Warhammer The Horus Heresy Boxed Set Age Of Darkness Revealed!
May 9, 2022 by fcostin
The weekend just passed we saw the official launch event for the Horus Heresy Set coming from Games Workshop. Prior to the event, we saw leaks, rumours and mostly panicked players concerned over the hearsay that the box would be a hefty price.

Now, players have confirmation of all! Well... vaguely. But, Warhammer has released exactly what to expect for the upcoming Boxed Set for Horus Heresy, which will title Age of Darkness.

If the counting images beforehand made your eyes fuzz up, you'll be happy to know of the confirmation that there are roughly four squads of 10 Beaky Boys, 10 Cataphractii Terminators, 2 Legion Praetor models, one tanky Contempotor Dreadnought (which can be built in many different ways), a Spartan Assault Tank kit, and finally everything you need to get started. Which will include rules, measurement tools, dice and transfers. All models are being prepared for launch in plastic.

Alongside the announcement of the contents, Games Workshop did confirm their price (sort of). I expect after the internet was up in arms about the potential £250 price tag that was circulating. However, Warhammer has confirmed that the box will cost players "less than £200". Which is a wonderful price considering the amount that comes in the box.
Do not feel the need to purchase this box as soon as it's released, as we will not be running into any limited-edition releases. Although we have no release date nailed down just yet! As the box seems to be a fantastic Starter Set for the upcoming title, they would be bananas to take this off the shelves.
If you wanted to take a closer look at the whole contents of the box, be sure to head over to the Warhammer Community for a full scope of images and info on the upcoming set, announced at Warhammer Fest.

The spine on that rulebook is very, very thick! I followed the reveals, and even though I will not be playing the game, I will get one box of the new Mark 6 armour and one or two of the weapon upgrades. I will wait until the new M3 and M4 armour comes out before buying, because I prefer the proportions of the new M6. Otherwise I might go to Tortuga Bay miniatures and get some truescale bodies from them.
Those mk3 and nk4 armours are just a re-release of the old figures in new boxes, they aren’t being rescaled.
That is right. That is why I will wait until the new ones come out that are proportionally more in line with the new M6 – if they make new versions that is! The Cataphracti Terminators are also the old models from the Calth box set.
it’s the other way around …
the new beakies are in scale with these mk3 and mk4 bodies
that’s why the weapon sets work for all of them
From one comparison photo I have seen online, they are slightly taller – this is taking into consideration the crouched poses of the M3 and M4. I could be wrong but that is the impression I get. Time will tell, but I do prefer the new workings of the M6 sculpts. So if new M3 and M4 sculpts come out I will get them.
I also hope they bring out the Mark 5 first tbh.
I didn’t think there was much difference to be honest, but I could be mistaken.
We’ll see a better comparison of them when they’re all out I suppose.
They did say it would be released in June, so not that long to wait.
Well it’s nice that it isn’t limited release so that there is no FOMO.
I’ll wait for all the hipe an die hard fans to swarm before doing anything not even had a proper look at the box contents.
That price depends on where you live in Canada that about 400 not really inexpensive.
Not including tax
So “less than £200” then…..
Why couldn’t they just say £199.99?
It’s certainly a big box and probably “good value” at the price it comes , however as I got heresy fever when Betrayal came out , I’m already set as have both the calth set, prospero set and a resin Spartan … and mostly all to build so I’m set … I’ll be after a box of beakiea though , weapons set and that new tank !
Stil hoping that in the coming months following the release they will start release additional bits / sprues to custom your minis to be chapter specific – like what they did with the Primaris kits.
I want some MKIV Night Lords that have more than just a themed shoulder pad.
Is it still using the 7th ed based rules or is this a reset and step it over to join 8th/9th style?
