Tau Codex Break Down: HQ

Gav sits down with the new Tau Codex and a brave volunteer from the Beasts of War community, Jack (A.K.A. Anihil), and first up it's got to be a look at the HQ section!
Which HQ choices have got better, who is cheaper, and what's new? Most importantly though can your Tau Ethereal still sacrifice himself for the Greater Good?

Shame that GW still missed out on putting Angor Pok in the book (again)
Anghkor Prok was a Games Day figure from 2001(?) and had a limited rules release on the old site. Not sure they’d bring him back as the focus seems to be more firmly on the tau rather than the auxilia this time around.
Good vid btw. Jack makes a great first outing and if Gav is leading the week I think the Tau are in safe hands. Love Gav’s ‘power stance’… 😉 Clearly a Monat in a previous life.
Not the easiest stalls to perch on… that, and it makes me look more “dynamic”… yeah.. thats it…. ; )
Yes Anghkor Prok was a limited edition model from a games day, but man is he loved by Tau players. I myself made a kroot army from that old chapter approved army list. I used Anghkor Prok as my leader.
I was looking forward to seeing Anghkor Prok, Kroot Knarloc riders and Kroot Great Knarlocs. They would have won me over to the Tau side instantly.
loved seeing tau getting some coverage, but i’m sorry to say you guys got some stuff wrong. the only battle suits that can take seeker missiles are the broadsides. then you mentioned the commander can take a homing beacon, which he sadly cannot. only ethereals and stealth suit shas’vres can take them. i don’t think i’ll use a commander in a stealth suit unit to get the homing deep strike combo.
I apologise for being a numpty – could someone explain how shield drones are used?
For example, a shield drone and missile drone with an HQ. Assuming none are further forward than the other and the unit is hit by a melta gun. I’ll display my utter ignorance of the rules (I havne’t read thme for a long time) so could someone let me know what would happen?
Assuming that all the models are exactly the same distance away from the melta, you would randomly determine which model tries to save the wound.
Just to let you know though, only Broadsides can take missile drones.
My bad, I must have got myself muddled up on the wargear side of things… always tricky when handling a new book ! cheers for spotting the mistake (at least proves you were awake through the video!).
As to missile drones, as already mentioned, broadsides only… but if your broadside were to have them…and shield drones… just make sure your shield drones are further forward, so they take the brunt of the fire first…
seriously guys? just skipping the chaos daemons?…
they’ve repeatedly said they were dealing with other issues first watch the weekenders it’s on it’s way as a double week
seriously souba? Not watched the weekender or read any of the comments by warren regarding Daemons coverage? 😉
nice to see the members of the team that use the army doing the week! Don’t get me wrong loved darrel and andy doing it but you two are really doing beasts of war proud keep it up 🙂
Good vid. Never know, might get a stand alone Kroot army list in the future, I remember the chapter approved list and it was a fun army to play and it would be nice to dust off my Anghkor Prok miniature.
I hope that day comes soon. 😉
Why no Warren for a themed week?
I think these guys did a much much better job of it than I could 🙂
There doing a good job, just miss seeing you up on the screen with your sence of humor 🙂
The blood angel week with you and Darrel still cracks me up 🙂
Stop calling it a ‘dex’. Just stop it.
Well Codex makes it so much longer to say 😉
Great report guys. I don’t play Tau but I do come up against them a lot. Looks like I’ll have to make sure I blade storm from over 12″ That’s if DA get bladestorm, when the new Eldar codex comes out.
Nice to get some chunky 40k vids on the site again. Well presented chaps, really enjoyed it.
Would like to see a lot more game vids like the pirates and port evening, mercs demo games etc. How about an edited Tau battle report? There are some nice 40k ones out ont net with sound effects, explosions etc good fun to watch and relatively quick. You could add a commentary afterwards explaining thoughts of players at the time like they ave on movies these days.
Having “enforcer” armor on the commanders is probably just a fluffy way of saying this model can take four wargear options instead of three. That way they have some difference between the regular XV8 suits to explain why they can’t take also take four wargear options.
First of all great video.
second, the problem with aun’va as i see it, is he has those 2 stupid honour gaurd models that come with him and is thus not an independent character, and can’t join a unit, if i ever saw him on the board i would pour some fire into him very early, not much of saves there and can be overwhelmed by str 6 weaponry, i just can’t justify that over an ethereal who can get in the fire warrior squad to have some protection from enemy shooting.
After a busy time with work, I’ve caught up with all the Tau Week videos. Really great job.
It’s clear the guys are Tau fanboys, which is right for a new book review. My only one bit of feedback was … more please. Would love to see some army list ideas, allies options, bit more fluff, even some stuff coverage of the forgeworld gear. Thanks again.
