Clone Commandos & Range Troopers For Star Wars: Legion!
March 19, 2024 by brennon
Atomic Mass Games are announcing a whole bunch of new miniatures for Star Wars: Legion ahead of Adepticon this year. Diving into the Clone Wars and also a Star Wars origin story, we have some great troopers for you to consider adding to your games.
Republic Clone Commandos // Star Wars: Legion
For those who played Republic Commando or Star Wars: Battlefront, the Clone Commandos will be a set that brings up all sorts of memories! These elite troopers get sent on all manner of dangerous missions for the Republic and work as a close-knit team on the tabletop. These miniatures can be used as a standard Support Unit or you can use them as the awesome Delta Squad.

All you'd need to do is paint them like the characters from Republic Command and away you go! There are two upgrade cards in the set to upgrade them to wear Katarn Pattern Armour and you've also got the options for their DC-17m ICWS Blaster Carbines.
I love that we're seeing another fun set of miniatures for Star Wars: Legion that looks into some of the Star Wars side stories. Republic Commando was one of my favourite games as a kid, even if it was pretty hard, and I can see a lot of people taking on the challenge of painting them like Boss, Scorch, Fixer and Sev. Maybe you could even come up with some scenarios based on the events of Republic Commando?
Stormtroopers On The Frontier
As well as the Clone Commandos, we also have a set of miniatures representing the grizzled Stormtroopers that fight on different frontier planets. You might remember the Range Troopers from the Solo movie.
Range Troopers // Star Wars: Legion
This set comes with seven Range Troopers who can be used to represent some more of your grizzled veterans within your expanding Galactic Empire army. They are armed with the E-10R Blaster Rifle and can be joined by a heavy weapon miniature to add more firepower to the equation.

With abilities allowing them to traverse difficult terrain and six upgrade cards to take them in different directions, I think this is going to be a set that a lot of people end up picking up. I really like that whilst they have the look of a Storm Trooper, they look different enough to make them feel specialised and unique. Much like with the Clone Commandos, I think folks are going to have some fun painting them up, especially when it comes to tinkering with the battle damage on their armour.
Both of these sets are available for you to pre-order now ahead of a May release.
Which of these two sets will you be snapping up?

Now all we need is a young Han Solo XD Oh and Range Troopers will go into the shopping cart as soon as they arrive.
So what you’re saying is that you’re building an epic, moving train heist gaming table for SWL then?
I could tell you. But then I’d have to unalive you.
would that be before or after the firesale for Legion ? 😉
I feel like Legion peaked during the last couple of years under Fantasy Flight, with annual points adjustments and rules balancing, not to mention some really lovely plastic kits. Since it’s moved to AMG the game balancing seems to have completely stopped and the latest kits look more in line with the old pre plastic releases. The poses look awkward and the proportions just seem really off, especially the tiny feet on the Commandos!
I really need to finish painting Legion. I got the starter with Luke and Vader, Jin Erso, a bunch of mandalorians and the Scum and Villainy box… plus a Speeder Truck, two more speeder bikes and clone sidecar speeder (the vehicles were half price and I was running a WEG Star Wars RPG at the time). Then I need to find an opponent of course… Have they published stat cards as pdf for Legion? Be nice to be able use my Imperial Assault minis (and yes I know the scale is wrong) along with Shatterpoint stuff (ditto on scale) for… Read more »
