A New Techy Makes a Splash in Deep Wars
June 21, 2012 by dracs
Some new Deep Wars previews have been published up on the ShadowSea blog page. With miniatures in production for the Ancients of Atalan Deep Wars is definitely progressing well.
This guy is the Technologist, wielding tech which allows him to shift dimensions and pass through solid objects such as the wall of a ships hull. Useful when your after the treasured cargo such a ship might have been carrying.
Accompanying him is the Hunter-Killer.
This mech has a nice alien look to it, appropriate when you consider we know less about some parts of the sea than we do about certain areas of space. It looks to me as being a cross between the space ships from the original War of the Worlds films and a manta ray.
Do you guys like the look of these minis? Will any of you be getting into Deep Wars when it is released?

I’m pretty set on this being my next wargame to get into, everything about it seems to speak to me in a way none of the others do. It has so many things going for it that appeal to me : the aquatic-lovecraftian feel of the Dark Mariners, the bioshock/20,000 leagues style humans, the Deep Ones style of the Scaley horde. Even the terrain released so far is amazing. Oh yeah and the most important thing of all? TENTACLESSSSSSSS 😛
Not sure why the techy is so thin, but the belt suggests he was of broader build
Is he “phasing” to pass through something in this depiction?
Both do look very cool imho with a nod to the War of the Worlds in the design of the Hunter/Killer.
I think the belt is so big to give the same slightly retro space-age impression as the rings that aren’t held in place by anything on Jetsons-type vehicles, plus it accentuates the slender alien form. It’s a great sculpt anyway, as is the clearly organically inspired yet still artificial/metallic-looking mech – it’s impressive to see what looks like essentially a small vehicle in a skirmish game, that’s rare for small companies.
That techy really looks alien in body type. Cool.
Did anybody look at the technologist and think wraithlord combined with wych?
