Take Part In This Years Great Wargaming Survey!
August 14, 2017 by brennon
Guy Bowers & Jasper Oorthuys of Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy magazine are coming to the end of another Great Wargaming Survey in conjunction with Karwansaray Publishing and you can still take part.
Take The Survey Here
The survey looks into gaming trends and tries to piece together an idea of how the industry is right now from your perspective. Taking the survey also puts you in a position to win a raffle prize and everyone who completes the survey also gets a €5 gift code for the Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy / Karwansaray Publisher's webshop.
So far some of the information they've collated has pointed to...
- Some interesting responses due to the split between Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar into their own genres. It will be good to see what the split is between these two now with a new edition, and of course how many Games Workshop fans are taking the survey.
- Another new response for hobby related questions was around collecting and, surprise, surprise - this appears to be doing very well.
- There seems to be no sign of ageing in terms of the respondents to the survey but signs are pointing to their being a lot more younger people joining in than last year.
All of these little bites of information are yet to be full collated of course, so things could change over the next few days, but it will be interesting to see which way the wind is blowing in the industry.
Have you taken this yet?

The results of this survey are really interesting. If you’re reading this and you haven’t particpated, please do! It doesn’t take long!
Done!
……..and talking of surveys: What happened to the BOW 2016 awards?
I believe “life” is the answer to that question , unfortunately
I took the survey already and obviously one of my answers was “collecting” because, well, that’s what we all do in wargaming. Then when I heard the answer “collecting” is doing very well I thought about what the previous CEO of Games Workshop said in annual reports, that the main customers of GW were collectors, not gamers, not painters. It turns out he was probably right, some of us are gamers, some are painters but all of us are collectors. We just don’t think about ourselves as such.
That’s true but to that gentleman in question, the hobby was buying miniatures not painting or playing. Which is depressing when you think about it.
Far from defending him, or his view about the hobby, I just never thought before of me as a “collector”. I think of myself mainly as “gamer” but then I realize I have at least 20 ruleset I never played, and even more boxes of plastic soldiers or bags of metal models still packed 😉
I can assure you that playing and painting both do very well as well. It’s just that ‘collecting’ went from ‘new in the charts’ to number 1… I suppose it confirms the well-known wargamer affliction usually called ‘Oooh shiney’ syndrome.
