Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online Trailer
June 16, 2010 by warzan
So here it is guys the trailer for Dark Millennium Online, the Warhammer 40K MMO by Vigil Games.
Certainly impressive looking (from what we can see in the trailer), and looks like there is loads of scope for all the factions to make an appearance at some point.
The debate thats raging in here is just what will this do to the table top game. Dawn of War had little effect on the number of tabletop players, in other words it didn't hurt the hobby and may have given it a little bit of growth. However as many of your gaming clubs will know, World of Warcraft caused quite the exodus, where wargamers (more accurately gamers who love the fantasy genre) lost their time for the hobby because they whiles the hours away chasing rabbits and giant spiders.
So now were looking at the possibility for 40K players to get their fix of the 40K universe in what could be an even deeper experience (if it has any of the stickiness of World of Warcraft), how do you think this will effect the tabletop aspect of the hobby?
So have at it guys, take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think of the game (so far) and how it might effect the tabletop game going forward.

It might also attract new members to the hobby. While the Dawn of War series are popular, I don’t think it has the following a good MMO has. I don’t think it’ll cause a(nother) mass exodus from table top to MMO though. Most people suspectible to that are probably already playing one MMO or another. But time will tell. 🙂 I’m looking forward to more information on the gameplay, especially how they intend to balance fluff powerlevels versus gameplay powerlevels. Fluffwise a Space Marine character would be far more powerfull than, say, an Imperial Guard character, but it obviously wouldn’t… Read more »

Seems like it’s Order vs Destruction, like Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Not much on the site yet, looking forward to more.
I nearly made a girly mess when I saw that Titan.. Now when someone makes a good new epic scale RTS using 40k I’ll be camped outside the game shops (or even a mod for supreme commander would do)
I’ve was a world of warcraft player for 4 years, recently quit and going cold turkey so the idea of signing up to any new one is a no-no. Love Dawn of war 1 and 2 but yearn for tanks, titans etc
It’s looking impressive alright. My own opinions on it are mixed though. The idea of a MMO where users can pick to be a Space Marine right from the off makes me uneasy. In the established fluff, there are roughly 1,000,000 Space Marines (1000 chapters of 1000 marines each) in a population of trillions of trillions. Why would anyone chose to be a standard Imperial citizen when they could be a Space Marine? Similar to @redemption, I’m also worried about game balance. Taking a max level Space Marine, how will he compare to a max level Imperial citizen? But on… Read more »
I could imagine that being an Imperial citizen would allow for more flexibility – you could join the ‘Guard, go rogue, etc, whereas being a Space Marine would limit your options.
Last I heard in an interview, you couldn’t be a Space Marine right off the bat. No word on how you get to be one, but right now you can’t start as one (though that could change between now and release)
Now I have to choose between this and EVE: Online, FUUUUUUUUU-
this game is not coming out for a good few years.
I am kinda peeved at the order v. destruction thing… I know its unrealistic, but it would have been nice to see a semblance of racial factions ie: Imperium, Eldar/Tau, Chaos/dark eldar and so forth, with the added bonus of orks just being able to attack ANYTHING, even other orks!… the potential for griefing is extreme… but my counter point to that is WAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHH!!! *choppa to ‘ead face ov ‘ovur-finkin ‘umies!*
I am waiting for Vigil’s unveiling in a few weeks before getting too invested in this.
It doesn’t look like theres gonna be a lot of races to choose from… just Imperials, Orks, Chaos and maybe Eldar… Yawn*
TItans… Oh i’m loving this already!
This game looks awesome!!!
looks good but I hope theres more races than just Marines,Chaos, and Orks
They are going to start off we a small group of races and build up. Expect four or six starting races.
looks good for an mmo lets see if its f2p. Regarding the description I think it will be a good thing because its like advertising where they pay you (gw that is).
think its time to update my pc XD
I’m sure if your wanting to play a Marine you’ll start out like all Marines and do time as a Scout first. You’ve got to EARN that armor!
think it’s safe to say i’ll be getting this and bashin sum ‘eadz wif a big choppa
umm omg that was a lot of eye candy…. ok time to wipe up the drool and say something. the game looks very impressive yes but the 1 thing that a game could ever replace the feeling of putting together your own armory and personalizing it and then playing it against some 1 ells on the table face to face. this game may pull some people away fora while but eventually they will come back.
as long as it dnt have go get quests im good
and i dnt want to have to buy weps aswell but that one will never happen
