There’s A Storm Coming To The Ash Wastes For Necromunda
April 27, 2022 by avernos
Games Workshop has been ramping up the previews ahead of the release of the new Necromunda: Ash Wastes over on the Warhammer Community pages. The latest of which is a close-up look of one of the new Ash Wastes Nomads, and with the creepy critter he's bounding around on they probably could have stayed a bit further away!
Necromunda Ash Wastes Stormcaller // Games Workshop
The Stormcallers, also known as the Wy'tari, are the mystics of the Ash Waste Nomads. Summoning raging storms to mask their movements or to trap their targets these mystics lumber throughout the wasteland leading war parties to pillage the convoys travelling between the hives. The helamite mounted Stormcaller helps the Nomads to exploit their greatest strength, the element of surprise, by allowing the raiders to close unseen by the convoy's lookouts.

Armed with an archeotech stave that looks like a blend of cattle-prod and mancatcher the Wy'tari has clearly seen plenty of action as both he and his helamite mount have a prosthetic limb, and a garland of skulls taken as trophies from previous raids adorns the creatures carapace.
The sculptor has done a great job capturing the look of the artwork of this Them riding mystic. We don't know if whatever is under all of that cloth is man, woman, mutant, or alien. But it is safe to safe that the Inquisition need to lead a purge into the Ash Wastes because uncontrolled pyskers are bad, and uncontrolled pyskers riding giant fleas are so much worse!
Will you be breaking out the bug spray?

I was going to buy Ash Wastes… but second thoughts now… RRP is £180, so even with the usual 20% discounts from online sellers it’s still £145 ish.
Admittedly it’s two gangs, two gang expansions (mounted) and some nice terrain… but still very steep. Might just wait for the terrain instead.
I didn’t realise it was going to be that expensive, I thought this would be £120ish. I might still go for it but its given me something to think about.
I do like the look of this especially as there is nothing that really screams 40k so it could be used in other games.
The link below gives an estimate of the value of the items in the box.
I wanted it for Star Wars as I’m doing an RPG using the old WEG system and it scream Tatooine and Tuskens to me.

Cheers, I’ll wait and see what its like on the weekend.
Good call on the tuskens, you just need a few banthas
I got one tuskan on a Bantha from Imperial Assault and one Stormtrooper on Dewback.
The prices for the figures in Australia is scandalous do they have them flow over by Phoenix or something.
Gaming with miniatures has always been an expensive hobby, but lately the prices have been getting ridiculous.
No just GW, but the so called ‘KS Exclusive products’ like Mythic Battles, Batman, Joan of Arc and many more…
Starting to feel like we’re been exploited because we’re perceived as people with expendable income.
The way forward is ‘miniature agnostic’ gaming… Frostgrave, Stargrave and Crooked Dice 7TV…
Yup sounds like crooked companies trying to fleece player’s.
Yeah I know what you mean.
I think the time has come to invest in a good 3D printer.
A lot more effort and an expensive initial outlay, but it certainly seems to be more cost-effective in the long run.
Me three. I have Orlocks already so it was a good fit for me and the terrain is definitely useful beyond the grimdark. Not at that price though.
I like how you have to buy a separate book to field all of the new stuff like the flea caller above 🙂
I am hoping that the book in the box covers that, it says it covers indoor and outdoor scuffles. Great if your new to it, not so good if you happen to have 2 or 3 rule books from the other sets.
they’ve already said that a supplement is coming that will have the rules for the two named characters that they’ve shown off for the Ash Wastes and Orlocks. In fact it’s actually in the article unboxing the contents of the Ash Wastes
I was thinking on jumping on as my club plays Necromunda, but at these prices I rather hold out to see how much the Horus Heresy box set will cost? (Probably over 200 quid and a pound of flesh). If it is the case I will concentrate on Firefight from Mantic instead.
It is the reverse of the Godfather quote – ‘The more I try to get in, the more they push me away!’?
The trick with the pound of flesh is get a good lawyer who brings up the subject of bleeding and if it’s not in the contract then you can get away with not paying it 🙂
Necromunda is an ‘okay’ game, but not a great one. It does have some great minis that can be used in other ‘generic’ skirmish games that allow you to use any minis and RPG’s.
I’m hearing £250 is the rumoured RRP
Reminds me of them critters from darkcrystal beefed up.
Putting the bug in bugmans?
Not normally one to grumble about the GW prices, it is what it is and you buy it or you don’t. However since I saw the giant fleas I was genuinely excited for this release, but at that price point it’s probably going to be a pass.
Shame, maybe I’ll buy some of Mantic’s Firefight stuff to cheer myself up..
That looks really nice.
I just did a search on amazon for ‘wooden disks’…
Something like these might be workable for making some suitable Necromunda terrain like the buildings in Necromunda Ash Wastes…

Or maybe start with some of the old CD ROMs you have lying about from old magazine cover disc…
