Pre-Order New Heroscape Sets From Renegade Game Studios
March 5, 2024 by brennon
The return to Heroscape from Avalon Hill is now available to pre-order from the folks at Renegade Game Studios. There are three sets for you to snap up as part of the wave one pre-orders, offering up larger and smaller entry points into Heroscape for newcomers and veterans alike.
Age Of Annihilation Master Set // Heroscape
The first of the sets that you can snap up is the Age of Annihilation Master Set which offers up a whole host of options for an epic two-player session on the tabletop. You'll be able to dive in with your range of miniatures and play out a host of scenarios from the Battle Of All Time. Everything here is completely compatible with previous Heroscape content and of course, anything that is released in the future.
Age Of Annihilation Master Set - Miniatures // Heroscape
This particular set comes with twenty brand-new unpainted miniatures for Heroscape and a whole host of those awesome interlocking hex tiles that will be so familiar to people who have played Heroscape in the past. You will also get nine different scenarios to play through and whilst this supports two players, you can expand it to three and four players with another Battle Box or Master Set.
Age Of Annihilation Master Set - Terrain // Heroscape
If you want to dive into this return to Heroscape then you can also get your hands on the Pre-Painted Version of the Age Of Annihilation Master Set which takes the hobby out of the equation and just allows you to get stuck in with the playing.
A New Battle Box
Another of the pre-orders is the new Battle Box called Battle For The Wellspring.
Battle For The Wellspring // Heroscape
This set works as a much smaller option for someone starting in Heroscape. Focused on a particular clash around the wellsprings of Valhalla, you can get six new miniatures in the set including pirates, a wizard and some familiars. Classic Heroscape mixing and matching.
Battle For The Wellspring - Miniatures // Heroscape
This set comes with a whole host of new terrain tiles plus all the bits and pieces that you need to get going in Heroscape. You also get four new scenarios which, again, are compatible with past and future Heroscape content. Much like with the Master Set above, you can also get a Pre-Painted Version of Battle For The Wellspring which will be akin to the miniatures you see here in this preview.
New Terrain
Finally, you can also pre-order The Grove at Laur's Edge which offers up some new terrain options for your Heroscape games.
The Grove At Laur's Edge // Heroscape
This now allows you to battle around Valhalla with some new jungle pieces to help enhance your tabletops. There are three Laur Jungle trees and six Laur Underbrush pieces for you to include in your games plus a set-up guide which gives you hints for making good tabletops. Slot this in alongside the sets above and enhance your battlefields.
Heroscape is back and in a big way! Could you be tempted to dive in and explore what's available from this new wave of Heroscape releases? Are you going to be opening up that box in the attic and bringing the old toys down to play with again?
Will you be diving in for the first time perhaps?

I’ve still got an old copy kicking around, those tiles are great for BattleTech 😉
Not sure how well this is going to do.
Be interesting too see how it plays out.
Still surprised they aren’t just re-releasing the old figs (or new approximations thereof.) Half the charm (IMHO) was recognizable archetypes fighting each other (vikings vs samurai vs WWII grunts vs Roman legionnaires, etc.) but this looks like a weird SciFi/Magic/Warmachine amalgam that doesn’t really resonate. Maybe it’s just me.
My guess is that they’re targeting HS towards the hobbyists, not general mass production. The prices are high, and HeroScapers.com still supports the game, so the assumption is that these hobbyists already have the old figures.
Of course, whether or not these new figures will be bought by old hobbyists will be seen. Do they want additional figures to the old factions? Do they want new factions?
Lovely Jungle bits. Unfortunately the last thing I need is more heroscape terrain so I’ll probably miss out on the Master set. And…hopefully they have moved away from those annoying hexagony stat cards for the characters. Please.
Back once again it’s the Renegade Game Studios
