New Tyranids & Space Wolves due in March
February 23, 2012 by brennon
You heard it right, another leak of White Dwarf reveals that the releases for Games Workshop in March will be for both the Tyranids and Space Wolves. Check out some of the scans below...
Not only has the long awaited Thunderwolf Cavalry finally made it out into the hobby-verse but a bunch of other Fenrisian delights. Plenty of wolves and recast heroes on top of other Space Wolves to bump up your forces of The Fang. Even Darrell's favourite Arjac Rockfist is ready to go.
On the Tyranid front is plenty of new gribbly monsters. New huge Tyrants and Swarmlords guarded by many more of the swarm. The massive beast is the Tyrannofex/Tervigon mix, ready to either disgorge a slick mass of gaunts or blast their way through your terrified infantry.
On top of all the Warhammer 40,000 releases the Hellcannon is getting a revamp ready for your games of Warhammer. The real question however is just which of the two Sci-Fi armies are you going to plump for?

FINALLY!
Still no sign of a Mysetic Spore!
Ah well, i can now make my tervigon list! Now to get a bucket to put all my ‘gants in!
This is what I plan on using:- http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=21
Thats intresting news indeed. How ever in my opinion Tau and Eldar need update more than nids.
Tau and Eldar may need a codex update, but ‘Nid players have been without models for some of the most important units for over 2 years.
Hardly not as bad as being without some of the most important rules for over two editions (not to be taken literally).
Hang on, would that be a double negative? Hardly as bad, hardly not as bad. I think my usually fairly good instinct on what sounds more correct is failing me this time.
I’m just gonna go with No frikkedi frokkin’ way that’s as bad…
Can i haz cheeseburger?
What rules are you missing? I can understand that the Eldar codex isn’t the most competative codex out there, but hey, I think most ‘Nid players would say that about their codex. It’s probably the worst codex out of the 5th edition codexes in terms of external and internal balance. Don’t take me wrong, I believe the Eldar really deserves a new codex, and if the rumours birds are right, they will probably get a 6th edition one in ’13. But which really is worse? Having an old codex with some outdated rules, but that does have models for most… Read more »
There coming as well, just not as soon as this. Rumors have it that the Eldar may be in the starter set for six.
The Nids have been waiting a while for this wave, the sad thing is there is more they will be waiting for.
And now the Space Wolves have a full range options. One more thing out of the way that clears it for Tau and Eldar. Also the wolves players have waited for this.
I see the future…there will be an unboxing of Arjac…and Darrell will dub him Arjac Bubblefist…and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth… 😉
I wonder if those Fenrisian Wolves will be reused for Goblins later?
Unofficially, I see lines forming to convert them to goblins by players, i also see Undead players that don’t like the current Dire wolves also lining up to buy the Fenrisian wolves for convertions.
I see my self buying many of them for charging screens.. and a riders of Fenrius apoc game.
Officially, if Gee Dub see the sets selling like that, they will then either, remake a set for goblins and hobgoblins, (including riders with recut wolves) or fallow suit and make a box set for them.
The best bit is the termagant being birthed by the tervigon!
Bullet proof mounts?
HE-MAN!
That picture from White dwarf could easily be from the 80s
They all look great, these are my two favourite armies in 40k so I’m very happy. I like that they made the wolves look different to Canis as they make him look more heroic and imo they lok better, more dynamic like those gorgeous fenrisian wolves. Looking at the wolves I cant help but imagine goblin wolf riders on them. This is going to be a great year for 40k.
I know everyone prob loves ’em but Space Marines riding giant wolves?.. come on now, it’s all getting a little out of hand.
I was thinking the same thing. After all is should be giant bears or velociraptors that shoot ninja stars that the marines ride into battle on!
chaos marines should have my little ponies, pink ones with sparkles
I like the wolves mini but in a future with tanks, artillery and devestating weapons it doesnt make any sense- yes i know its sci fi but a token nod to reality would be nice
a nice selection of minis having said all that
I love the idea of wolves being ridden into battle or my preference would be a battle bear Love these animals It does become a problem when the rider is a one ton Space Marine in PA on a poor doggy’s back! lol These do look big enough, but why would you want to ride a mount that is going to be bounding and bouncing around as it charges making hitting anything with your plasma pistol nigh on impossible (Ok with a lucky dice roll it is feasible lol) Personally I would want to charge on something that is a… Read more »
Battle bears? 🙂

Well it fits with Space Wolves theme and history as well has fluff. It might be a little over the top, but this is what sets the Wolves apart form the other chapters. Wolves as large a rhinos.. there is no wolves on Fenirus.. the Wulfen.. You don’t have to like them, you don’t have to buy them.. but when you face a fellow Space Wolf Player, offer to buy a Drink at the end of the game.
II think I recall already posting that I won’t be purchasing Lupus gigantans 😉 Now it may well be fluff but is imho silly fluff. I am not saying I dislike them entirely, just that I understand the criticism. The concept doesn’t sit comfortably with me when a jet bike is a far better option for getting around a battlefield I can’t help bring a certain amount of realism to these things. The way wolves run would not make them a good mount if you want to fire when moving as I understand it. You may wish to ignore that… Read more »
The big ‘nid is pretty cool, the Thunderwolves are better than I expected though packed in 3s means you’ll have one left over from a full unit from two boxes which is a bit anoying but not really a problem, the Fenrisian wolves, I see as more of a filer unit to take the last 100 or so points if there’s nothing else you need, but the models are quite nice, even if they are on the wrong shaped bases and the gobbos are missing…
No one seems to like the idea of Thunderwolves Poosh
At least the beasts are of adequate size and look like decent poses
Not too keen on the concept tbh but is just a personal thing.
Won’t be getting any for my SW army which is unlikely to ever see the dark of grim
The Nids don’t really impress me
the guns and swords thing is just not right imho
Would prefer something organic forming from their limbs
allocating funds now for a preorder on the 25th 🙂
No one has noticed the Harpy in the main battle picture then!!!!!
Looks more of a conversion, but lets hope I’m wrong.
the wings are too good to be a conversion, with the guns at the ends especially.
Isn’t that just the plastic tyrant kit? Assuming you get plastic wings etc, ?
It’s a flying hive tyrant, you can see it better here: http://i.imgur.com/mofk5.jpg
I’m not that keen on the idea of the Thunderwolf Cavalry myself either, but I think they’re a solid unit in the game. The Fenriasian Wolfs are really nice and will most likely be excelent alternative models for Warriors of Chaos hounds or coversion material for something else. I thinkt we’ll be seeing these and maybe the Thunderwolves as part of various conversion projects in the future.
The Tyranid Tyrannofex/Tervigon looks a little funny with the big hind legs but it has some detail, like the bursting sack with the Termagant. Good material for converting.
The hind legs are cues to the Hierophant biotitan, a fact I can appriciate to make it look consistent. 🙂
anyone else notice that hive tyrant with that serpentine tail, could be nice for a harpy conversion methinks ??? 🙂
There are rumours for a Harpy model in the works, which is said to be pretty big and on a flyer stand. Of course, don’t let that stop you from converting. 🙂
What might also be cool is to use the flying Hive Tyrants tail and hind legs to make a walking Tyrant or the Swarmlord seem like he mid-jump.
Its about frackin time!!!!
Those GW bastiches….they keep pulling me back in……I was going to leave the Wolves…..I had finally decided. But these Thunderwolves are too pretty.
Quite liking all of the Tyranid models and I suppose it is finally time for me to buy a new Hive Tyrant model when the new kit is released as my old 2nd ed ones are just looking so out of place now when a tyranid warrior is the same size as them. Still might use my old ones as Tyranid Primes though.
Although a lot of people will disagree with me, I love it when there’re some units in a codex without models. It encourages players to make there own stuff… Come on, think about all those nice home-made swarmlords & tervigons! When this will happen for all codexes… I’d probably wouldn’t love the hobby as much as I do now. That’s why I play WoC in fantasy, ’cause I love making my own warshrines etc…
Not to mention the one thing that’s for sure: these are gonna be really expensive.
One problem with the home made models is the size of them. I know plenty of ‘Nid players made the Tervigon and Tyrannofex out of the Carnifex kit, which is much smaller. Now suddenly all that hard work is invalid in tournaments as they would be ‘modeling for advantage’ or something. And people making a Harpy out of the Flying Hive Tyrant are probably in for the same trait if the real Harpy is going to be released. It seems ‘Nids are going to be the Army of the Oval Bases at this rate. 🙂 As for prices, the prices… Read more »
‘modeling for advantage’
thats why i feel true line of sight sucks…interesting figures become an issue
@raggburr Couldn’t agree more. Got my own WoC warshrine made from a VC corpse cart and it was just so cool to putting it together and thinking what else I could use to Nurglefy it.
But I do like those Nids now. It might even encourage to finally paint up my stealers from battle for macragge and start my own hivefleet leviathan.
Too bad I already spent my birthday money on Infinity. Ah well, that’s what overdrafts are for.
I love that they have finally made the swarmlord model so we don’t have to get four boneswords and convert two of them so good on GW
Woooah wait a minute. It’s great that people are happy but…. why praise GW for bringing out a Codex with various units with NO MODELS and making you wait 2/3 years for the actual models to be made …. Good on GW for doing something they should have done 2 years ago?
for me i only like the Tervigon the rest i have seen better conversions for and i prefer the homemade stuff that i saw before this.
Tervigon is a day 1 purchase for me, looks great. Tyrannofex looks sooo much better than the picture in the codex, especially with the flesh borer hives.
i dont think ill be buying the thunderwolf cav as i think its just a stupid idea(fluff) and lets face it wasnt in the older codexs which i still have.i do quite like the wolves so will most likey get a box or two. as for the nids im planning on starting them so so the new plastic hive nid/swarmlord and tervigon/tyrannofex are both going on my wish list
They left out the winged Hive Tyrant, I’m quite surprised
Already have Mr Dandy wolves so wont bother with the thunderwolves, but like the look of the fenrisians, they look far better than the old goblin wolves. Good stuff!
*crosses fingers and hopes that none of the Tyranids are Finecast*
The Tervigon/Tyrannofex and Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord kits are in plastic, the other ‘Nid releases are Finecast. See this forum thread at the end of the news post for full details and price information:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/news-rumors/forum/topic/gw-releases-for-march/
apart from the tervigon/tyrannofex kit and the hive tyrant/swarmlord kit the rest are all metal models going into finecast 🙁
The bonesword and bonesword/lashwhip upgrade sprues are new though, and they are in resin (like the barrier and basing kits) instead of Finecast.
Here’s a couple of kitbash tervigons that my son and I made up last year… Apart from the scale, the look is pretty close 🙂
