Are Vindicators Good or Bad?

Darrell has pulled out the big guns, but he's not a big fan of them.

I’d take a predator or something else every time. If you’re going to take them they’re probably best taken in a group of 2 or 3, but I think they’re too easy to neutralize as Darrell says. Also the extra 12 inches a medusa siege cannon has makes a big difference.
Any Excuse to get Arjac in a video!
Yes true but it doesn’t make Vindicators any better. Arjac is in to prove a my point that vindicators are a silly vehicle
Honestly Vindicators are more of a show piece, having a few of them lined up might intimidate someone who hasn’t fought them before, but other than that I agree, pointless vehicles
What about taking the venerable sergeant chronus in the hot seat?
40K is dead… this is the age of Infinity baby! 😀
40k is never dead !!!! age of infinity is cool but the world has room for more than one game at a time . i play both so this is cool
Vindicators are terrible, they get knocked out by every roll on the damage chart
Surely these would be just the ticket against a horde army, orks or nids?
Isn’t it all about the right tool for the job?
Or is Darrell a right tool 😉
I dont think vindicators are a bad choice. I use them quite a lot in my games. The first thing is, that they are relatively cheap and their gun scares a lot of people. They are usually dead by turn three, but most of the times they pay for themselves. They give your oponent two choices, either they shoot at them a lot or they ignore them. And no, ignoring S10 ap2 ordnance is not a good idea. So yes I basically field them as distraction and threat. I move, pop smoke and then just hope my oponnent will fire… Read more »
na man the games dead, time to move on to better games and let GW die!!!!!!!
40K is not dead. But it is too expencive for a person with a family. If the cost of this game keeps going up like it is, GW will end up killing themselves off.
so you cant afford it that means its dead, time to move on to a cheaper game
GW may put their prices up fairly often and get a lot of stick for it, but they’re still the biggest and most popular gaming company going, I’d hardly call that dead by any means.
Prices go up, a few people may drop out and go to other systems, but all those other companys wish they were GW.
If GW is dead then I don’t know which shop I went into tonight to play a game of 41st milennium warfare, which must be the new name for the game. Please point out a tabletop wargame that has the same filtration into the market as the ‘dead’ company.
Please find me a chain of stores dedicated to playing Infinity and Warmachine/Hordes in the UK…
As a matter of interest does the bulldozer blade provide any extra to the front facing armour please?
Also could they not be used as rolling close support artillery moving behind troop units?
hi Chibi…. no they do nothing for armor… it allows you to auto pass dangerous tests. I unfortunately did buy one right away too. I used it at first, but I think I got one turn in my first game with them before my regular group guys learned how to deal with it. You could use it as rolling artillery support… but if it moves you can’t subtract the BS from the roll I do believe. So becomes pretty inaccurate and since the armor is the same as the Predator it dies just as easy. I think they have their… Read more »
dangerous terrain tests…. wouldn’t it be nice to auto pass dangerous tests in general… 5+?!?!… I auto-pass that… 😉
Actually a twin linked railgun has a 25% chance of doing something to AV13 vehicle.
But than, any vehicle would die to enough railguns, but that does not make vehicles bad.
Moving does not make blast inaccurate, shooting indirectly does this (but vindicator is not capable of indirect fire anyway)
Yes it is competing for heavy slot, but usually only with preds, land riders or rifle dreds.
If you think that you will take vindicator, rush towards your enemy and kill lot of stuff with it than yes, you wil be dissapointed
Vindicators can fire indirectly. They’re also very good at rushing the enemy and killing lots of stuff. They’re also great at distracting the enemy from my battle brothers just before they move in for the kill. Yes, I use three Vindicators and I always lose one per game and never more. But that’s just expected. They’re the only unit I have that consistently makes it’s points in kills.
They cannot fire indirectly.
Ahhh.. math hammer. 😀 I wish I could have a game as good as math hammer. 😉 Thanks for correcting me on the moving and shooting. I had to live with the ruling that a vindy was indirect fire… before the errata, way back when. It’s been that long since I used a vindy seriously. I guess considering I (used to) run Preds and Dev squad in Razorback, with Razorbacks and more razorbacks backed by TL AC dreads and Speeders. Just my style of play I guess. Overaal point I guess was for someone prepared to deal with armor, Vindy’s don’t… Read more »
Thank you for the responses
I might try out a rolling support (with a proxy in friendly game) I usually end up as a mop with the oppo wiping the floor with me so I may as well try something out! lol
I agree with Tinracer and Jade, Darrell isn’t exactly playing to the Vindicator’s strengths in this video although he did show a good technique with regards to obtaining cover saves. I would class the Vindicator as a “big shiny”, something your opponent finds threatening and can’t take his eyes off. You must play accordingly. They have the same armour value as Predators but appear to be weaker because they draw a lot of fire and subsequently die faster. I play Blood Angels and am really spoilt for choice when it comes to anti-horde and anti-armour options but this is where… Read more »
The 24″ range is countered by the fact that the tank can move 6″ a turn without really reducing it’s effectiveness. I see them as a great terror weapon, the prospect of one of them pie plating is something to draw fire away from more vital parts of your army.
The may have a limited capabilities…. but I can still remember the day that glorious template landed on those nob bikers and 6 of them failed their cover saves. Ahhh, so sweet….
I think that was a fairly silly video, Darrell. I don’t want to sound like a hater, but this is pretty unreasonable.
Who out there is shooting their vindicators at single models that have eternal warrior and a 3++ save? Come on, Darrell… Isn’t that like saying that Vendettas are crap and trying to prove it by shooting at grots?
I agree with this completely.
Also, consider against orks, or other hordes of footslogging where things will die.
Also, it is useful against a monolith as str10 plus 2d6 pick the highest gives a better chance of damaging it than with a melta, lascannon or anything else. It is also effective against any vehicles you face thanks to he fact its both str10 and ordnance,
It also moves 6″ before firing so has the equivalent of a 30″ range.
Does anybody not know that Templar Vindicators can have Machine Spirit?
Like most shooting in 40K, it comes down to who has the first turn.
Vindicators are not bad, but do suffer from glass cannon syndrome.
I see where you’re coming from with the first shooting phase having a big influence, but there are ways to counter that, you can put your vindicator into reserve and then when it comes on it’s always gonna fire when it arrives (as long as the opponent is in your half of the board)
Here is what the vindicator needs: Rear armor 13, A choice of rounds to fire like ignores cover or pinpoint.
Did any body know that the M1a1 version tanks have a shotgun shell with a slew of steel ball berrings that when fired can cut down a forest? The Vindicator needs that round.
