Secret Weapon’s Latest Seasonal Base Covering
February 7, 2012 by dracs
Secret Weapon have previewed their latest scenic products, a selection of leaf litter to suit all seasons.
This will look great on bases and dioramas and will really help to give the sense of your minis moving through a forest.
Will any of you make use of this stuff?
Hmmm can you imagine if customs opened you mail with this in!
Just don’t mention it’s to feed your plasticrack habit…
For 60ml at 4.99 bucks, I wonder how it compares with the basecrafts product at £1.20 for 50ml. Hey guys about about a BASE OFF?
Yeah but shipping for the US is expensive compared to Secret Weapon which is 3 dollars on any order under 30 bucks.
In the case of the leaves we dont fill the pots to the full 50ml level because the material is quite expensive, so the price is actually comparable with the SWM range.
I actually talk regularly with Justin at SWM about product ideas and material sources, in fact i got a box of SWM goodies this morning and their quality as always is stunning.
With one of us in Europe and one in the states we arent really in direct competition, less than 10% of my orders leave europe.
Yeah, what he said! 🙂
Basecrafts also has the advantage of doing almost exclusively direct sales — while I need to account for the retailer and distributor discount in all of my pricing. That generally means I need to be able to turn a profit on the labor and materials at 40% of the MSRP. It ain’t easy!
I have yet to use such basing details. Has anyone used it before?
Yes mate I use the Plusmodel 1/35th Oak leaves (extra colours) range on my bases. They are very expensive for what you get (£4.99 a tub – and the tubs are verrrry small!) but you can actually see mottling and colour changes on the leaves as well as the vein running through them, rather than just leaf shaped coloured paper that other manufacturers sell.
Those are great pieces – and we’re working on high detail printed, laser cut paper leaves. The price won’t be any better, as laser cutting that many tiny pieces is slow and expensive work.
Whether you do natural, brass or printed scenics is a matter of preference and application and there are a LOT of great products out there.
They are perfect for my woodies!
You might get a rash if you do that 😉
