Urban War Shows off Some Close Combat Maestros
April 19, 2012 by brennon
The Neo-Iskandrians for Urban Mammoths Urban War have now got some powerful close combat warriors. Check out the 3D sculpts of the models below and see what you think...
This warrior wields a power sword with a built in carbine, yes its a Gunblade! The model has been crafted entirely in 3D allowing them to speed up the process of model making for the game. I like the sleek look of the armour and the defensive pose, as if he is waiting for an enemy to land on him. Makes them look stalwart and immoveable, yet deadly.
Will you be donning your power armour and joining these guys?

kinda looks like a tooled cyber-man. very cool.
I like these guys a lot .
Although, I think Cylons or the Italian version of Ironman, every time I see them.
If that’s a gunblade, where’s the gun?
They use energy weapons I think so the blast probably gets channelled along the blade – must look like they all have Stargate staff weapons (which is always cool). These are shaping up very nicely, perhaps still a little too close to that Romanesque Junker style for me but well modelled. I’d like to see a little extra detail added to the belt armour plate like raised areas or power cell-style shapes for more definition, but the overall look is really good.
Ah ok, makes sense then. After looking closer the back end of the weapon has what appears to be shaped charges sticking out of it. Would be cool if those could be used as a two-shot RPG.
If this is the quality that the minis will come close to and they end up being plastic, I can see myself picking some up. I like the helmet and backpack the best from this.
Well given that all the other minis are metal…
Why do people keep asking for injection-moulded plastic for skirmish games when it’s so expensive to set up (so for skirmish sized forces you can’t spread the cost attractively) and loses detail due to needing to eliminate undercuts?
Like the pose and the scale of the model .. doesnt seem to be the GW heroic style scale. Looking at earlier releases this looks to be an uneven range though, quality-wise.
So thats supposed to be gunblade. It was only matter of time for FF weapons to start creep into miniwargames. Now all we need is dog launcher.
