The guys are at it again! This time they have found a nasty trick you can play on your buddies with some of the terrain rules from the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook. What do you think of this latest piece of cheese?

I wouldnt call this cheese, i rather call it “youre opponent being dumb”. If youre opponent agrees to have that piece be set up as terrain and you start playing the game its the opponents own fault for letting you use that big gun.
And you two actually believe that someone would allow you to do that? “Yes Darrell, you can put your 10 DMLs on your half of the board as a terrain piece. I don’t mind at all”.
There’s no cheese in here – only stupidity.
?Cheese?
If it would fit into the story for the game, why not set up some emplacements.
make them objectives, have a die decide if its still functional etc.
Tons of options for very interesting scenarios there.
They only pose a problem if you are limited to basic missions and non narrative games.
Just look at the battlemissions book, you’ll find lots of ideas for massive amounts of emplacements on board.
I agree. This piece of rule can be very interesting in a narrative game.
Would a bolt pistol mobile gun emplacement give a tyranid a +1 attack? 🙂
Off topic: Can we have a close up of that spidery model near Andy please? Can’t make out what it is, as it is painted kinda dark. Is it a custom kit bash? as the legs look like Soul Grinder legs. Seen it in a few videos now and getting kinda curious.
Thanks in advance.
Its a Chaos Defiler dude
I reckon I’d meet this bit of cheese with Page 96 under Fortifications and Dilapidation where it states that any fortification not bought as part of an FOC cannot use its emplaced weapons.
Yeh I know it doesn’t strictly apply but hey neither does the lads’ suggestion.
Yup! Forgot about dilapidation. Sorry guys… No cheese.
The Masque behind an Icarus shooting it three times…..at three different opponents…..especially at this Telion scrub.
I know it cant be done…..I’m just sayin.
Why would you want to trick your opponent anyway? Seems a bit silly, where’s the fun in that type of game?
I agree, gilgamesh. No fun. Although it would be kind of fun if there were guns scattered around the table. Maybe you are fighting in an abandoned weapons yard or something.
I think I found some Sisters of Battle cheese!
Most entries for replacing a boltgun with another weapon, reads “Up to one (blank) may replace her boltgun with one of the following:”, except for the Celestians.
Their entry reads, “One Celestian may replace her boltgun with one of the following:” It doesn’t say “Up to one may replace…” or “Only one may replace…”, so does that mean you can have a unit of 9 Heavy Flamers, or 9 Meltaguns, or 9 Stormbolters, etc?
Is that too cheesey? I wouldn’t do it myself, but I’m wondering if Darrell would?
Well no because it says ‘One Celestian may replace her bolt gun with one of the following’ meaning that only ONE can be upgraded at all. You can’t break the english in that sentence because theres nothing wrong with it. Yes it doesn’t say ‘up to one’ or ‘only one may replace’ but the printed sentence still means exactly the same.
No loop-hole there i’m afraid dude!
Well it doesn’t say “Only one…”, that’s my point. Is it cheese because they didn’t watch the language, since the rest say “Up to one…” or “Up to five…” etc?
I agree with you veteranranger. I would read it that way, but some may not and try to manipulate the words.
It’s says ‘one’ at the beginning of the sentence! lol There is no possible way in the english language that you can get around it! One means one!
That’s the thing with cheese,it only comes about when you read the rules in a silly way.
One Celestian is one celestian, not one followed by a different one and then a different one again and then another one
I just love Darrell and Andys cheesy stuff, I dont even play 40K and I watch it just because of you lads. Whens the old gang getting together again for a show? Live Rounds, Turn 8?
some guys at my local club used to use similair rules to gun emplacements in 5th and were thrilled that they were now in the new rules many built them as faction specialist stuff e.g. and ork player built a crazty rokkit lobba thing and our tau player built the railgun emplacement….Our eldar player built my favourite though the d cannon emplacement from dawn of war! I’m currently trying to build some emplacements for a game i hope to play soon but it’s a bit frustrating…. would still reccomend it though the one i’ve finished was a very rewarding experience.
This video was bad, and you should feel bad for posting such rubbish.
For starters, as pointed above, on page 96 it clearly states that neutral buildings count as “dilapidated” and their attendant gun emplacements are non-functioning.
Secondly, assuming that weren’t the case, the only three types of people would fall for this:

Individuals afflicted with Downs Syndrome whom are on a field trip from the group… Read more »

Page 96 doesn’t -really- apply as a Gun Emplacement isn’t a building and an emplaced gun isn’t a gun emplacement. It’s just a tenuous point you could argue if you opponent insists on being a dick and putting 20 gun emplacements into the terrain pool.
But I do agree, I’d rather see “cheese” over “A really cool way to ensure you never get a game ever again off anyone for any reason, including fantasy and other games systems because your a total dick.”
