This Year Prepare for a Shadowrun Miniatures Game!
March 25, 2013 by dracs
Catalyst Game Labs have announced that this year is going to be "the year of Shadowrun." There have been a bunch of announcements regarding the popular tabletop game, not least of which is the upcoming skirmish game Shadowrun Sprawl Gangers!
Sprawl Gangers is a competitive, skirmish-level miniatures game for 2 players, with everything needed to game right in the box. Players will take on the task of building gangs (Ancients, Halloweeners, First Nation, and so on) following specific point values of a scenario, and modifying the various miniatures based upon what new resources (weapons/gear/magic/tech) a player gained through previous games. Gangs won’t simply fight for the sake of fighting, but will actively building their turfs and resources. Among other things, this will allow for the hiring of the exact right shadowrunner when they need that ace in the hole. All this adds up to the experience of watching your gang grow and expand through exciting play across a swath of games.
I think I can safely say that this is exciting news, especially as the miniatures for the game are being sculpted and produced in conjunction with Cool Mini or Not, who have produced some truly stunning sculpts.
Yet this isn't all that fans of Shadowrun have to look forward to. Firstly, Spring of this year will bring with it a new Shadowrun deckbuilding card game: Shadowrun Crossfire.
A board game is also in the works. Shadowrun Hostile Take Over is described as a "Euro-style" board game where you and your friends will take on the role of megacorporations competing for control of Seattle.
On top of all this fans of the classic RPG will be excited to hear that the fifth edition will also be appearing.
Yup the future is definitely looking bright for Shadowrun fans.
Are any of you fans of Shadowrun? Which of these announcements from Catalyst Game Labs are you most excited about?

Combine this with the two video games, and this is a big year for Shadowrun. I’m cautiously optimistic right now because there really aren’t any details about the new tabletop games at all yet. It would be nice, though, if Shadowrun were returned to the forefront of the RPG market like it used to be. Catalyst seem intent on getting it there.
shadowrun.com is having frequent updates talking about the design direction they are taking with the 5th edition rpg, and I really am liking what im reading. No rules yet, though. There are also developer diaries for Sprawl Gangers, which is currently in a beta. From what it sounds like, the creator is taking heavy inspiration from Mordheim and Necromunda. Im eating up any information i can get like its candy.
I hope riggers get some love in 5th. They kind of got the shaft in 4th. It seems appropriate to do so too since drones are totally a thing now, and people are talking about them as if they weren’t a scifi trope. What I like about the tiny bit of Sprawl Gangers text that is posted at the top of this page, is that it sounds like they’re focusing on campaign gameplay right out of the gate. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I think Catalyst has designed some of the best tabletop campaign systems in the… Read more »
