Dark Ops’ 28mm Ironclad Guards Your Steampunk Waterways
April 20, 2017 by brennon
Dark Ops has shown off their rather epic looking 28mm Ironclad, the USS Monitor, which would be great for your Steampunk games on the tabletop or indeed the American Civil War.
This is a rather awesome looking vessel which is ready to defend the waterways against enemy incursions. The middle section of the Ironclad does come off revealing the gun deck inside.
It might only be packing two cannons but with a few of these on the water, you'd have a fearsome force to be reckoned with. Now you just need to do them up in different colours and have some skirmishes on the tabletop between Ironclad crews.
Maybe this could be the flagship of one of your flotillas?
USS Union
This is another of the Ironclads that recently got added to the Dark Ops webstore and will be available for folks to pick up from Salute this weekend.
This is a much larger vessel with plenty of room on top for battles between crews but the middle section also comes off allowing you to scrap inside too.
We need to get a few of these and play out some games of Wolsung on the tabletop near our dockyard. Imagine the fun you could have with this lot and some Steampunk weirdness thrown in for good measure?
What do you think of their Ironclads?

That’s pretty cool. It would be nice to see some minis on it.
Would love to see if I can convert it, for WWX
Therlse are superb, compared to the Sarrissa ironclads. These are far more historically accurate:-)
The USS monitor only fought in one naval battle at Hampton Roads which was a stalemate. It then supported a land battle before Sinking off Cape Hatteras.
I can see a scenario with ACW mini’s being played out in and around these Ironclads.
they are brilliant models.
The USS Union has nice potential for a (Chaos) Dwarf ironclad which would be great for skirmish games (with some extra work could even work for something like Dungeon Saga or Heroquest as part of a campaign where the heroes are going into a dwarfhold that has an underground docks on one level and they have to fight their way to the ship to escape, or sink it , or the like)
Well I picked up a USS monitor at Salute and had a chat with Steve Perry from Dark Ops his plans for this range are awesome… Apparently he is looking to do a 28mm version of the Monitor, as the one that you can see above is effectively only a 15mm version 🙂
