ModelMates have opened up their new website which means you can get a hold of their awesome weathering materials with decidedly less hassle. Normally the opening of a webstore wouldn't catch our eye but ModelMates has meant that we've taken a whole new approach to making our massive wargaming tables and most of their products have been of great use!

The first thing that got our attention when it came to ModelMates were things like their Rust Effect and Snow Effect products that age and add character to wargaming boards and miniatures. Back when we ran Hobby Lab at Salute we saw some of these products and had a play around with them, it was pretty insane how easily you could make something look old or battle-worn.

There's also some great stuff for weathering up your bigger buildings and giving them a real aged look. Above you can see two examples of that where they've used the sprays to give a worn and rain streaked effect to the ruin as well as spray on moss (yes, spray on moss!) to give things and overgrown feeling.

Considering where we're going with Hobby Lab and both Warren and Lloyd's obsession with terrain it's not hard to see why we like seeing products like this pop up. Admittedly you could probably fill in your brick joins with paint but the fact is that these products give it a more lifelike appearance on the tabletop.

This also shows off a table in more detail where the weathering sprays have been used on the buildings and bridge to give it a wartorn feeling. The building itself is very impressive with a blasted and burnt out look to it and plenty of aging too. This was a project by Richard Hale and you can see more of it HERE.

Essentially what we're saying here is that if you like the look of this stuff and fancy making your own board or miniatures look weathered and effectively, realistic, then check out the ModelMates website and see what you think.
