Idyllwild Add Long House & Hovel To Their Dark Age Outpost
September 22, 2015 by brennon
Idyllwild have added some larger structures to the inside of their Dark Age Outpost, a Hovel and Long House. The campaign has fourteen days left on it and if they reach their next stretch goal they will be unlocking them as part of the available add-ons...
As you can see by the prototype work above it looks like it's going to be easy to assemble in the same style as the rest of the Outpost. Thankfully the roof is also removable which is exactly what you need when you're doing some Dark Age skirmishing.
Painted Outpost
As well as the look ahead they have also painted up some of the pieces of terrain to show what they'd look like once you're done assembling it all...
The big sturdy gate is looking great and it's neat when it opens up. I did think that the whole structure stood a little higher than this but it looks like it would be great as a quick and easy structure to erect on the tabletop for your warbands.
You can see more of the terrain pieces here with the palisade wall sections. With a quick drybrushed layer or two, a little touch up on the top, and a wash over the top of it you'd be done.
I'd also be tempted to use some of the textured basing paints from Games Workshop, like their mud, to make it mix into the tabletop a little more.
What do you think of it now it's painted?

I backed this, amidst protest from my missus, to provide a marching fort for one or two of my fantasy armies. Saves me a ton of time, and I love the details. The residential sergeant major has now warmed to the fort idea, as the pieces can double as western frontier, or even civil war defensive works.
nice.
I know this will be good with Burrows & Badgers & the Freelancer sets. Oh to Red Wall. 😀
