Explore Kromlech’s Ace New Fantasy Realms Terrain Range

Kromlech are bloomin' masters when it comes to terrain and their new range, Fantasy Realms, features a whole host of brilliant new kits that are great for 28mm to 32mm wargames. The first wave of releases covers Landscapes Of The Empire.

The range features a pretty impressive series of new easy-to-build modular Fantasy terrain kits which all come with playable interiors. All of the kits come in MDF and unpainted but have that over-the-top Fantasy look and feel that should suit a lot of different settings.

Each terrain piece has been designed so they are fairly quick and easy to put together. The core structure goes together nicely and easily with the facades and extra elements stuck to the outside of the shell. Most of the pieces also come with those awesome Fantasy-style roofs which are made out of different layers stuck over the top of each other.

There are a lot of different designs for you to choose from, all with that Medieval European aesthetic that would fit a mixture of different wargames. These would match well with Warhammer Fantasy and the Old World and maybe even Mordheim if you decided to go with a different paint scheme.

I also think that this particular colour scheme used on the studio terrain makes them feel perfect for games like Moonstone or Burrows & Badgers. You could imagine them popping up in a lot of whimsical Fantasy games.
Burgher's House // Kromlech
As mentioned, these different terrain pieces also come with playable interiors and ways to remove the doors, add stairs and more in order to make them good for skirmish games as well as mass battle affairs.
Windmill // Kromlech
The modular nature of the builds also means that you might find yourself doing a bit of mixing and matching between the different kits. I'm not sure how intensive that modular element is currently by looking at the range but it could be fun to do some experiments.
Watermill // Kromlech
I quite liked the two terrain sets above (Windmill and Watermill). They look great for fun, objective-focused adventures. Guards Of Traitor's Toll is also on the horizon from Grey For Now Games and whilst Sarissa already caters for the game with their own terrain range, these wouldn't be a bad fit either!
Guard Tower // Kromlech
As well as individual buildings for smaller tabletops, Kromlech also offer a few larger sets which also come with scatter terrain to tell your stories on the tabletop. The Fortified Inn looks like a great place to hole up for the night as the dead stalk the lands.

You've also got the Lowland Village which seems like the perfect setting for a myriad of first scenarios in different games. I sense some Rangers Of Shadow Deep could be played around these buildings.

You can also get River Bridges from the new collection which are a fantastic addition to any table and enable you to play around with scenarios in different ways, creating natural choke points.
River Bridge // Kromlech
You can get the Small River Bridge and a full one with additional hump sections in the middle. You can also make really bloody big bridges if you like as each section is available separately.
All of this comes together to create another fun set of terrain from Kromlech for those looking to make fun tabletops. I hope that we see more from the Fantasy Realms collection that focuses on different classic Fantasy tropes!

those look really fancy
At first viewing I thought this would be perfect for new terrain plans. However on looking closer they are MDF kits. If these are actually painted up photos of the kits they did an amazing job sadly not one I would like be able to produce. I dont have a problem with the kits being MDF but they are a little pricey. The clear knock version of the Games workshop Fortified Inn is nearly as expensive as buying the real one at GW. I do like the Kromlech buildings I have the Frostgrave ones I am just not sure if… Read more »
@redscope agreed on the presentation part: the painting techniques Kromlech went with would be indeed hard to reproduce for the average hobbyist.
This would result in, most people’s minds, a sub-standard product for the table.
I airbrush, can do advanced level painting, and these impress me. Would I do this to MDF? Probably not. It’s just not worth it for a material that I would want to be resin or plastic.
Am I wrong?
The bridge is nice.
That looks really good, I definitely want to give them a go when I have the funds.
I think they would look really good for the Multi Award Winning Moonstone.
It does suck that they don’t show how they look unpainted like they do with all their other kits.
So … I ordered a few and will be exploring them in more detail when I get them.
I’m hoping to use them as inspiration for more, because scratch building is something I’d love to do as well and having a reference will help.
