Prepare for Epic Sci-fi War as Spartan Games Launch Planetfall!
September 10, 2014 by dracs
It's here, Spartan Games' long awaited game Planetfall, a 10mm scifi game based around armoured and infantry combat in the universe of Firestorm Armada, is up for pre-order!
Spartan have a good range of products lined up for the game's initial launch, the most exciting of which has to be the two player box set the Battle for Proteus Prime.
Two player sets like these are the perfect way to get started in a new game, and this box provides you with Core Helix forces for the Aquan and Directorate, meaning you have an excellent start to build your force around.
You can then expand upon these two forces with either of the two Allied Recon Helix forces that will also be seeing release at the game's launch.
According to Spartan, Planetfall allows players to field two Allied Helix sets for each Core Helix in a force. I think this a great mechanic, as it adds new options and flexibility to your army, and means you're not necessarily tied down to a single play style.
Along with these awesome sets and miniatures, Spartan Games will also be releasing some Planetfall terrain to help liven up your planet side battles.
Planetfall is launching with everything you need to get started in what promises to be a very interesting tactical game. The miniatures will all see release come October, but are currently up for pre-order from Spartan's webstore.
Personally, I am rather excited about this. All the models for Planetfall keep with the familiar designs we recognise from Firestorm Armada, but still manage to be new and interesting, while the game itself should be a cool addition to Spartan's already impressive library.
Do you play Firestorm Armada? What do you think of Planetfall? Which faction are you waiting for in particular?

Not finding a lot of info about the game – looks a bit DZC’ish to me…no bad thing.
Gameplay info is pretty scarce, but Spartan Neil confirms it will be identifiable as a Spartan Games game and will include the exploding 6s mechanic, it will also be more objective based than any of their past games from what I understand. ^_^
It looks effing amazing!
Looking forward to seeing how the rules are done. But as a purely personal opinion, while well sculpted and painted, the minis do nothing for me.
The scenery is great though, love that.
Gotta agree, was expecting more tbh
You should see the Dindrenzi, Relthoza, Terran and Sorylian stuff, I’m sure you’ll find your flavor. And without giving too much away, it will be objective based, includes the expoding 6s mechanic and will definitely feel like a Spartan Games game. ^_^
Another nice looking starter set. I am also looking forward to seeing more about how the game plays.
It plays like a finely tuned instrument. 🙂
FINALLY!!! Been waiting for this for awhile now and can’t wait to place my order.
Will all the factions be available now at launch?
While Spartan haven’t confirmed anything, to me it seems like the starter set goes first, this month, and all the factions “core sets” will be released later. They did say they will all be released at once, so I imagine the month after the starter set (after all, they do want it to sell).
They have said that their will be downloadable rules from the website for all the main factions… so you can always test the models out.
15£ for the rule book not bad that.
I’ve been watching this for a while and it has my interest that’s for sure, I would like to see a wider range of the mini’s and forces along with the rules before committing though.
I picked up the Firestorm Armada starter set at the start of summer just because I like the way the miniatures look and I wanted to paint some spaceships. I have never played the game, but I really like the look of these new miniatures and will definitely be getting a Terran set just to paint. At least until I can find some people who want to play in my area.
I guess it’s all well designed but the humanoid aliens instantly put me off completely, shame they arent some kind of bionic jellyfish instead.
I really can not get warm with Spartan Games. Compared to lots of other companies out there most of their designs are simply poor and lacking any aesthetics. The models of Planetfall are utterly ugly and they don`t even provide painted models, but coloured 3D renders – pathetic.
The only good point is the relatively low prices, even though models are cast in really bad quality in my experience. Having said that, I can not understand the euphoric comments about this game, unless I see more proper painted models and some insights about how the game mechanics work in detail.
