Death & Malign Portents Arrive This Week For Age Of Sigmar
January 29, 2018 by brennon
Death comes to the world of Age Of Sigmar this weekend with pre-orders going up for both Malign Portents and Legions Of Nagash thanks to Games Workshop. A fell wind blows through the Mortal Realms as a new campaign beckons...
As many will know by now, Malign Portents pushes forward the narrative within Age Of Sigmar. The time of Sigmar may be at an end as Nagash seeks to bring his legions to bear against the other Grand Alliances. Meanwhile, other mighty heroes also gather, each with their own portents to follow.
You'll be able to get embroiled in a new global campaign for Age Of Sigmar and find yourself drawn not only into the narrative but a wealth of new options for all of the different forces involved.
Malign Accessories
Additionally, you can also get your hands on some bits and bobs to add that deathly glow to your tabletop including the likes of Dice...
...and a selection of cards which will help you keep track of in-game changes that you'll be facing and drawing on for additional power.
Cards are always helpful I've found, giving you an easy way to keep track of everything that's going on. The dice also look lovely, especially the design that represents the six. I think I'd pick those up to use beyond Age Of Sigmar, nevermind just for this game.
Legions Of Nagash
The new Battletome that makes its way to the tabletop is Legions of Nagash which gives you a wealth of new options and build options for your death forces.
More synergies will be bought into play and depending on the Mortarch that you choose when you're building your army, you'll find yourself opening up a wealth of new options too. One cool army creation titbit from them over on the blog was that there are hordes of flaming skeletons inhabiting the realm of Aqshy (Fire)!
Returning Terrain
You will also be able to get your hands on an old terrain piece from Games Workshop which is now known as Warscryer Citadel.
This larger piece certainly benefits from the skirmishing nature of Age Of Sigmar, allowing you to move up onto those top rafters and walkways to do battle in heroic struggles. Imagine using this in Age Of Sigmar Skirmish and having your heroes fighting to either preserve the library of knowledge within or burn it down.
Are you going to be diving headfirst into death in February?

So… stupid question, why would Nagash need a battletome for his legions when all the fluff I read says all forces of Death are his legions?
Next stupid question; what are the odds Malign Portents will end with Chaos and Sigmarines working together against Nagash, because he’s that much of a smeghead?
Nagash is the god of death of the setting, and rules over all the Undead, but the army structure changes based upon what type of Undead force you are fielding. So, a dedicated Soulblight army would have different alignment special rules, abilities, artefacts and the like compared to a dedicated Nighthaunt Army. There also seem to be layers to the kind of unit groupings that get special rules in the book, so a pure Soulblght army is also different from a Legion of Shadow or Legion of Blood army, despite the fact that both those armies are lead by Vampires… Read more »
Like the way order have sub factions, mixed order, and free cities to pick and choose from with all different styles.
Variety is the name of the game.
There are rules for six sub factions tailored to specific forces. So, each army lead by a Mortarch and their different Modus Operandi. As well as… a Vampire controlled army and a Nighthaunt (ghost) army as well as Nagash’s own personal army. Different ways to play and mix it up.
It is possible. We don’t know what will happen til it happens. I’d prefer Ironjaws and Stormcast though!
I’d prefer Orcs and Sigmarines myself, especially since reading Fury of Gork:
“For the Orruks, there was no difference between an enemy or a friend. A friend was just an enemy you weren’t fighting at the moment, and an enemy was just a friend who was trying to kill you.”
I just think it’d be hilarious if Nagash’s dickery got to the point where mortal enemies stopped fighting long enough to go after him for being THAT annoying.
Am looking forward to the Malign Portents book , I have been enjoying what they are doing on the Malign Portents website ..(Yes I am a simple soul really )
The following was released yesterday about the various factions and their motivation in the coming conflict …. No mention of Slinky McElfington and her girls, but the rest quite appealled to me. here is a share;

@brianfowler713 He might be the god of the dead, but if he keeps trolling everyone, then eventually comeuppance happens.
@beardragon14 have better self worth. Enjoy what you enjoy, don’t think it is a guilty pleasure because one portion of the fanbase are attached to what was and can’t move on. Yeah that was a good read.
@mage as I have said numerous times I really do like the setting of AoS it takes me back to the magical time when I used to play D&D Planescape obsessively (ahh the frivolities of youth) the more they deveopl it the stronger my attraction to it. Even keen to see the Brides of Khaine stuff as my regular sparring parnter is an elf/aelf/eldar player and I will be facing it.
Looking forward to the new death stuff coming out. I have just started building up a small path to glory army to start preparing (working out schemes) for the global campaign.
I am hopeful that the new battletome will help improve deaths performance within their current miniature range.
Given this sneak preview this morning

I’d say there is a fair chance of death’s performance improving …… sheesh
Liking the look of this, AoS story taking a darker turn from the looks of it.
Also on the GW website it mentions that the Malign Portents book will also contain an expansion/update for AoS Skirmish.
Is it just me or is this very convenient they are out when a blood super moon is???
