Chuy & Apprentice Journey Forth From Ninja Division
January 20, 2020 by brennon
Chuy & Apprentice is a new duo kit from Ninja Division as part of their Masterclass Miniatures collection. See what you make of this rather familiar-looking duo!
This pairing are available for pre-order right now and can be used in both Super Dungeon and Rail Raiders Infinite. I love their chibi look and I think that a lot of people are going to be very happy to pick these miniatures up and either simply paint them up or drop them into the mix across the aforementioned games.
Here is the backstory that Ninja Division has talked about...
"Blasting their way south from Arcadia alongside Steelhorse Candy, Chuy and his misfit sidekick, known only as The Apprentice, have an uncommon knack for stirring up trouble. The minions of the Dark Consul have become obsessed with The Apprentice's capture. No doubt they are drawn to the young Apprentice Mage's unique connection to the magicks of Crystalia."
I'm sure that some of you folks are going to be snapping these up. I don't think this is going to be the end of the quirky offerings in this style that we're going to be getting either!
What do you make of this pair?

now is that Yoda or Dobby?
Me likely. Chibi is the way!
It’s the wrong way…. WRONG WAY!
I have spoken.
that still doesn’t make you right or the chibis any less cute :-p
Oh hell yes it does! 😉
I would field a complete chibi army … just to annoy the flock out of my opponents. 😀
Way to profit off someone else’s creative talents.
Shouldn’t be surprised, not coming from such a crooked company as Ninja Division.
Oh come off it. I understand you’re pissed off at them for being bad at kickstarters, so am I but this is the single most normal thing to do in any nerdy industry ever. It’s a meme. Y’all freak out over this little CGI Yoda, so obviously there’s gonna be “homages” from everyone… and I didn’t hear any whinging when the last 3 sculptors made look alikes of it.
Oh, in that case… that makes it completely and utterly okay.
Low hanging fruit is still low hanging.
If you want it, better get it now. I was just reading an article about Disney cracking down on unofficial Mandalorian merchandise on Esty. So did Ninja Division ever fulfill any of their outstanding kickstarters?
They’ve actually been in the process of doing so after all the backlash people have been giving them.
Hmm, from what I can see they’ve started producing the chibi figures for their ‘Way of the Fighter’ Kickstarter (2 years late). But then this is their smallest outstanding KS – only 511 backers for the miniatures pledge, which are in resin and relatively few in number.
No visible progress though on fulfilling pledges on the far larger Relic Knights 2nd ed (2 years late, 2,489 backers), or Super Dungeon Explore Legends (3 years late, 6,611 backers). I don’t see how they’d ever be able to even partially fulfill these large Kickstarters with profits from small-scale resin releases.
The reason they did the smallest one first is because it’s the easiest to finance. This masterclass thing is part of how they wanna finance them. So yes, they are trying… but who knows if it’ll work and even if it does I’m not expecting SDL anytime soon 😛
The reason they did the smallest is that it’s the only one they can finance, and the only one they’ll be *able* to finance without having their core product available at retail. They’re in a real catch-22 here in that only SDE or possibly RK have the retail potential to get them large returns, but both potential customer bases have been poisoned by the failed Kickstarters.
I certainly have no delusions about ever getting anything from the SDE:L Kickstarter, which is why I felt it appropriate to splash a little cold-water on kronosthetraveler’s somewhat optimistic comment! XD
@ravingmad8 this particular variant might be considered parody … And as always : piracy and ‘unofficial’ merchandise is a service issue. It’s bleedin’ obvious that people want the baby yoda and/or mandalorians. // There’s been progress and apparently their ‘masterclass’ minis have helped them fund part of it. They also have a deal with Archos that allows backers to get stuff that’s been completed in the Starfinder kickstarter to be shipped early. I know Relic Knights 2.0 is getting a (basic/simplified) starterset. We’ll know more when the various projects get another update. I haven’t gotten anything in minis yet (I… Read more »
Normally I’m okay with the stuff Ninja Division puts out, even with all of the Kickstarter whining (I really do like Relic Knights), but could we please stop with all the Mandalorian and baby Yoda stuff? I recognize it’s popular, but I’m beginning to get sick of seeing them EVERYWHERE. I wish ND would go back to their usual anime-styled stuff and not keep making things like this.
I mean Masterclass has been pretty much nothing but pop culture references.
They look nice.
