Star Wars Episode VIII Title Announced – The Last Jedi
January 23, 2017 by brennon
Over on the Star Wars website we got the title of Episode VIII in this epic Sci-Fi saga. The new film, coming in December, is The Last Jedi.
Coming December 15th 2017 we're in for a treat. One assumes we're going to see Luke Skywalker training Rey to become the Last Jedi mentioned in the title.
Are you excited, even this far out?

Could be Rey, could even refer to Luke himself.
That was my first thought as well. Isn’t Luke already the last Jedi?
Rey does have affinity with the Force, but the whole Jedi culture looks to be almost extinct.
“Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed.
With the support of the REPUBLIC, General Leia Organa leads a brave RESISTANCE. She is desperate to find her brother Luke and gain his help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy.
Leia has sent her most daring pilot on a secret mission to Jakku, where an old ally has discovered a clue to Luke’s whereabouts….”
Pant wettingly excited and a little sad that it is Carrie’s last outing as Leia.
its going to be emotional with Carrie. I stopped going to see rogue one after the news dropped,
I get emotional with the princess at the best of times.
Some people actually also suggested the red lettering could be to do with Kylo – maybe the whole Sith thing was him undercover after all.
He killed his dad, that would be strange undercover???
Nah. The Red Lettering is due to Ray. I tell you, she is a Palpatine and will go really evil in that episode. And Supreme Leader Snoke is actually Mace Windu who infiltrated the Empire… sorry the First Order to bring balance to the Force.
On a serious note: With Rogue One Disney proved to me that they can do it. So I’m really looking forward to this. Hoping it will get somewhat dark again, but with a glimmer of hope at the end. You know, like Empire 😀
I thought it was going to be “Star Wars The Next Generation”.
Stop stealing my Jokes @lloyd

It could have been : The Last Tie Fighter …
unless they’re saving that one for the third.
‘A New Enterprise’ or ‘Finding Lost Data’
Ouch. I hope that’s not an ill omen. Luke is supposed to have the badass screen time he really deserves. Indeed this might hint at him getting into the or at least one centre seat now (the obvious step after TFA, really). But, when he is the last real Jedi as of now already, what of Rey? Either it’s kind of a blunt title about him singularly bearing the burden of continuing the culture or isn’t about him, meaning he will die or retire even further. As a compromise it might mean Rey (or who ever) being the single hope… Read more »
Well, that title does not bode well for the future health of Luke Skywalker. I can’t help but feel he might wind up going the same way as Obiwan Kenobi back in A New Hope. Hopefully, he will get a good send off and an opportunity to properly train Rey before his final curtain call.
What do you mean I have to wait 11 more months?!?!?!
yesss … no more Jedi after this one.
Then again … Jedi are like cockroaches.
When you think you’ve killed them all another one pops up.
Yeah Jedi, we dont need this scum.
buddha’s see Buddha’s
monkey’s see monkey’s
Well interesting choice for title that’s for sure. It sure makes people speculate about what it means.
love the title.
my favourite thing in all of STAR WARS is Lukes training with master Yoda. so i’m absolutely head over heels for this one. I adore Rey and Luke Skywalker’s Luke Skywalker, enough said. it just couldn’t get any better for me personally. the trailer is going to make me pee my pants never mind the actual film. I hope Luke goes Gandalf with the force and shows us the power of the light. and beyond all this we are going to say goodbye to our princess.
The nice thing is that Jedi is used for both the singular & plural, so it could mean Luke or Rey, or it could mean Luke & Rey. Personally I think it might be interesting if it signifies Luke’s realization that Jedi & Sith are far too binary, and true balance requires something that draws on both sides of The Force. In that context, Luke would himself be the last Jedi, whilst training Rey to be something altogether different… (Also as an aside, it tickles me somewhat that this is also the title of the final book in a series… Read more »
the force is like energy you cant kill it only change it if the last Jedi is dead another will rise.
Could Luke have more Jedi on the island with him? It didn’t say he escaped alone.
Read the Legendary Series Marvel Comic of the same name as the upcoming movie. That should get the story conspiracies going pretty good.
Well I guess calling it the “Jedi that Pissed Off and Returned Again” does not have the same ring
Meh.
After the last couple of movies, I just can’t bring myself to care anymore.
The magic that was Star Wars is long gone…
Does that perhaps mean you finally have grown up?
I certainly found lots of star wars magic in both of them.
