Let’s Play: Star Wars Legion – 800 Point Upgrade Battle
February 18, 2018 by dignity
Welcome back into the storm that's kicked up from Star Wars: Legion from Fantasy Flight Games.
Click here for more Star Wars
This time we've amped up the points to 800 with the addition of the AT-ST and the swooping Airspeeder. With these larger models on the table, we can't wait to see what happens between the Light and Dark side of the force.
What model would you love to see in Star Wars: Legion?

Oh good lordy, it’s here!! My weekend is made.
Nooo I can’t watch it with the big lump in the way. Ah well I am sure there will be more content in the future.
That was a great game to watch. Reminded me of similar scenarios i’ve played in other systems that required movement across the board and there never was any by me or my opponent 😀 . Don’t be hard on yourselves when playing these games, i certainly don’t expect these early videos to be rules perfect when you are learning the game on screen.
Great battle. Looking forward to painting the core box when it arrives.
Great stuff
Have you considered games of 1k to 1.5k in the future ? Or would you wait for some more toys to get released first to keep the lists fresh ?
This game went all the more fluently and quickly compared to the others, and that with more stuff to play around with. I´d like to see Obi-wan Kenobi added to the game, or, hang on, Qui-Gonn, or eeer Darth Tyranus, or, just wait, Boba Fett, or Han Solo and Chewbacca, and, huey, Ewoks, and … I got lost.
My favourite moment: Justin: “I´m gonna be coy now.” Gerry: “Like a carp.” Great!
Thank you for this report. Fun , laughter and action, that´s what we want.
Definitely 😀 . More reports and more @avernos 🙂 .
I second this!
Thirded!
I might miss something here…but killing Vader would most likely result in a draw….because the empire would also have no vp´s earned 🙂
I have to say – would prefer if you let games like this play out rather than concede.
Otherwise, thanks very much for the videos. Really enjoyed them.
Honestly, it’s easy to see why it was called. The mission was to have unit leaders in the opposing deployment zone at the end of turn 6, which ( as i understand it ) for this game meant the troop units and the speeder bikes ? Getting bogged down in a firefight during a game like this is easy ( as i said earlier, it’s happened in other systems with similar scenarios to me ). Maybe it does require an FAQ, maybe it doesn’t as i’ve mentioned what i think qualifies for a scenario such as this one.
Thanks guys, enjoyed it very much. I watch through to the end. I like it because it gives me an idea of how the game will flow. Thank you for the extra effort given this is your 3rd play of the game.
Is there an overall morale for each side ?
Not in terms of army break points, just individual units and because they can use the leaders morale within a fairly large bubble they’re fine. Once Luke was gone they’re going to start panicking with 2 suppression on them so routing the troopers becomes very easy
Cheers Gerry
This video has swung me back around. At 800 points the intricacies of the tactics really start to come through. I still think the weakness is in the missions, but that’s the easiest thing to home brew or later expansions will no doubt add variety. The core mechanics have really grown on me. Activation order and target priority seem key as suppression seems to be a huge factor. And this brings forward the game developers intention that the game is about objectives rather than all out killing. I think we just need to see some more thematic missions and this… Read more »
Great to see a full tournament level game. Still a shame about the landing pad placement.
Can I also recommend that you paint the measuring stick in alternating black and white with each painted area representing an increment range? That will show up much better on camera than a long grey stick so it is more apparent in the video where the range increments are.
Really loved all the battle reports, the best across the whole net! I think you guys really should put on something special the week Legion releases in March. Might i suggest something that utilizes John’s amazing ATAT piece!
A bit of a story here regarding these Star Wars Legion Let’s Play videos. Short version, they have beneficial supernatural powers that I have now tested and proven. 😀 Background: This past week has been a bit of a roller coaster here. Some terrible events in our local community, unfamiliar challenges at work, big setbacks in painting projects in my hobby … across the board and in all sectors of my life, things this week have been either going very, very wrong, or very, very right. In gaming terms, it’s been a week of “1s” and “6s.” I may be… Read more »
Another great video, really enjoyed it and nice to see some different units in action. Look forward to more in the future.
Great video and series but have a question for the gamers here, would you play a game without luke and vader, they seem like magnets and would like to see how the game goes without them, as then other items and leaders would have to take the lead.
Would love tove to see a tatooine battle around a sandcrawler on the desert mat recently shown on the weekender
I think any leader you put out will draw fire. Once they are dead it hampers your opponent and their force can be easily routed. But I am interested in seeing what other commanders are played beyond General Veers and Leia
Yes, it may be that refighting endor is not possible (yet) it maKes me want to see if abit more movement would add to the flow of the game.
There is that old WW2 American military rev of firefights (maybe out of vouge now) that most of the fighting in most firefights were down to a few individuals( heroes if you will) and the rest are generally keeping their heads down. Probably explains high percentage of Junior officer killed from all sides in Normandy, they were the one trying to motivate everyone else to do something. So what you describe seems pretty accurate, plus it fits in with the Star Wars films, nobody remembers trooper 5 huddling behind the barricade! One argument is that veteran troops are more likely… Read more »
Good one again guys, nice to blob out to when got home, whilst building Imperial Marine Reivers,
Thanks again guys! Hope to see some more, love the depth this game will have.
I’m with @avernos . An army of murderous teddy bears is what would get me into this game. 🙂
a great game.
