Warmachine’s Convergence of Cyriss Gets Colossal
June 26, 2013 by dracs
What is more dangerous than an army of killing arcane robots? A giant killing arcane robot! And that's just what the Convergence of Cyriss are getting in Warmachine as Privateer Press have revealed their Colosssal, the Prime Axiom!
Here's the info Privateer Press have provided on this latest Colossal to tower over the battlefields of the Iron Kingdoms:
The Prime Axiom inspires awe and fear among the armies of the Iron Kingdoms. The thrum of energy cycling through it is nearly deafening as the machine hovers over the battlefield. Its multiple weapon systems rip through screening troops, dismantle warjacks, and send servitors deep into the heart of battle. To confront a Prime Axiom is to behold the inevitability of the Great Work and the terrifying power made possible by the guiding hand of Cyriss.
The model itself shows off the style which characterises the Convergence, though it has a far bulkier menacing look to it, as one might expect from a colossal. It is interesting that this is the first Colossal miniature to be portrayed hovering above the ground, although I do think the position of the rock in the sculpt looks a little... unfortunate.
Will you be fielding the Prime Axiom?
I can’t get past the rock. Actually, I’d say this is the least impressive of the colosals so far regardless of the rock, but that rock just screws up the composition of the model too much. I sense this is going to be an often modified model.
it will depend on how the rock attaches to the mini if its a cast on part that is also part of the bottom of the colossal then it might be tricky but knowing PP i’d hope that its just an add on that can be left off so that you can drill in some flying stalks, 3-4 should do the trick.

It’s not a rock. It’s poopin’!
Looks very vicious but can it dance?
“Unfortunate” is right… PP went poo-poo on that one.
There were means to support the miniature in other ways, PP did not go down that road.
One more disappointment from PP !
Why didn’t they go with a clear acrylic structure? I’m sure it would have been complicated to support the weight (or at the least, it probably would have to be x-shaped), but even that would look better than that crappy (pun intended) rock.
… or some metal or strong plastic to put in the legs. IMO it’s not often PP really drop the ball but they have with this.
Yes… stronger support from one or two of the legs, from the side, in metal, like they did with the Celestial Fulcrum.
No problem with doing any of that, even with a “foot” looking like some flying rocks. It’s been done by many.
And the rest of the model isn’t that stunning, really, when you compare it to other colossals. The recent miniatures have also pretty much all lacked in originality. I am quite disappointed in Privateer Press, as of late !
I’m glad I’m in good company; I feel the same way! I just stopped buying PP models altogether. As I paint more than I play minis games, I have plenty of Descent modelsI can paint . You know what? Those models aren’t half bad 🙂
No, Descent models are fully bad. Stinky plastic you have to soak for days just to get the smell off. Release agent that doesn’t fully come off so you better use a *great* primer. The new ones are multipart for additional mold lines and come already glued together so it’s harder to clean, prime and paint them unless you cut them apart (D2 heroes). Not to mention the necessary hot water straightening bath because 70% of the models have warped bases. I love Descent and I love painting, but those models don’t help.
The rock is easily replaced.
Other then that i think it is an awesome model. For me PP keeps getting better and better.
As oposed to the Gw guys that pump out one poor model after another
Not so.
Both companies have very uneven releases, these days, even if PP has a better track record.
And as for “easily replaced”… I don’t know about that ! You might have to take a saw to it. or not. We’ll have to see the final model to know for sure.
EIther way, you shouldn’t have to resculpt or repose a model (especially a model that big, meant to be a centerpiece) for it to look decent. or simply not to look like it’s doing “number 2″…
the rock is a separate piece.
Probably an incredibly stupid question, but why can the model not stand upright without the rock, err, bottom?
It’s “legs” aren’t legs. It’s supposed to be hovering over the ground. The legs aren’t actually touching anything.
Hmm. Usability issue there. It looks as if it has legs. The other jacks have legs in the same design, those don’t look like hover pods or such like. It’s like a car with wheels. You expect it to roll, not fly.
Just looks weird. If the rock were not there, I’d love it. A really innovative super walker thingy.
When I said the rhulic colossal was avec Convergence- like jack I did not know that the Convergence colossal would be so rhulic…
It’s seems like the concepts were almost copied and pasted.
I wish the Rhulic colossal looked as cool as the convergence one. ^^
You’re right.
The Rhulic one was just a static 3D render. Hopefully the final model might look more agressive.
It’s just a bit strange. looks like the designers decided ; “Oh well, let’s make quadruped colossals with grapnels for a change” and sticked with this idea with the Rhulic one…
Might have been cool to have a “mining” colossal either with giant drilling and digging tools + guns or a giant mechanical worm-like colossal with a giant drilling tool and fun special rules (burrower, earthquake etc…)
Now wouldn’t it be cool to put large magnets in this to make it literally hover….and tether it with model cables…..
In fact if you put weights in the overhanging legs it may hover and spin on a central magnet….
If you can come up with a way to do that without toppling a ~£90 model every time you move it, I’ll be very impressed.
yeah just seen it from the side and its not quite as balanced as I thought. I have magnets that could prob. do it though. Thing is if I need to tether it may as well model stiff wire and use them to hold it up. Methinks I’ll pop down the shed and make a mock up….then see how confident I am lol.
I reckon wire would be the way to go.
You’d have indeed to use wires to hold it in place, otherwise it’d just fall or turn itself around.
Either that or you’re prepared to make it spin like a crazy top at all times.
tiny strings.
the magnet forces the model up, while the tension of the strings keeps the model from moving where it shouldn’t. in theory.
Colossal itself is interesting looking but that rock ruins it.
Don’t like the aesthetic of C of C and this model just looks far to sci fi rather than steam punk that doesn’t sit well in Warmachine in my opinion.
Just went on the PP website to look at the 3D image and it does look like the rock is separate, well at least i hope so because if not its going to be a bugger to remove. But over all that is one fine looking model.
Either way, you shouldn’t have to change the model for it to look proper…
I think I could completely rearrange the parts and transform it into something even better, but really, is that something reasonable to ask of any modeler ?
Especially at that price!
It is unfortunate that the new faction with the most warjack emphasis has such poor looking jacks and such lovely heavy infantry. This colossal also has one of the worst cases of stomach-face of all warjacks.
I’ve seen the fully built version from my local press ganger and it looks good, I do agree that something else could have been used rather than the poor poo rock, maybe the hull of a dead Khador jack or Cryx since the fluff has them starting trouble with them early on. PP could even have an option to buy a different wreaked hull from different factions to hold it up.
Or a pillar of ‘energy’ made from clear resin/plastic.
