Mantic Get Ready To Kickstart Sci-Fi Terrain In TerrainCrate 3
November 18, 2022 by brennon
Dive into more from the TerrainCrate range from Mantic Games as they look to come to Kickstarter soon with a new host of options. This time around, they are going down the route of polishing the Sci-Fi genre with effective-looking alien trees and smashed-up ruins.
TerrainCrate 3 Kickstarter // Mantic Games
The first focus of the campaign is to bring to the tabletop some properly weird and wonderful trees that would be great to see on the tabletop in a Sci-Fi game. So, you are able to pick up a whole host of interesting bits and pieces for making modular Sci-Fi trees.

What's quite nice about the terrain is that a range of the pieces come with a base followed by toppers that can be plugged in to make weird and wonderful flora from a million different alien worlds. You could also break it up and turn the different "trees" into making a collection of scatter terrain for your tabletops.

As you can see, there are also a neat array of different terrain elements that are going to be added to the range to make it pop all the more. I love the strange alien triangle portal and the other alien artefacts that you really, really shouldn't have touched.

Some additional core terrain elements are also getting worked into the mix including some proper ruins. I like that these have the feel of the old Gothic Ruins around them from Games Workshop but with a neat Mantic twist.

Terrain templates and more are also going to be coming to the Kickstarter allowing you to place some interesting builds on the tabletop in intriguing ways. As a whole, this seems like a pretty darn awesome idea and I can't wait to see what Mantic do when the campaign rolls around.
Watch out for it arriving on Kickstarter imminently!

I love Mantic, but I don’t know if very many people were clamoring for goofy, crazy-colored scifi trees. Maybe I’m wrong, but this does nothing for me.
I think it unlocks a whole other sort of battlefield look that you don’t really see. It is a gift for something like Star Wars. Google the Star Wars planet Felucia, this is very much it.
that’s how I’m looking at it
Stargrave solo has a jungle environment that would work with the plants — but I dunno if I’d pay that much for such specific terrain.
The battlefields are useful for futuristic war, and some of the terrain for modern. But, then, I’d think that outside ‘burb ruins for zombie or post-apocalypse would be more versatile, though Mantic already has such terrain.

Going to be PERFECT for those who play “Beyond the Gates of Antares”, we’re in to raiding aquarium shops for brightly coloured plastic plants (the more vibrantly coloured the better). We even posts pics of our most visually offensive finds on the Facebook page for the game. We’re a small bunch but these at least are going to probably have most of use pledging for it.
Yay triffids an other dangerous plants? the defence walls look great too.
An you can’t beat a Ronnie rant about his new plans
Those are really nice.
I think it’s a really interesting area to offer product for. And it’s the kind of product that appeals to a wider audience than just tabletop wargames (e.g. scale modeling, RPG etc) so should be a great investment for the company.
Looks like it’s been generating a good deal of excitement online and talking to people IRL.
Ronnie has been saying it’s going to offer great value boxes.
