good show, and a big +1 for getting this out in the MORNING (7am is a lie in if you got a wee kid)
Putting this out the earlier the better.
Usually watch this and match of the day before the mrs and my lad get up.
I would really like to know what themed weeks you guys are looking into.
All I ask is give malifaux some love!
Just one question, Where’s the follow-up to Justin’s (aka Ming the Beardless) debut as a Zombie?!
Ohh we have pics of that, well try to remember for next episode!
Another fun XLBS!! I hope Warren and Dave did well at the tourney and I also hope the renewal of GW coverage isn’t at a loss for other games. There’s enough 40k sites out there! I like BoW for the variety.
Definately no way we would neglect the other coverage. This is just about getting the balance right.
And you guys can always keep us right on that!
Put a cutting mat or something where the close-cam is pointing… As for x-wing, I don’t want to get into it because there’s no hobby aspect to it.
It does straddle the line a little between minis-game and boardgame. My main issue with it is doesn’t have much depth. It’s fine for an hour’s filler when you’re playing something else but I’d never get together just to play it.
with x wing, would like to see proper rules for a campaign, (been working on my own house rules)
Campaign rules are being released along with the big ships (which are not wave 4 but an extra release in addition to wave 4). We should see the ships and the rules before the end of the year (so early next year when you take into account that this is Fantasy Flight we’re talking about).
So pleased to here your going to games day, cant wait to here all about it,
and looking forward to more 40k coverage in the future, great show guys.
Great show as always guys. Looking forward to more xwing coverage.
Hope to bump into you next Sunday at the NIA, I’ll be the feller with a scowling missus in tow (being clobbered by teenager backpacks turns her into she-hulk).
Keep up the good work.
@Warzan – The sheer volume of books makes it rather daunting to get into the Expanded Universe.. but if you want a nice, safe place to start that isn’t going to turn into a sprawling series.. the Republic Commando series from Karen Traviss (Hard Contact, Triple Zero, True Colors, Order 66 and 501st). It takes something that should have been cool in the movies (the Clone Wars), makes it properly cool, gives it a kind of ‘British Squaddie’ vibe and offers up a much better – and smarter – take on the Order 66 thing. Plus as a parent, I… Read more »
I forgot a word. Nerts.
TRY the Republic Commando series, is what I meant to write.
Cannot agree more Warren, you should read the RC series, and then speak exclusively in mandalorian.
Heh too right. I know that this particular series – and by extension, the fans of the series – got a lot of stick for taking the Mandalorians in a direction that *didn’* exclusively portray them as jedi-murdering scum bags but I’ll hold my hand up here and say that I was very happy with the way Traviss portrayed the Jedi in these books, and how she expanded the Mandalorian culture (and language) into something believable.
My name is Siygess and I am a fandalorian!
thanks for the recommendation, I’m gonna try and get a little down time over Christmas, and these have jumped to the top of my reading list 🙂
I like X wing, great game, I recently tried the star trek attack wing game, which is a variant of the same rules really, and I have to say, I think attack wing is a better game to play – it has more tactical depth- but the miniatures are nowhere near as good, and some are downright awful. Gamesday is at the NIA isnt it? That is where it used to be 15+ years ago, good venue and easy to walk to from New Street Station, but gamesday with no participation games? That seems pointless. Given they also do not… Read more »
Don’t FW give free postage before you reach that amount anyway?
I agree with you on attack wing vs X wing. I personally prefer attack wing but mainly because i’m more of a star trek fan. The pre-paints are not as good on the miniatures and the art work is a bit rubbish. Although I nearly like that about the game. It reminds me of the old star trek series before it was digitally remastered. You have pictures from the series of all the captains and character upgrades.
Anyway, I might like if BOW also had a look at this game and get their opinion.
Are any of you guys trekkies? 🙂
I look forward to seeing 40k coverage again, its nice seeing the other coverage too but it will be nice to see the whole hobby covered rather than just the peripheral ones.
I am happy for the 40k crowd but hope the coverage doesn’t become too heavy. Would like to see the eclectic focus continue to spread. As a bushido player I would love to see it introduced and covered.
Keep up the good work!
Good luck in the tournament. I hope the other players aren’t mean to you on seeing the gleaming helmets of your Germans 🙂
Lol everyone was very kind! 🙂
Good on em! I’m still agonising over how to paint Bolt Action Germans – maybe I’ll go well-polished silver. Thankfully purple’s off the menu – I already did that with my Dreadball Forge Fathers.
Warren try reading ‘Thrawn Trilogy’ by Timothy Zahn (any similarity with my user name is not intended 🙂 )
It was my first book(s) I’ve read from the expanded universe. Simply brilliant. You could also try ‘The New Jedi Order’ series. You will love it!
Good luck Warzan!
Glad to hear you’re going to Games Day would be great to see you guys there. I don’t think that there are no participation games as they talk about them on the GW website, I think they are just getting rid of the tables made by gaming clubs.
I look forward to seeing how you get on at Games Day. Do the BOW team have any plans to visit Warfare in Reading in Nov?
Hopefully bump into you guys at games day and where’s my inheritance update? 😛
I have just started getting into X wing. At the moment it’s ideal to play after my main game on a club night.
Looking forward to the Games day coverage. It would take a lot of improvement to get me to go again though.
Trying to guess who you have coming on as a special guest, surely not M……
Good Luck to you and Dave at the tournie
I’m going to Warfare.
Great show guys! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Games Day (never went to that kind of event but I’d like to someday).
I’m not really into tournament play so I’m intrigued about your performances.
Keep it coming, guys!
@warzan TBH, I think what your sources said was interesting. The higher level person is talking about cost, and the lower level person is talking about experience, and it doesn’t make a huge amount of sense. I think it’s pretty clear, that the higher-ups are framing it as an experience change, when it’s a cost restructure. For instance, Games Day Australia was flat out cancelled. They used to book some of the most expensive real-estate in Sydney to host it, and instead of downsizing, they killed it. And likely because of the drop-out the hobby has had for the past… Read more »
Interestingly, they’ve shuffled development costs into cost of sales, which explains why despite shedding staff and stores (globally) they actually spent $2M more on “cost of sales” compared to the previous year.
REALLLLLY want to know how the GT went!
I wish I could meet with you all at Gamesday.
Rather looking forward to what the BoW team have to say about Games Day as I’m going myself, will be interesting to see if we share common ground on our experiences.
The X-wing stuff looks amazing and why is it that when I was going to go to gamesday but thought I’d go next year everyone is going dagnamit lol so hope you all have fun and great show as always.
