4Ground’s Wild West Terrain
July 13, 2018 by dignity
Today I'm joined with Cad to check out 4Ground's newest addition to their range, the Wild West Terrain kit.
While this is named specifically for Wild West, I can see this being used for a variety of games such as Saga, Wild West Exodus and even Frostgrave perhaps. Plus you could win this fantastic little bundle by commenting who the Voodoo Baron from Louisiana was for your chance to win!
What would you play on this terrain?

The Name of the Voodoo witch doctor in English is Baron Saturday or Baron Samedi in french
Barron Samedi?
I’d definitely use this for Blood and plunder!
Baron Samedi
Ironic thing is Baron Samedi was the guardian of cemetery’s that protected the dead from being turned into zombies by those pesky, human magik users.
The spirit of jazz
he is also a terrific Bond villain and children’s party entertainer
“I’m gonna creep inside you like a warm kitten” Enough to scare anyone!
Baron Zamedi/Samedi….Think voodoo dude from that bond film was based on him? Anywho, lovely 4Ground stuff as always!
Lovely piece of kit. I remember making a fort for my Britains cowboys and indians as a kid. My efforts out of lollipop sticks weren’t bad, but this looks somewhat more awesome!
Baron Samedi.
I would so play Fallout on this.
Baron Samedi is the fella.
I’m looking at getting this terrain range, then using Dracula’s America rule set to do a game based on red dead redemption.
Awesome looking stuff again from 4ground, I do like this little fort, reminds me of an old playmobile fort I had when I was young. Very ‘dances with wolves’.
I’d use this in a few games, namely the games i have with my boys in the american civil war with sharp practice but also I think it would be good for burrows and badgers, wild west exodus with some add ons, I’d probably also have my viking forces attack it in saga.
He Voodoo chap is Baron Samedi
Baron Samedi.
The Old West range from 4Ground is brilliant. The fort is a nice addition, a little bit different from the classic wild west town set up.
And good to hear Cad has backed B&P. We can expect some themed terrain 😉
Baron Samedi
Baron Samedi. The second best Bond villian after Jaws.
Frostgrave! A bit of snow around that would look splendid, and a good stockade is always fun to storm!
Baron Samedi is the name also it is a fine Spiced Rum?
Baron Samedi
This would work well with some 1650 era new settlers in America as well
Baron Samedi….I Think I would It in this in This is not a test or even age of sigmar
Baron samedi.
I think this is a super versatile kit. It could be fantasy, like a Rohan fort. It could do well with black powder in my American revolution games. I could use it for walking dead a la hilltop. You might even be able to swing it into Star Wars. It makes it much easier to buy a kit if I could use it in just about anything.
Baron Samedi. Voodoo Loa, though, not a witch doctor as such…though mileage varies if you’re talking about the mythology of a particular game system 🙂
Geez…I ‘well, actually’ed a thread on BoW…I have waaaaaaaay too much time on my hands.
BARON SAMEDI shouted in the fiercest caps lock!
An excellent range for ACX, WWX, post apocalypse all sorts a very versatile bit of kit
ACW even, god damn too much rum hic
Baron Samedi. I think this would also be great for a bunch of rpg
ohhhhh “Dead Man’s Hand” is one of my top fav games!
This fort would work well for an old trail fort in the early days of the push out west, but had fallen into disuse and is now used by rustlers or a gang as a strong defendable out-of-the-way location. The law may have to track them down and then decide best how to storm the fort without becoming the latest members of the ‘Boothill Club!’
So when you say, “by commenting who the Voodoo Baron from Louisiana,” I’m assuming most folks are going to Google and going with the top hit. If that is what you’re after then Baron Samedi (French: Baron Saturday) also written Baron Samdi, Bawon Samedi, or Bawon Sanmdi, is one of the loa of Haitian Vodou. Samedi is a loa of the dead, along with Baron’s numerous other incarnations Baron Cimetière, Baron La Croix, and Baron Kriminel. If so, there you go…….
But the book does not say, anywhere inside it, that Baron Samedi was the inspiration. So we may all be leaning on what the book ‘might’ have implied…..
The rulebook, “The Curse of Dead Man’s Hand”, does have stories in it talking about the possible identity of the Baron… these stories try to figure out the real identity of the Baron.
Excerpt #1……He’s no Baron, but he was a judge in South Carolina who wore a trademark top hat and long-tailed coat that he still wears now. Judge Elihu Bay……….(read the book for the whole excerpt)
Excerpt two……A plantation owner in Saint Dominque over one hundred years ago, The Baron was a French aristocrat called de Mezy………..(read the book for the whole excerpt)
Excerpt three…..The Baron was a Voodoo priest called Dutty Boukman who fought with Dessalines during the Haitian Revolution………..(read the book for the whole excerpt)
Expert four and five…….these stories are just vague encounters with mysterious folk that wore a top hat and coat and no name was given……
Of all the stories, the Dutty Boukman is “Google Interesting”. Here’s what Google says on Dutty Boukman…..
Dutty Boukman (Also known as “Boukman Dutty”) (died 7 November 1791) was an early leader of the Haitian Revolution, enslaved in Jamaica and later in Haiti. He is considered to have been both a leader of maroons and vodou hougan (priest). [3]
According to some contemporary accounts Boukman alongside Cécile Fatiman, a Vodou mambo, presided over the religious ceremony at Bois Caïman, in August 1791, that served as the catalyst to the 1791 slave revolt which is usually considered the beginning of the Haitian Revolution.
Boukman was a key leader of the slave revolt in the Le Cap‑Français region in the north of the colony. He was killed by the French planters and colonial troops in 7 November 1791[4][5], just a few months after the beginning of the uprising. The French then publicly displayed Boukman’s head in an attempt to dispel the aura of invincibility that Boukman had cultivated. The fact that French authorities had to do this illustrates the impact Boukman made on the views of Haitian people during this time.
Just my two cents whorth……
Baron Samedi.
I’d use the fort for Draculas America and also for what if border skirmishes between the US and french intervention forces in Mexico in the 1860s.
Oh yes this would be amazinga s we’re just trying to get more people here in Dublin to play WWX, wouldn’t hurt to have more terrain 🙂
Baron Samedi
The Papa Loa’s name is Baron Samedi!
“C’est terrifiant, le vaudou!!!”
By the way, this kit would be terrrific to play a game version of the wonderful film “Ravenous”!
I don’t know the original stories, but I know the name Baron Samedi/Saturday
The name is Baron Samedi. Would love to use this terrain for anything colonial as well. Northern Crown, Colonial Gothic, etc.
Nice to see 4ground in the studio again, lovely guys…… Baron Samedi is the fella name ……
Baron Samedi. Definitely would have to use my Blood and Plunder with this set. Also have colonial militia and woodland Indians for this!!
I thought it was The Baron 🙂 zombieeeesss 😉
+1 for Baron Samedi.
The Voodoo Baron from Lousiana was called Baron Samedi. This is a brilliant set, I would mainly use it for Frostgrave and fantasy roleplaying. Defending the fort from the shambling hordes of undead would be a great scenario, especially if facing som burning skeletons 🙂
Baron Samedi
There’s a 10cc song about him too 😀

According to James Bond its Baron Samedi. Looking forward to the terrain for Blood and Plunder?
Baron Samedi. Was referenced in the delightfully campy “Live and Let Die”.
Baron Samedi — I think I’d even use this for some Burrows and Badgers as a post in Northumbria … lets face it, I would use this for most anything, heck I’d make an excuse to use this for my SW Legion .. not sure how, but give me time lol
Baron Samedi, loa of the dead. I’d play Dracula’s America and In Her Majesty’s Name in that fort.
Love 4Ground’s stuff
I’m so thinking of using this for wild West Exodus, just needs a couple of RJ generators and some cabling and done
Baron Samedi, I would actually use this for Dracula’s America another weird west game from Osprey.
Baron Samedi!!!… the terrain in very nice, I really would like to play some Wild west Exodus on that set!!!
Master of the dead, Baron Samedi
Seen some of this at the devises wargame show, really nice
