Weekender: Infamy Miniatures & Exploring The Witcher Board Game!
December 13, 2014 by dignity
Welcome! On this weekends Weekender episode we're going to be having a look at some awesome Infamy miniatures that we've been sent in and taking a look inside The Witcher Adventure Game board game from Fantasy Flight Games!
- Infamy Miniatures
- The Witcher Adventure Game
- How To Play Video & Rulebook Download for The Witcher Adventure Game
As well as that we're going to be taking a look at the Forces of War Company Builder for Flames of War and seeing how it all works and gawping at all the awesome artwork coming your way from Dropzone Commander and their artist Patrice.
The folks at Hawk Wargames are actually running an advent caption competition over on their Facebook page (see above) where you can win an event only miniature!
Have a great weekend of gaming!
Is it sad that every Friday at this time I sit and refresh the BoW mainpage waiting for this to pop up? LOL Thanks for starting the weekend for us guys!
Just glad you guys put this out so early, cheers me up before I have to go work :/ steampunkery is now my word of the day.
Why have Infamy minis and Sam on the show but not both at the same time? Infamy ran a KS in the summer and the pledge manager is currently open. If you missed it and are interested in picking up the minis at a discount then they’re allowing late pledgers to hop on board – http://www.infamyminiatures.com/join-the-kickstarter/. The game should be in beta for the KS backers soon. There is no element X or magic or anything, rather the likes of Nikola Tesla are producing technology further in advance of their real life counterparts. In the setting,
They have a ‘living rulebook’ at the moment, and if you look at the gameplay tag on their site can see some footage of early rules. Uses cards for interesting mechanic that is balanced luck of the draw with how to use what you have, think ’21’.
The stuff on the website is just what we knew from the KS. The “living rulebook” is an open beta rather than truly a living rulebook as there’s an endpoint at which point the rules become fixed and a physical book is released. If people want to get access to it then like I say, it’s not too late to pledge. A £1 get you access to the living rulebook, £15 gets you access and the KS exclusive Tesla mini. £35 gets you access plus three standard-sized minis.
Arcane minis-very nice!
Hawk Wargames-intriguing.
I would have captioned the Praetorian – ‘Yes! I’m having a bad hair day!’
I am surprised that John didn’t mention that while the TOE lists in that book represent the designated structures, in reality units in action were smaller due to casualties, mechanical failures, having to retreat without recovering vehicles that were damaged. Just as an example, at one point the Afrika Korps was down to about 40 operational tanks.
Good points
At one point in 1945 the Russian 6th Guards were down to 6 tanks at one point
Those Infamy minis do look nice to paint… I feel a Romain project of two… or twelve… coming on. Please?
There’s some good ones on you tube from painting budda and there’s a how to DVDs in the post kickstarter for the cavalier rocketeer how think is ment to captin hook
That being said I would love to see what Romain could do with them specialy some of the ones not on here like phantom
I have that book its great when the kids have to find stuff out about WW2 for there History Homework
I ordered the book after watching this, second hand from Amazon for a low, low price. It might be useful as I get into WW2 gaming!
I can’t play with those Infamy minis… sometimes I even break my metal minis.
Good job on hosting the weekender show Ming (sorry, I mean Justin).
Looking forward to XLBS tomorrow morning.
ming you say…. hmmm… think i’ve lost my death ray so i’ll let it slide this time… 🙂
You know there is a free online FoW army builder right? XD
If you mean EasyArmy.com – it is becoming part of this Forces of War so won’t be updated.
Wow, those infamy minis! So glad I backed the KS; they look absolutely stunning!
The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
Good show guys.
John’s book is epic! I love all those TOE and OOB charts. Lloyd says: “There’s not one photograph in this book!” No, sir. That’s called **information!!** This is the kind of thing some (not all) historical players use instead of “lists” and “points.” Doing the best you can to build what was there, irregardless of how many points you have, what minis you have, or what’s allowed in a tournament. This is the kind of book you need to start your research. Looking for this book online now. Thanks for the tangent, @johnlyons . Highlight of the show. 😀
Always find these most useful

Those look pretty good, especially for post-war / Cold War era OOBs. Wish the previews were a little bigger. Then again, for that small price I could try one or two.

This is the other one @oriskany

Yeah, @gladesrunner found them (she comments below). Apparently there’s a whole series of them. 😀
Sorry, the show was a bit of a train wreck, had to switch off, couldn’t watch all of it 🙁
What was the problem? It’s worth feeding back what you didn’t like about it 🙂
What didn’t you like about this show mate? Always open to feedback.
That amount of unboxing on the show was really came off as an energy drain. Some better prep would be to have proper close ups done as short video segments that are brought up as you are talking about them, rather than using the not so amazing close cam. Also, and I hate to say this, but it bugged me about the End Time content a few weeks back, but if you are going to cover a topic on the running order, research it properly/revise the topic. Also, you could do with actually reading up on steampunk as a literary… Read more »
Without wanting to appear too negative, I didn’t enjoy this week’s show as much as usual either. I feel that the Infamy segment was under researched, a quick google reveals they ran a Kickstarter (which is still open to new backers post KS) and that there are a set of rules on the way. IMHO the guys seemed oddly dismissive of the overall Infamy range as well (though this could just be due to their lack of knowledge). The Witcher segment felt a bit disjointed too, a little prep could have allowed this to flow better. Also, a little too… Read more »
Although I enjoyed the show, it did come across to me as though they weren’t really very interested in the infamy miniatures. Which is odd, as they did admit to them being amazing sculpts. The problem wasn’t that it was a case of ‘stunning quality, but not my thing’, but it was more like I got the feeling they’d rather have been somewhere else or doing something else.
It’s great to see the Infamy minis in the flesh, as, it were. I was confident they’d be good, but that good? I may have to embiggen my pledge again
I don’t think my Full English is going to be enough….
I agree
I embiggened it
Oh My God/Goddess/Higher Power of Choice…..
THANK YOU John @johnlyons ! You have managed to find a WWII book @Oriskany not only does not have, but actually agrees is not a waste of ink! You have just made my holiday shopping easier. Long live the Tank God!
Justin, I am the first to say you are often unjustly abused. HOWEVER, the goatee does make you look like a younger Max Von Sydow’s Ming the Merciless.
Uh oh . . . @dignity already pardoned another lesser life form earlier in the thread for calling him Ming. I think that was the limit of his mercy, which means @gladesrunner might get clobbered by the death ray . . . if Ming can find it. 😀
Good show guys. Some lovely minis there. Can’t wait to comment on tomorrows show to get in with a chance of winning Zercsies.
Witcher looks interesting. Hopwever I do think the FFG go overboard on tokens though.
wow. so much dissapoint 🙁 you got hold of some infamy minis but probably the worst of the bunch.. I was so excited, expecting to see the robot chimps …arrrgh and what about the rocket pack dude ..steam punk rocket pirate guy. If these minis were given to you by the company themselves to promote the range they are not playing their best hand that is for sure. Great show as always though.
I think Holmes is one of the best minis in the range. Not the flashiest, for sure, but a beautiful sculpt.
but the chimps are cybernetic 😀
You are right he is fantastic (they are all looking top-notch) but the chimps are cybernetic 😀
Infamy is looking like a top tier mini company. I could see myself giving it a crack painting one of them.
Come over to post kickstarter £3 in and you select add ons including the large scale ons ( think its 50 and 90 mm)
Oh my, if those Infamy miniatures are fragile, mine will probably be a lot more so D:
Great weekender though, really enjoyed it.
Loved the show guys that witcher game looks interesting.
Down with Ming! Long Live Flash Warren!
He He He I’ll make sure I’ll flash next time I’m on the show! 😉
Nooooooooooo, don’t make it a XXXLBS show.
Afterwards we might all need implants of “steampunkery” to restore our vision.
Ming the Weekender host
Hay guys grate show today Ive had any idea and you can tell me to go way but when your doing the un boxing items have you considered having some blue tak to hand for when you’re trying to show how it goes together ? I know you propyl have there a reson you don’t but thought I’d put it up any when
Thanks for showing off the infamy minis I realy carnt what to get my hands on Hyde now and my air brush for the skin
great show guys
Thanks John, just what I needed another WW2 book 🙂 it looked so good I just had to order a copy. The army builder for FoW looks interesting I will have to check in to it.
Witcher looked very good as well.
a bookseller to checkout: http://www.abebooks.com/
I use Amazon market place as well and Abe beats their prices fairly often. Abe also is a better source for the harder to find stuff.
Great show as always guys! I am slightly worried however about how intrigued I was by John’s book (and I’m not even a WW2 but). Loving the seasonal return of Ming too, somehow very festive – well done Justin (on both the hosting and the beard). Looking forward to XLBS already.
