Craft A Ruined City With Dark Ops’ Iceheim Portals
April 20, 2016 by brennon
Dark Ops have been creating some nice piece of terrain for a while now and one set that caught my eye lately was their Iceheim Portal Set which gives you an array of archways for use in your ruined cities...
You can see the set here which features six of these archways. While they might appear to be good when used as simple doors I think these are just asking for some kind of magical makeover.
I would see about adding some interesting shimmering portals into these gates so that you could use them as a way of zipping around the battlefield. You could then have a random roll meaning that you might end up in an entirely different part of the tabletop than you intended.
I have no idea how you'd go about creating something like a shimmering gate here but maybe you could use a technique similar to how rivers are created where you work out the dimensions and then just slot the portal into the gate after the fact?
Let me know your thoughts below...

Lovely stuff, seems geared towards frostgrave if u ask me but well done. Also there tileset for the mantic dungeon crawler makes me drool like a donkey!
I want them now. They look great!
These look great, and I like the price as well!
I saw them at Salute they look great. But it’s their 10mm buildings I really want for Dropzone, they look amazing!
I prefer to build this sort of thing, but they do look quite nice!
Dark ops make good solid terrain at a very reasonable price. Well worth checking out the rest of their Iceheim range and their Dropzone stuff.
Would the green portal piece from the Necron monolith fit into the openings?
very nice.
