Dungeons & Lasers: Plastic Tabletop Scenery Kickstarter Live!
August 14, 2019 by brennon
The Dungeons & Lasers Kickstarter is now live from the folks at Archon Studio meaning that you can dive in and get your hands on all of their awesome plastic terrain which enables you to build all sorts of interesting Sci-Fi and Fantasy tabletops.
Check Out The Kickstarter Here
The campaign focuses on a set of plastic sprues which hold loads of different terrain tiles which you plug together in order to craft them into cool looking dungeons that your fantasy adventurers can delve down into. Or, maybe you want to craft Sci-Fi facilities where your intrepid group of explorers are facing down an alien menace?
Check out the various pledges available to you when you go to back the project.
So, as you can see they have managed to band together a lot of different options into smaller and larger pledge options, dependant on the kind of tabletops you want to build. With a lot of people getting back into their roleplaying games and also skirmish games like Necromunda and Kill Team, the options here from Archon feel like a good shout for creating quick and easy tabletops.
Features & Assembly Instructions
Archon has already been showing off some of the interesting things you can do with the terrain as you'll see below...
...and also provided folks with a helpful little instructional segment on how to put it all together. I have talked a lot about wargaming LEGO and I think that what we have here from Archon is very much that!
It seems like a fun system to play around with and once you've painted up all the pieces in the same design you'll have a lot of fun moving dungeons around as you continue building on your campaign. I think this, plus some battle mats and such from other companies could make for a good time in a can as Gerry would say.
If you're interested in more on the terrain Warren talked about it on a previous Weekender...
...where he discusses what he has been doing with it. If you'd prefer to go beyond the terrain though they do already have some fun additions to the mix like these animals!
If you're looking for some interesting animal adventurers to throw into the mix then you have some neat options here from Archon too. Maybe they could be cool animal companions that were once your humanoid friends until a strange wizard turned them all into pooches and cats?

That funded quickly. So tempted to jump in for a 3D Space Hulk project.
I think that could get expensive fast. One 99USD set amounts to 43 tiles if I read the KS correct. How many tiles do you need for the biggest Space Hulk map in the box? I’m guessing three to four sets. That’s a lot of cash 😉
But yeah, they look cool.
Yeah, the price is cock blocking my idea. But perhaps it would be more fun doing it the old school way of card and filler!
Or use 5mm sheets of foam core.
There’s a company I can’t remember the name of that produces moulds for either resin, or plaster casting (possibly both) that you do yourself. If you’re doing a lot of stuff that may be a cheaper option.
Are you thinking about Hirst Arts?
Or Linka
Hirst Arts sounds right.
I will never do business with this company.
Could you please elaborate? I was thinking on backing but now…
They have a patchy record on KS under the company name Prodos. I will never support a company that has treated gamers badly in the past, and then conveniently appears under a new name. That OTT support people like this is a real shame. But as ever, shiny plastic and money talks.
A few simple questions for you mate. 1) Are you personally owed anything from that kickstarter? (If so PM me directly and I will try to help in every way I can, just like we have with others over the last few years) 2) Do you know anyone personally who’s owed anything? (Because over the last 12 months or so I keep hearing about ‘people owed items’ but not a single person has taken up my offers of help or reached out to me, all I seem to get is it’s a ‘friend of a friend’ 3) AVP and Prodos… Read more »
Hell will have frozen over before I give them a penny. This is the only way we can police Kickstarter and punish the bad companies. As consumers we get to vote with our money. Same as I chose never to spend money with a lot of other companies who have wronged consumers in the past, even when I was not personally out of pocket.

So are there still AvP backers who haven’t been compensated yet?
Archon, formerly Prodos, has a history of random customer service. You give ’em your money, you usually get what you paid for. If you don’t, your emails to customer service either result in what you paid for or no response whatsoever. Their worst behavior was during their Aliens vs. Predator KS, which funded five years ago, and still not all backers have received what they pledged for or equivalent.

Hi Warzan, I’ve followed Prodos / Archon through Dakka, and, myself, with BGG, was involved in finding Archon’s identity when they refused to reveal themselves through their so-called “non-disclosure agreement” in a LOAD KS. To be frank, Jared’s behavior and poor reviews of their games start off their games, for myself, as a yellow flag, and my experience with KS is that funded companies rarely change their behavior. (Certainly their Space Crusade attempt, which obviously tried to capitalize on Games Workshop’s Space Crusade game didn’t help.) For myself, I do not use KS to support companies that mistreat their backers… Read more »
Yep. I don’t have to have personally lost out to decide NEVER to support a company with such dubious ethics. As consumers we have a choice to not support these people and spend our money with the good guys.
Kickstarter such as hell don’t care about consumers (and that is exactly what we are, not investors, despite the legal wriggling they do to deny us our legal consumer rights).
If we carry on throwing money at these people then we lose the only means we have to policing Kickstarter.
Other people might not feel the same.
great looking terrain for campaigns.
Problem is (at this price point), is that you could buy a cheap SLA printer for a couple of hundred quid. Granted it would probably take you six months to print it all out (plus the cost of the materials and electric bill), but a foam core base with SLA printed “gubbins” to stick to the walls and it becomes more feasible. It’s just too pricey for what it is now we have alternatives like 3D printing.
Is this the same company that gave OTT that mountain of plastic to build the 40K table? If so, maybe we are subsiding that act of largesse.
You have a point about how long it will take to 3D print, but KS tend to take 1-2 years and are usually late, so 3D print would probably be quicker 🙂
Having spent some time with both approaches, don’t underestimate the length of time these things would take to print at a decent quality. We tend to print at 0.02 layer heights to keep print times reasonable and a bed of say 5 or 6 of these tiles may take about 16 hours or so to print (trying to give estimates is never easy) To get even close to the detail and finish of the injection moulded plastic we’d have to go to a layer height of 0.012 which would effectively double the printing time. (and again to match the quality… Read more »
Hi Warren, Thanks for your offer to help with missing rewards. 1) I have yet to receive the Archon Salute 2019 prize I won in April (https://www.beastsofwar.com/eventslist/prize-center) despite properly and promptly filling in the prize claim form. I even followed up with Justin a second time in July and he contacted Archon again. Still nothing. Any help is appreciated. FWIW I also eagerly backed Archon’s RECENT Chronicle X Kickstarter, which aggressively and confidently promised on-time fulfillment by September 2018 BUT failed. Now, almost a year late, it has only just started to ship the base game with no ETA for… Read more »
