The Weekender: The Return From Salute!
April 19, 2014 by dignity
We're back from Salute and have a mountain of things to chat about! John has popped by this week to show off his Kshatriya from Gundam Unicorn and it looks like one of the most amazing kits of all time! We'll also be announcing the winner of our BoW Goodie Bag from the competition we ran last week at the event!
We'll also be having a chat about what's caught our eye this week in the gaming world and continue to chinwag about Salute last weekend. It was quite the tiring but exciting adventure as always!
Ahhhhh ! I’m waiting for your return !
Happy Week-end, gentlemen !
Absolutely drooled at that battle cruiser 😀
Yeah, the Kum Garage is a piece of kit I’d never want to ask for….
The only bad thing about Salute is there’s too much awesome to fit into one day.
Don’t forget gamer funk, was pretty close in that hall…
Battle cruiser…operational. Hawk Wargames will prolly ruin my bank account because if they really release a space ship game which works well to create narrative battles with DZC I just might have to buy an army and a fleet =D
And [deity] knows I already have stuff to paint for at least a year. But DZC is so…shiny!
Only a year, you need more – grow the hobby stock pile until it becomes a hobby mountain :p
WOW! Any chance we can have a link to where I can buy that Gundam? Amazing Weekender guys, can not wait for Salute coverage.
for that Gundam kit, google hobbylink japan, start there.
Well played, Mastercrated, well played. Their Hellmask helmets are awesome, by the way. I’ve just ordered in the last of the body parts I need to make up a squad of not-Hellghast 😉
Hey Warren, you know what will help you survive the flight to and from Spain? A pair of comfortable, noise cancelling headphones and a good book.
A good.. Star Wars.. book 😉
Drugged hamburger. Works every time.
Don’t forget the pint of that particular milk.
I got the kingdom death pin-ups after you showed them the other week. They are beautiful. Went together well. Had to look online a few times to see how they should look though. No instructions or finished pics in the books. Not for beginners. Glad you guys had a good time. Wish I could have jumped the pond to go. Looking forward to tomorrows show.
Hi Guys. Sorry you missed our “Get to the Chopper” Game. Will get some photos to you today and someone will be in touch about filming a game.
Cheers guys your prolonging my post Salute buzz nicely. Can’t wait for the show coverage
meant to say box..
Never been into Gundam but that kit is spectacular.
I do make plastic kit models though, mainly aircraft, the £100 1/32 scale Tamiya kits , be it the Spitfire, Mustang or the F-16 are amazing quality stuff. That level of detail is too fragile for gaming use, but seeing that level of production tech making it into the wargaming industry it will transform peoples perceptions of big kits.
Warren likes large tanks? Try some of these:

And even artillery!

That Kshatriya is jaw-droppingly good. I’d love to see them take on a Dreaball robot, with it transforming from jack to guard to striker, but I guess wargaming’s a bit niche and Mantic are a bit niche for wargaming (niche squared). Ah well I can dream … or learn to scratchbuild.
Great show fellas!
Mastercrafted isn’t that bad, I still prefer Den of Imagination for freehand sculptors, but I’ll be checking out those guys as well after i move so I have more money to spend.
I should state there is a Mastercrafter painting service who’s not that bad, found them when searching for Mastercrafted.
Great to have my fill of a weekender again. Got plenty to watch over the weekend with XLBS and save the tour for the Monday 🙂
Great show as always guys.
There was a megatonne of things to see at Salute; I loved it! I missed out on ArcWorlde’s stuff though, which I’m kicking myself for as I backed their kickstarter, lol. It would be cool to see you guys talk to Warploque on the designer’s chat videos. @warzan That chapter will be awesome! Will they be a different colour to your famed copper coloured ones? 😛 That Dropzone space game sounds ace! I wondered if that battle cruiser was a hint at something like that. Interesting to hear that Ronnie Renton was behind the Baneblade kits, and how Warpath could… Read more »
Amazing Weekender, so much shiny beauties. And about Gundam, let me just leave this here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLAsH1z8aZs I think Warren should try to go on a crusade to find his perfect Mecha Anime/Manga. I have a few here that might be the ones : Gasaraki ( Yes, let’s just get fucking serious, this a great series with a noir tone, intriguing plot and hardcore animation style. No Chibi, Kawai or Epic named attack, just pure seinen. Give it a try! Hell i want to see it again right now!) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbsVMrfogP4 Getter Robot ( is just a lot more epic-cheese… Read more »
@warzan: all quiet on the Martian front also has a British land iron clad (Thunderchild II) in the works, together with a slightly smaller naval gun tank, and a similarily sized Martian overseer tripod.
This is going to be just great!
Great show guys, I really hope to make it to Salute! one day.
Another brilliant and informative show thanks guys.
Great show. Always been a fan of Gundam kits. Not sure about the kit John has but Bandai kits don’t even need glue. lol ( Though they do come on sprues. )
Bit shocked to see you giving your copy of Myth away. I take it you weren’t too keen on it then. ( Unless of course you managed to get a second copy of it to give away. )
lol Yup Second Copy 😉
Ahha. Well that explains it. 😀
A really interesting video as always. Thank you so much for share Salute with people like me, who cannot afford to travel to UK. I have to agree with Justin, Mutant Chronicles film is great! The OST is incredible! Are you coming to Spain? That´s great! I´d love to meet you in person, but I´m from Madrid and don´t know if I could go to Granada. If you have some spare time, I strongly recommend you to visit Alhambra and the Cathedral… Oh, and the 3rd of May Granada celebrates the “Fiesta de las Cruces”, when the cityzens make crosses… Read more »
@warzan Mate, I would love you forever if you could get some Kum bikes sent my way.
I absolutely agree with Warren here, the more people that get into the hobby, the more it will be able to grow. I myself have been trying to get some of my friends into Warhammer 40k, and recently Warmachine, since I finally broke down and bought a battlegroup. I’m making progress though, add at least 3 to that number in the next few weeks 🙂
The simple fact is: if you’re limiting yourself to just the wargaming industry or, worse still, just a single manufacturer, you are limiting your options and setting yourself up to be price-gouged like there’s no tomorrow. Telling yourself that XXX makes the best kit and therefore there’s no need to look elsewhere is just self-delusional and there’s a 20 quid pair of flush cutters with your name on them… As for this technology coming to wargaming industry… I wouldn’t hold my breath. For example Bandai mech kits, even the cheap ones, had fully poseable rubber joints you could even pull… Read more »
