy, but in the best possible way.
You’ve reminded me that I don’t own enough 2000AD, lol. Funnily enough, Judge Dredd never really caught me, but loved a bunch of the peripheral stuff.
Happy Weekend, well done @Oriskany on joining the team. No rest for the wicked.
Looking forward to seeing more updates from the gang at Adeptus.
Really like the look and feel of Drowned Earth. Some lovely sculpts there, great job.
Thank you! Worked really hard to get the best sculptors available to work on the miniatures. after all, the mood of a game is made or broken by the actual toys themselves!
Not to say the rest isn’t important as well of course, but I was determined to get them right. Actually, I was determined to get everything right, lol.
Thanks very much, @noyjatat – the less rest the better!
What does Mako say in the original Conan movie?
“Sleep? Ha! Time enough for sleep in the grave.”
James spent a couple of hours teaching an idiot how to paint at SteamCon last November. I became aware of The Drowned Earth immediately after that as a result of meeting him there. It looks fantastic. In fact, it’s the type of game which makes you realise that in terms of art direction and setting, there isn’t as much variety in our industry as there could be. It also appeals to my indie sensibilities also. Very much looking forward to this one.
James also does commission painting – https://www.facebook.com/yggdrasilpainting/?fref=ts
Ohhh, you were the idiot! :D.
Haha, not sure who you were but fear not, no idiots! Thanks for the plug- variety is the spice of life, right?
I got asked a while back if I thought there was room in the market place for “yet another skirmish game”. Answer is simple- there’s always room for something new and different. “Yet another”? Perhaps not, but if I didn’t think TDE was going to bring a bunch of new stuff to the table I’d never have gone all the way with it.
Thanks also for the plug :).
Been following The Drowned Earth for a while now. Good seeing them get some attention on BoW.
Has Warren lost a ton of weight or does that black shirt look reaaaalllllly slimming?
Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, @madgame , Warren has dropped something like 22+ kilos and still going strong. I met him again at the recent boot camp, and was like: “Pleased to see you again, Warren! Now where is the rest of you?” 😀
Great job Warren! As a bigger fellow myself I know how hard it is to lose weight.
Thanks guys lol
Yup im trying to stay disciplined!
Thank you! Great to be here – a landmark to be sure :).
Greatest military engagement?
Cool! Finally thought that it was Battle of Jutland time!
Then you said that it was WWII…
Oh… maybe some other time… bugger.
@chillreaper – Not to give too much away, but I think @warzan picked this based on a “coolness” factor (which it certainly has) as opposed to scale.
I’ll happily do an article or series on the Battle of Jutland if someone has photos of 60+ battleship and battle cruiser miniatures they can contribute!
I’m actually not kidding, if anyone can actually stage the Battle of Jutland on a table, or even a healthy part of it, PM me.
The Drowned Earth look like really interesting, i think i will follow this game to see what happen next. Really like it !
Thank you! Always eager for feedback. You can subscribe to the mailing list for a cheeky Kickstarter reminder here: http://tinyurl.com/gsn6wb3
I really want to read the fluff for Drowned Earth. Sounds really interesting.
I can’t wait to get it out of note form and in to the rulebook! However, you can check out a brief world description here: http://www.thedrownedearth.com/an-introduction-to-the-drowned-earth/
And a few blog articles:

You can also check out some fiction by following the “Tales of Ulaya” link in the top bar.
Jesus, what kind of third world internet speeds do you have in the UK?! I have a 100/100mbit line here in Sweden and in at least somewhat urban areas that’s not that uncommon. This won’t do lads, you must lead a revolution for faster internets! Get your pitch forks and load the trebuchet with old defunct modems and commence bombardment!.
Great to know more fabulous historical stuff with @oriskany is on the horizon 😎 😎 His series of articles are real highlights and reason enough for becoming a backstage member! Jim is a true asset to the team, well done BoW to finally getting him on board 🙂 ToH sounds indeed so simple and elegant that even my good self is confident to grasp the rules 😉 I’ll be definitely picking up the core box at Salute and in the meantime I’ve got good reason to paint all those WGF samurai plastics I bought back in the day! Same with… Read more »
Congratulations @oriskany on officially joining the team
Wow, thanks very much @suetoniuspaullinus and @jamjarst !
nice one.
Hey, didn’t you win a big prize, @zorg ? Congratulations! 😀 😀
thanks I missed it have to re-watch the vid.
Happy weekend!
Question, where did you guys get that Super Heavy transport/carryall Kittyhawk thing you used in “Warren Meets Mat”?
Test Of Honour, OH HELL YES, the cinematic slaughter of an absurd number of minions by a few elite Samurai is always fun.
Ninjas or Samurai? Nither, Warrior Monk 🙂
Shadespire looks very interesting I may just have to pick it up
The Drowned Earth, Gorilla Adventurer Archaeologist? Lizardman Indiana Joans? Sold! 😀 I now know what my nest big pledge on Kickstarter’s going to be. and something tells me I won’t be the only one 😉
Awesome show guys,
The miniatures industry definitely needs a Gorilla archaeologist model 😀
Don’t feel like you need to wait for the KS though- there are standees and the beta rulebook to download on the website right now!

…GI JOE SIGMA 6 DRAGONHAWK… https://www.amazon.com/GI-JOE-Sigma-6-DragonHawk/dp/B000EQGS8I
Ah, thank you, and also damn you, I now have that theme song stuck in my head, lol 😀
I have to get my Hands on the Drowned Earth Stuff… it looks really good.
Thank you! Do be sure to subscribe to our mailing list here: http://tinyurl.com/gsn6wb3
Drowned Earth looks like it’ll be a fun narrative game. Plus Archaeologists as a faction!
Who doesn’t want an Indiana Jones faction?! 😀
A Lao Che faction….. 😉
Oh and it’s Ninja, Hattori Hanzo FTW!
Congrats @oriskany on joining the BoW team! I’m really looking forward to all the new historical content.
Drowned Earth minies look cool. Incredible paint jobs for “demo” minies.
Thanks :D.
I may puke a kitten every time someone knocks one over at Salute, lol, but they’re there to do a job!
Just wait till you see the studio paint jobs though- I have a friend who makes my painting look like nursery school art class!
Thanks very much, @guillotine .
Drowned earth is looking really good, might have to have a look as those miniatures certainly look characterful!
Thank you! Loads of character is definitely what I was going for. Even if I do say so myself, they’re great models to paint too :).
Those Drowned Earth minis look scrumptious! 🙂
Thank you! Do you have a favourite?
Those drowned earth minis look great plus that poor dwarf loosing his gold both look like interesting games
For the love of god…… well my wallet…. which may as well be attributed with divinity as I am always praying to it that it has enough in the hobby section of it ….. please stop showing cool games on the weekenders …… Both Test of Honour (samurai by the way Justin) and Drowned Earth look fabulous … (*pssst please don’t stop I just said that to keep “The Wallet” happy)
Another great weekender. Thanks guys once again and I will see you tomorrow
Does the wallet wear a dress and get annoyed when you stay out playing games too late? :D.
…….. *looks from side to side* ………….. *says unconvincingly* ……..No …….. No of course not …………….. 😉
Great to see oriskaney join the group. I really like his work on the boot camp and the tanks rpg scenario.
Thanks, @mordiano . We’ll definitely be doing more of those tank RPGs soon. Perhaps another post-apocalyptic setting, perhaps something more historical. I was happily surprised in the response it got, and since then the amount of requests (sometimes bordering on demands) I’ve gotten for repeat runs of the concept.:D
