Yes! 50 min video on building a table. Best kind of vlog there is!
Looks great guys, can’t wait to have a game on it when I come home next year. The cliffs are fantastic Lloyd.
Thanks Sam, will get a game on it for sure.
@lloyd a static wand would probably work well over spunge for static grass, all you would need is a nylon rod, a drill, and a microfibre cloth. Put the rod in the drill, and grip the spinning rod in the cloth and rub up and down the length, do that for a 30 secs or so then waft the rod over the grass. Nylon rod: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NYLON-6-NYLON-66-ROUND-BARS-ROD-IN-NATURAL-BLACK-200MM-TO-600MM-LONG-LENGTHS-/201167179034?var=&hash=item2ed67f8d1a:m:m72CRfU7edRv-DK4Pittsjw For sealing the foam before you put pva on, how about some masonary paint like this: http://www.diy.com/departments/colours-pebble-grey-smooth-masonry-paint-50ml-tester-pot/184096_BQ.prd you could potentially use the black version of that as your primer on the sponge… Is designed… Read more »
or what about painting dilute copydex down to seal it…
@nakchak cool will get a look see.
Bloody Fighting, i mean Happy Gaming.
On one BRILLIANT table, Lloyd very very nice idea. Even my 5 and 7 year old gran kids enjoyed making the small rocks.
This one looks Dam Good too.
?? Think you could do a hill side for trains with that to run though ??
Anyway to All a BIG WOW and well dun team.
“Think you could do a hill side for trains with that to run though”
One word, YESSSSS! 🙂
Good to know, should be so light to move around to. I Really REALLY think your on to something here. Kids loved the ripping, loved the slapping the black paint on, bit hard when putting grey over the top but after final touches then they almost over greened it, using most of my flock lol, well guess that last coffee and toilet break cost me the most letting them finish the job. But have to say they loved it and we’ve played with them with Infinity and the lads at the club said let them make more. Trains… So guess… Read more »
tunnels… annother thing that occurs to me is if you were to mix foams it would be easy to make a removable top from say drywall foam or styrene foam, then have a bitching cave/mine complex underneath, or just leave the top off to have a canyon/ravine/gorge, might have to pop down the road to cheddar gorge and have a look for some inspiration
Love the cliffs! I am super interested if anyone has any ideas as to a way to fill ALL the bubble holes on the foam cliffs? I like the look of the material for sculpting the cliffs but I am not a fan of the bubble holes after, I was intrigued by the talcum powder idea, just wondering if anyone else had any ideas they had put into practice? I think the small rocks in the hobby lab work because they are easily packed away, the cliff is too big to squash so I feel like if I made one,… Read more »
That’s not to say I think it looks bad! it looks amazing! haha
Just a little thing on that (from our own experience) big stuff gets damaged easily. I’m very taken with this approach as it’s basically indestructible, no chips, dents, knocks or scrapes 🙂
any polyurethane based paint should have a sealing effect, and a few coats should fill most of the larger holes, garage floor paint, or exterior sealing paint
A silicon calk probably could seal everything if you have the time.
The cliffs are amazing, I wish I had more room to store one.
great VLOG as always have you tried sealing the top with plain emulsion? you can have it cheaply mixed in any colour sprinkle it with fine sand to seal the sponge holes and aid drying time and the pva will bond nicely to it with the static grass
@lloyd I love those cliffs – great work! Now to work out how to apply that myself to something.
Awesome terrain vlog.
The energy drink interstitial was a bit… weird.
But I’m even more tempted to try the foam rocks now. If only I had more room to store such a cliff face. Perhaps there’s still some room on the ceiling.
store in plain sight, stuff into pillow case, and use as a cushion on the sofa 😉
im half tempted to do that just as a wind up to the mrs…..
“look, ive taken in interest in soft furnishings :P”
Superb vlog loved every second, my thoughts to seal would be possibly a textured masonry paint which I believe is available in a variety of colours and with a texture it would add more detail for the dry brushing.
Alright lads? Where did you boys get the wallpaper from? Just so I can make sure I get the same stuff
B&Q in the uk
Cheers Lloyd
That was very informative. It makes me want to attempt something similar
Well, I’d love to think that I could one day replicate this but I doubt it. Thanks for the demo little things like this build skills.
Nice work all in particular Lloyd
Woohoo, Wrath of Kings coverage at last! 😉
Fantastic table n’all you guys- looking forward to seeing it in action…
Also, I hope you guys film the Dark Age rematch…
the table looks great and i’m looking forward to the wrath of kings coverage.
Lloyd displaying great technique plucking.
Polish energy drink , no way that’s not got vodka in it.
I cant wait for some Wrath of Kings goodness
Ok. Now I really need to get my hands on that stuff! What the hell do you call that big foamy-spongy slab of awesomeness!?
A big cliff is exactly what I’m trying to do for my gaming table!
Upholstery foam, probably 4″ or 6″ firm foam, its worth ringing around your local upholstery supply places to see if they have any offcuts you can get for a hefty discount as its quite pricey stuff to buy in sheet form
Really stunning work, as always, folks! Those sponge cliffs in particular look incredible. The hobby lab episode with them passed me by but after seeing this I’m going to have to dig it out and take a crack at it.
Sponge cliffs would be perfect for the office because I can stuff them in a cupboard and know I’m not going to return to a powdered mess!
I think maybe a stay tacky adhesive would work better for flocking the foam over a large area.
For sealing the foam, you can use something like Rosco’s Flexbond. At least it is available in the USA http://www.rosco.com/scenic/flexbond.cfm
It is made specifically for fabrics, plastics, foams and wood. Rosco FlexBond dries to a clear, hard, yet pliable coating that does not suffer from the “tackiness” FlexBond remains extremely pliable and strong even as the materials bend and deform. Rosco FlexBond is water- based with little fume.
It is used by Cosplay actors making uniforms and even Hollywood set creators.
looks great can’t wait to see the WoK coverage, may encourage me to break my own out some Sunday.
The cliff is spectacular, just what I was talking about for Rorke’s drift, did you pick it up locally in dunelm or elsewhere?
We get text coupons from fabric stores all the time. I’m picturing some large cliff and buttes for our Warhammer tables at the store!
Lloyd – it would be awesome to see floating islands (Avatar style) using your foam technique. Great video. Top notch work as usual. My BOW subscription is the totally worth the few bucks it costs.
Thanks a lot for logging all of this. That sponge worked out amazingly well.
Great stuff, have to try it out when time allow it
