Wayland Games Announce New Game Studio/Publisher
April 16, 2013 by warzan
So a press release has went out announcing that Wayland Games are establishing a new (and separate) Games Studio/Publisher, and have signed a deal with Well Forged Films/Blitz Games Studios to bring a new game HOX to our tabletop.
We have a few little pieces of concept art to keep us guessing, but I'm told by those 'establishing the studio' not to expect anything for some months as the whole thing is still in its infancy.
However that doesn't stop us from doing the customary... Making Demands, Wishlists and Keyboard Warrior threats if the game does not follow our particular whims 😉
Press release below with some pretty cool looking art...
Well Forged Films & Wayland Games to Develop Tabletop Games
Well Forged Films and Wayland Games are proud to announce their partnership to produce a range of tabletop games based on their own original IP.
Their first collaborative project, codenamed HOX, incorporates sci-fi and horror elements to bring an intense and fun game to the tabletop.
Brian Hassan, Head of Film Production, Well Forged Films: “I’m a huge fan of board and miniature gaming, so the chance to work with a pedigree such as Wayland Games is like a dream come true for me. The crossovers between our creative industries are obvious but rarely utilised – with this partnership and with project HOX in particular, we want to bring players the absolute best in tabletop gaming, with a very real game universe, rich in detail and bursting with personality, fantastic story-driven gameplay and of course, a beautifully crafted miniatures series.”
Richard Lawford, Managing Director, Wayland Games Ltd: “I’m super excited to be involved in this project, and I’m looking forward to the collaboration between ourselves and the amazing team over at Well Forged Films and Blitz Games Studios. Work is underway in setting up the studio and finding the best and brightest minds, skills and technologies to be part of this exciting experience.”

Holy crap!!!! This sounds great !
Was wondering if/when Wayland would move into the publishing side of the industry. This is very exciting news
Look at the second picture, its bloody Nosferatu in the shadows!
From the Well Forged Films website: Scientists have been testing a new serum, designed to strengthen the human immune system and eradicate the common cold. Evan and his best friend Jon are two of many on the trials. But what starts as a routine trial, quickly turns in to mayhem when after 24 hours the drug creates an adverse side effect, mutating the H.O.X. gene within all the subjects and turning them into mindless killing machines. Evan and Jon are caught in a race against time to work out how to stop themselves turning into monsters and save those they… Read more »
This sounds more like the plot of a film than the background to a minis game. Will the IP be giving is both?
It looks like Well Forged Films is a film production house, and it looks like this game is based on this same IP so maybe we will get both out of it!
Pass me that serum, I’m fighting a cold as we speak. Oh, no nix that idea. Mutating is bad. Especially if it makes my scrotum grow REAL BIG. I’d be embarrassed to wear my short shorts outside then.
All looking very snazzy. Artwork reminds me of Prototype.

Really excited about this, I’ve been waiting for the film industry to break into this market for some time now. I hope their high quality production values mix well with the miniatures market. These two have quite a lot in common, I’m sure well see some good things from this.
Its such a great time to be a miniature wargamer/hobbyist. So many new games and minis out now and on the horizon, the only problem is finding the time and money to enjoy it all.
No kidding, the advent of kickstarter and indiegogo have no doubt added to this. Not to mention all these entrepreneurs seeing this new war gaming renaissance going on and want to get in on it, like these guys. I just don’t make enough to keep up. Have to separate the wants, from the REALLY wants, lol.
Seriously, aren’t there already enough games.
lol
Thank you, you summed up my thoughts exactly.
Enough games ???? Leave this forum and never return that man. Heresy I say Heresy !!
As for the new Wayland venture many congrats guys looking forward to seeing a lot more.
Has an air of Resident Evil about it if you ask me. I will be watching with an open eye to see what this goes 🙂
With the war/board gaming industry going through the roof (or so it seems), the focus must really be on recruting more players. With this many new games and companies, I can’t see there being enough citizens of Nerd-dom to keep it all going. We can’t rely on GW alone to pull in the punters and swell our ranks.
Hopefully, Tabletop Nation and more ventures like this can grow the hobby too. We’re on the crest of a wave right now – we just got to ride this baby!
I don’t know if it was April 1st this thing would easily be an April fool.
When something when said allowed sounds like ‘hoaxe’, i just hope its a happy coincidence maybe its part of the idea though.
The story sounds like the plot to a british independent short film I saw on the Internet. Basically bootleg gene therapy drugs start causing spontaneous mutations in people with a recessive gene. They then run around killing people. If I rember right it was a protest piece about people by drugs from forign countries and bypassing the goverment controls on medication. Cant rember the title for the lif of me though.
This smells of something awesome, like… roast potatoes! 😀
I don’t know if this will really be of any interest to the community. It’s not like gamers like to hear rumours or to surmise about future releases
My first question is will it by multi-faction skirmish?
The first thing that came to mind was the Herald of Xotli form Age of Conan MMO. HoX lol.

Looks interesting. When do we get more details?
Looks like a clever move, by both. Though the webbing and things in the eggs look real bloody creepy.
Metro 2033 on the table top!!!
