The Battle Systems Urban Apocalypse Terrain Kickstarter Begins!
September 18, 2015 by brennon
Battle Systems' latest Kickstarter campaign to fund a set of Urban Apocalypse Terrain has no begun. If you're looking for some terrain to fight over during a zombie invasion, post-nuclear war or Gotham night then this could be perfect for your gaming table...
The Pledge
This campaign is based around one central pledge that gives you a whole City Block packed with terrain. Here we have it all assembled and looking awesome with a range of different buildings, a road map and of course some scatter terrain to make it look abandoned...
As you can see you get quite a lot within that one pledge. I would have thought that the regular pledge for this wouldn't have come with so much elevation but the different levels are all part of this. It also includes the terrain you see inside the buildings like tables, chairs, office supplies and more.
The guys at Battle Systems have even provided backers with a suggestion on how to pack all of this away...
"We recommend storing your terrain in sturdy plastic containers. We use nine litre containers that measure L 35cm x W 21cm x H 14cm. Please note that we do not provide containers."
You can find a full run down of the components HERE.
Examples
If you'd like to see a few more close-ups of the battlefield that you'll be fighting over then this gives you a good idea of some of its uses.
I personally love the idea of either using this for some kind of 'Last Of Us' style scenario where you're trying to get from building to building without too much conflict and a load of stealth.
You could also do full on Zombie Mode from Call of Duty where you have to run and gun around the place killing the undead and boarding up windows.
One use that I think was particularly good was for the likes of the Batman Miniatures Game. The buildings should work well for its 35mm scale as well as 28mm and you could easily see Batman hanging out here at night - a veritable Arkham city block.
Stretch Goals & Add-Ons
The first Stretch Goal has already been lain out and it gives you extra wall sections which you can use to make more rooms with your main pledge package.
Suddenly you can start to make your city block a bit more claustrophobic. With additional walls allowing for more rooms you suddenly produce more bottlenecks for your models to fight over. As you can see above this is Free when unlocked and is added to your pledge automatically.
As well as that there are Add-Ons which gives you an additional Gaming Mat which is used as the basis for the terrain.
With that you could add another batch of terrain on top of it and of course as the campaign goes on I imagine you're going to have access to more buildings allowing you to create larger areas of the city.
Will you be pledging for this?

Looks pretty smart,
Funded within the 1st half hour! I’m in already 🙂
hmm, didn’t grab my attention when I first heard about it a little while back, but having got a good way through Team Yankee (damn you @oriskany!! you’ve launched me into another fascination haha) I can’t help but think how awesome it would be to play out some alternate history Bolt Action games on this terrain – GI’s and Soviet ground troops battling it out block by block in a once sleepy American suburb. Looking good lads! Will keep my eye on this 🙂
nice, very sturdy looking as well.
A well thought out product, Good Luck, not that you guys need it!
looks nice but 2 x2 is a weird measure, 4×3 or 3×3 would be better almost 300 pound for a 4×4 is a lot… maybe i’ll go for 2x cityblock and 2 extra mats…
£300 IS a lot of money but you get a lot of stuff for it. I agree that they really need to do a 3×3 mat. They say it may be doable, depending on money pledged.
THIS-LOOKS awesome! I am so excited! Like Relentless excited! OMG>.. and winter’s coming, perfect time to get stuck inside!
Already in on this, it will be another awesome ride!
Sooo Nice!
Very good job, and a very well done video! ^_^
love the look of this
this train will rule for Batman
Agree on the 3×3 mat, would work well with a single set at low level. There are plenty of generic derelict/city mats out there if they don’t o one.
Let’s think of suitable games to justify this…
– Batman
– Mercs TT
– Necromunda
– Infinity (in derelict zone? pushing it a bit I know)
…
Just spent my pocket money!
I’m soo torn on this. If they offer up the furniture as an add on I’m definitely getting some of that. It’s just the walls I’m still torn on, and specifically the windows. The building look cool, like really cool but the majority of the windows are intact and as it’s card you can’t see through them. Don’t know if I’m the only person who cares about this (or has thought about this) but the joy of having really congested scenery like this is getting down to mini level and getting in their view. And this is going to be… Read more »
Joerugby – don’t know if you know, but you won’t be able to buy any addons with out getting at least one city block. BS have always worked this way due to costs.
That’s a shame
Looks like nothing for me then until retail if their selling the furniture separate.
Unless I give in to shiney syndrome during the campaign
I don’t need this… But I really want it. I’ll be watching with interest!
This is gorgeous, and I’d love to use it for Warzone or many other skirmish type games I enjoy.
But geez it’s so expensive. 300 pounds just to get a small 4×4.
They’ve really priced this one out of realistic reach.
