Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition Gets a Release Date?
June 11, 2012 by brennon
Most of you will have probably seen this by now, but if you haven't been able to catch it here is the First Teaser above for Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition from Games Workshop which reveals a release date?
So there you have it, a date announced potentially? Has this got you waiting with baited breath or are you taking a more cautious approach to this new edition?
Let's get your thoughts on this as always below!

This will not be the release date, its just the date that it’s going to be revealed. White Dwarf is due out on the same day. Expect to be able to pre-order from 23rd, with release on the 30th or 7th depending on how they do it, I hope its the 30th cause I’m getting married on the 7th and I don’t think the other half will be best pleased if I’m nipping to my local Games Workshop o the way to the church!
Got a feeling you might be in for an awkward reception. Still you’ll find it’s important to set the tone of a marriage early on and if you’re off down GW on your wedding day then no future tournament or convention will ever be as bad. 🙂
Ask your best man to drop by and get it for you. He can always say he had lost the rings and got to find them!
😉
August 4th for me. Hope I can convince her that this will be a “good” investment. Most likely it will require lots of prayer my fellow brothers.
@purdy trust me go for the wedding, GW divorced me some time back and took all I own in the pending settlement. 😛
Thats what the best man is for!
The burning question about 6th edition I have is…are the starter sets going up to £65 or £70? 😉
Does it come with another price adjustment ??
Why not the Space Marines battleforce price level? £80!
Anyone heard what the price for the big rulebook will be?
I would think that the safe bet regrading price would be to look at Fantasy, that went up to £45 when 8th released, I suspect 40K will be the same.
However, I will say that the Fantasy book is huge, you do actually get more ‘book’ for the extra money, so its not a price rise for the sake of it thing, I’m very much expecting 40k to be 600 pages and the same £45.
And £75 for the special limited edition one, of course.
Cool thanks – had heard the new book has more fluff in, so happy to pay more for more
I suspect this will be a pre-order date, but I could be wrong kinda depends on what other trailers we see, as they obviously plan on more. As for expectations, I want it to be good but believe it will have the issues that have hounded recent releases – ambiguety, balance issues and destruction of established fluff. In which case I may not even buy it. If it goes the way of fantasy, the rules will make the game more dynamic at the cost of tournament play. I like the current fantasy system, but it has major issues in my… Read more »
Games from GW always had a«storytelling» side and I think they’re trying to emphasize this. They want poeple to enjoy themselves, not argue about the rules. That’s the main reason I play their games, in fact.
I wonder what’ll be in the starter kit. I know the armies you get in them, but I wonder what’ll be inside. Anyone expecting GW to release limited edition blast templates & dice & other daft little things they expect to sell with the 6th edition?
@Happybowler, the dynamic feel is why I like the 8th, makes for a fun flowing game as opposed to the very precise and accurate manover focused previous edition.
I hope 40k follows suit. However as a system for competive play its sub-standard and if that follows into 40k I can see a lot of upset tournament players, and they are the guys that will switch armies and spam units – therefore buy more models.
Anyway thats off topic, I wonder when the next trailer will be
All rumours I have heard for the starter is Chaos v Deathwing- inc a chaos Dread and possibly ravenwing bikes, maybe cultists and a while back I did hear plague bearers.
I am sure they will release a whole raft of unnecessary crap and market it as essential 😛
Thanks! Let’s wait & see what appears in terms of overpriced bitz ‘n’ bobz & other junk with the 6th edition! 😀
Do we have any information about how well 8th WFB actually did? I’ve heard conflicting reports, some LGS owners tell me 8th was a flop because of the ridiculous rules price and just general increase in the price of everything. Others tell me it’s sold just as well as the previous edition. I know that GW’s quarterly reports showed revenue gains over last year, but were those gains increased sales figures or largely the result of their annual price increases? How many times can GW increase their prices beyond the rest of the industry before their customer base literally runs… Read more »
I have heard that it maybe some time from the annoncement to the actual release date I’m talking months not weeks has anyone else heard any rumours like this.
I haven’t heard that, but I doubt it’s true. They already removed the 5th ed. rule book from their online catalog. I doubt that GW would risk losing months worth of new player sales during one of the better times of year for mini sales. I would expect the rulebook to be available mid-July simply because announcing it and not having it would really adversely effect GW’s revenues for their first quarter of this fiscal year. I think it makes more sense for them to release the update in the first quarter, let players figure out what they need to… Read more »
2 weeks at most after offical announcement I would say. Months would be nonsensical and go complete against the stated policy of announcements only when you can pre-order the product, never been more than 2 weeks since this started.
Big question is when the starter box will ship
GW always seem to do a major release just around my birthday in September, which is great for me but not so great as we will have to wait a couple of months after the reveal to get our hands on it. I think the main reason they release around September is due to Games Day as it gives them a chance to show it off at the show and tell people all about it. Our gaming group has just took some new members on and has only just finished getting them up to speed on the 5th edition rules… Read more »
Yeah September would be the norm but with rumours of a 25th Anniversy edition Blood bowl box I think it might change. As with 40k 6th ed starter, Bloood bowl and whatever the hobbit release gets that is looking like a lot of boxes in one year, especially if none of them see light til September. I cannot see GW wanting to put them out in competition with each other
What!? A Special Blood Bowl edition!? That’s my favorite game! It’s the one wich brought me into the hobby, actually. Can’t wait to see it!
(Ok, I know, subject closed, we’re speaking of 40k here.)
😉
Apparently limited release with 4 special teams in the box, Chaos All Stars would be awesome (All rumours of unverfied legitimacy) Any hoo quickly back to topic Tanks, big guns, grim dark etc. Seriously though I never understood why box games got released after the school holidays, I know its normally a Games Day thing but have been keytime there is so much stuff a store could run over the holidays that keys off a starter box, and would help shift the things – buy this and over the next 6 weeks we will be doing ……. translates to keeping… Read more »
September would fit with what I was told. We don’t have long to wait to find out for sure.
40k 6th Ed Announcement date is 23rd June 2012. Release date is 30 June 2012.
This is based on the fact that it has been widely known that the new edition will be released in June. Also WD is usually out on the last Saturday of the month. 23rd is not the last Saturday, therefore the N/R info will be in WD 23rd June and the 40k Release will be the following week hence WD release being brought forward by one week.
Also this now ties in with GW’s new policy of having major summer releases aimed at their target audience of school kids. 8th WHFB was a summer release, as will be 6th 40K.
It is fair to say that we are all waiting for this new rule set and I have stop buying models and putting new ones together waiting on this release was wondering if anyone else has done the same?
Im not buying anything new anyway but have a fair amount to stay painting while I wait
Has anyone else noticed the mysterious disappearance of the 5th edition rulebook from the Games Workshop store?
