4Ground Holding Closing Down Sale For Terrain Range
March 16, 2022 by brennon
4Ground has announced that they are coming to the end of their journey and closing up shop. To this end, the team are holding a Closing Down Sale where you can get your hands on remaining terrain pieces before they are gone for good.
Closing Down Sale // 4Ground
The terrain from 4Ground is absolutely fantastic and covers all manner of scales and genres. They had recently been designing 6mm and 8mm terrain for use with Adeptus Titanicus but they also have more standard 28mm and 32mm kits for Fantasy and Sci-Fi games. You have until 30th June 2022 to start adding to your collection.
We have made great use of their terrain over the years and what they have created has been the mainstay of our tabletops for a long time! I don't see that changing any time soon either. You will certainly have seen their pre-painted terrain on our tabletops at one time or another.
Best of luck to the 4Ground team with what they have lined up next!

Wow that’s a sad day for the gamers world they made fabulous terrain for players.
It would be truly bizarre if 4Ground buildings suddenly stopped being manufactured forever. Someone out there has to be able to obtain the production rights to continue making them (possibly a smaller range at a higher price point.) It’s like Mercedes one day deciding to never make another car ever again. The gold-standard of MDF buildings should not just up & disappear!
If 4Ground cannot make money they why would anyone else want to buy the expensive machines to produce the same loss making product. They are already expensive. The overheads of the machines alone mean that a small product run would need a much higher price point.
The fact is that nobody else jumped in to make the same high quality pre-painted mdf terrain. There are a lot of options for cheap unpainted mdf, or pre-printed cardboard (which is easier to store).
A great product, but sadly not a viable business.
I think Sarissa has started to do some “pre-painted” stuff, but it seems to be using a different technology (looks more like some kind of photo print) rather than 4Ground system of pre-painted multipart construction to get the desired effect. I think a lot of people who have never purchased any 4 Ground terrain might not be aware that even the buildings like the Dark Ages hovels are two layers of MDF (even the insides of the walls are prepainted). So that may be the main reason why the 4 Ground stuff seems so expensive (effectively you are buying twice… Read more »
Black Site Studios’ is making great pre-painted MDF.
That’s unexpected. Sorry to see them go.
*sigh*
I’m saddened as I do love their terrain and with them so goes any chance of the legends of the fabled realms ever existing outside of beta
Some of looks nice, but even discounted it’s still expensive.
I’m holding on for bigger discounts closer to June 30th.
It’s MDF at Resin Prices
What a shame, I picked up loads of their stuff and was pleased with the value.
Fabled Realm Kickstarter traffic is toxic. I do understand the frustration as I’m a backer as well.
Remember when 4Ground launched Legends of the Fabled Realms back in 2017? You couldn’t swing a cat on this website without hitting a LOTFR article.
This is where Beasts of War and OTT fail for me, they promote something to the hilt then never mention it again. Same thing happened with that Blood Bowl knock off (myth and goal).
Same thing happens time and time again, it wouldn’t hurt anyone just to run an article breaking down the timeline of events etc. when new games go wrong, or struggle, I would personally find that really interesting.
I think it’s partially a problem with “paid promotions” and the desire of follow ups. When company A pays OTT to run an event/campaign to get word around, visibility of company A’s product will skyrocket. Because that’s what pays the bills. When then the contract is fulfilled other companies will book front page. Bringing up stuff from company A without being paid is bad short term because there is no money in it. For us, readers and consumers, it’s bad because we want to know “what happens next”. And with OTT being short on staff (just compare the output with… Read more »
Largely agree with your points.
Definitely think a “What ever happened to?” series would be good.
I shall for one will treasure the buildings I have from Mordanburg to the Saxon, Viking and Arabic villages. Just added one last piece for my New England terrain for old time sake.
Looks like the 4Ground stuff is still available…but just under a different name.
