4Ground Show Off Their Upcoming Sci-Fi Terrain Range!
October 19, 2015 by brennon
4Ground have been kind enough to share with us the first images of their upcoming 28mm Sci-Fi Terrain that will be released later this year with pre-orders beginning from the 30th of October. See what you think...
The whole set is made in the same way as the rest of their terrain and there will be three different pieces initially with one of them being a two storey building for a bit of elevation.
Each of the buildings also comes with the 'glass' that you see in them above. There will be two types of acetate available within the terrain kit when you get it. One of them will be clear and the other will be orange and 'polarised'. I think that both would look great for various types of building.
You can see the two storey building here and then a smaller one below which has the roof removed allowing you to see what's going on inside. I would say this terrain works exceptionally well for the likes of AFTERLIFE or MERCS since it has a very solid and purposeful design which fits in with that world more than the sleek nature of Infinity.
Obviously as a whole they are completely generic enabling them to fit into a range of different settings. They would make quite good purpose built housing on a military base or as a research facility. I think we're in for some fun with this range.
I would like to see them do some iconic pieces to fit in with this range too. This could include the likes of power stations, transmission towers, fencing and more.
Will you be getting some of this for your tabletop?

When I look at this, I don’t feel it has had the same love given to it as many of the other 4Ground ranges.
Would be nice to have the footprint of those, you could probably even use them for Deadzone.
Ruined ones would also be awesome
Oh my god. Just when I thought I’d recovered from buying a shed load of Mordenberg stuff and am preparing to buy the desert buildings, they do this. I hate you 4ground…
Bit disappointing. Buildings look very boxy. Not as nice as the Antenocitis Workshop stuff.
Bear in mind future buildings would probably be very boxy and rigid, easy to assemble and make loads of them. Especially if they were to do with a military outpost or facility.
Trouble is these look like the Micro arts studio’s infinity building had a rumble with Bandua Q building in bed and these are their offspring. The pre-colouring is good but still it just doesn’t look like they have had the loving development of the Mordenburg stuff.
If the price is right then they would be work it, however i’m not sure.
They do not seem like something new.
Most of the 4ground terrain we seen so far been opening new doors, but we can hope there is a center piece in there waiting to come out and hit us with shock and awe !
Would love to see the skyscraper they did in 10 mm in 28mm
…too right. Especially in newly explored or colonised areas. I think they are fantastic – wouldn’t look out of place with my Micro Arts stuff either. Bonus!
I see what you’re saying, on the other hand I’ve still not assembled mine because so far they’ve only released one set of building plans, so it would be nice to get a kit that I could see how to assemble them.
They do look similar to the other Infinity ranges available, but that’s not a bad thing, it keeps a similar stylistic look to your board then without anything being too jarring.
Have to agree with the general sentiment. Everything else from 4Ground has been top end – the best of its kind available. This is just one more so-so future building block, that has little to distinguish it from other kits beyond the fact it is pre-painted. It is therefore fine, but hardly essential.
I like them. Are they groundbreaking advances in scifi architecture? No, but they do look good for what they are. I also notice there’s no tabs visible on the roofs and corners. They are definitely improving their designs. Overall a solid start to a scifi line.
Ok just as I posted I saw there’s a very few tabs still visible if you look closely. Still better than their older lines though.
I think PlastCraft’s ColorEd line of sci-fi buildings does this as well or better and I’m willing to bet that PlastCraft’s pricing will be lower.
nice Sci-Fi with a hint of 60s to them very nice.
With the new Card Shanty buildings from Battle systems these are a fail for me.
I don’t think the 3 colours together help, the blue colour is terrible, the just seem limited in their construction
Having seen them knock the fantasy buildings range right out of the park I guess my expectations of 4Ground are a little higher than this. They’re certainly not bad, but they do seem a bit uninspired.
I thought I was going to be the only one saying they were underwhelmed but, well… it doesn’t look that way. They look fine, but nothing special. Unlike the really amazing 10mm buildings and the Mordenburg kits.
More variety is always good though. I wonder how competitively they’ll be priced?
As this doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Then my only reason to buy would be price? All companies are following the same design.
I’ve been waiting for this for some time, and we’ll happily support it if it means they continue to make more.
Their fantasy range took a little time to evolve, and I suspect this week be the same.
.. It’s also entirely possible that they’re still working on some of the detail…
I’m not in love….. they are certainly not at the same level as the fantasy range.
On the other hand they might be FUNCTIONAL for infinity: covers rooms line breaking….
Wow, how inconsistent we are as a community. So if 4ground bring out a range that is similar to others (despite the fact that this range has been in the planning for a long time) we moan because it is nothing new. If they brought out a range that was completely new, we would moan that it didn’t fit with our existing terrain. And we decide all this from the few pictures we have seen here !!! Seriously guys, we all know that the standard of the terrain from 4ground is exceptional. It is sturdy, fits together well, is already… Read more »
