Time for a look at the classic heavy hitter section of your new Tau Codex with the Elites. Gav and Jack chat about the old XV8 Crisis Battlesuit teams and the brand spanking new XV108 Riptide, but what do you guys think? Will you be running out to pick up one or three of the new models?

Watching this, I may have made a mistake on ripple fire for el Cataclismo (the Riptide), I think you may actually be able to fire the specified weapons twice, and then the main weapon using the multi-tracker, as “even though these weapons are fired twice, [they] still only count as firing one weapon.”
You guys mixed up ordnance and barrage, but I’m not going to go any further in to that(honest mistake).
Without a doubt you can ripple fire and fire the main gun at the same time. No matter how you interpret the ripple fire wording. The monstrous creature rules say it can fire two weapons and multi-tracker says one additional weapon, with these two separate rules allow three weapons to be fired at the same time.
To make it more unstoppable, attach a commander with a shield generator, drone controller, two shield drones and iridium armor. Might turn into a gross misuse of points, but nobody will take it down quickly, and watching them panic will be hilarious.
agree the crisis suit will still be most used due to their versatility although i’ll still be filling all 3 slots on most of them… also a fan of the old stealth suits here 😉 pity they don’t sell both as options. The riptide is also bringing out shiny syndrome in me… been a very long time since had that 😀
Plus as a monsterous creature you can fire 2 weapons a turn, with Multi-tracker that makes 3 a turn 🙂
Could you please make an effort and try to read all the rules for the units that your reviewing, new people to W40k might get confused when it comes to playing the game after watching these videos.
I’m not sure if the second sentence is meant to be friendly ribbing, or an honest criticism, what with the written text being notoriously bad for conveying such things
A bit of both, I’m not having a go at the guys in a mean way or anything, but some of the themed weeks where there explaining some of the new rules or what can and can’t be done ain’t 100% correct. Take the Purifier power “Cleansing Flame”, I believe that Darrel described it as a template attack during grey knight week……need i go on 🙂 I got into 40k through friends recommendations of watching the video’s on Beast’s of War, so I could get a flavour of how the game plays and some tactics. I still remember when God… Read more »
I wish it were as easy as putting in more effort, but just to give you some idea, I got the codex as soon as my store opened on the Saturday, then spend almost every hour I had after that reading it, checking it against the old codex and the BRB etc., until filming three days later, though getting up at 5 in the morning the day of the filming to go to work for 8 hours probably didn’t help me =P
Just remember that these guys are doing us a service.
They are giving their opinion, their interpretation of the rules and starting dailoge. They are only human any WE all make mistakes on reading rules.
Great Videos guys but…..
‘If your new tau’??????
yeah guys if players are new and have no idea then you should really discuss the crisis suits and tactics for their sake, they may even be new to 40k which is why they are watching this video.
I know you went on about the HQ for a while but that was good depth.
Awesome video.. but is it just me or did the video cut out at the end 😛
I agree with u guys about the flexibility of XV8 Battlesuits, which is why I swear by them in my list. And I feel a bit more inclined to get El Cataclismo now, Jack. 😛 lol
also the rules states you can fire it twice counting as only firing the weapon once, so you can fire both weapons on the multitracker alone, also you can FNP you nova charge wound
Oooooh. How much am I gonna hate that el Cataclysmo thing… I’m watching Tau week because my main opponent is a Tau player. I’m really hating what I’m hearing so far!
lol
Seems like 6th edition codexes are all going to be great. I’m liking it so far.
Good job for the review by the way.
Well @happyhowler El Cataclismo will have some kind of weakness. Which is most probably overload it with a lot of AP2 weapons and hope he fails his invun’s. What army do u play btw?
Orks… Smells like an all-nob-list is on the way! 😉
I’d accept that challenge, though I think I’d be more afraid of an all bike list
Yes… Speed will be the key in defeating the Tau.
Stealth Suits might’ve lost Acute Senses, but like all (!) battlesuits, they come with a free Multi-Tracker and a free Black Sun Filter by default now.
The Riptide will still get spanked by “Jaws of the world wolf” still with an initiative of 2. Dark Eldar spammed poison weapons and husk blades will be painfull as well.
Can an IC join el cataclysmo if it has drones? Normaly IC cannot join 1 man units, but with drones does that change?
I would take plasma and the ion BFG, fire str 8 ap 2 large blast every turn pluss plasma shots. Dont need nova charge for that. Kills termis and SM nicly, combine with marklights to remove cover and give BS to make your opponet cry 😉
oops never thought of that. Codex pg.33 says that “Drones taken as upgrades for a unit act as additional squad members in all regards.” and Independent Characters rules in the main rule book say “[IC] cannot, however, … join units that always consist of a single model (such as most vehicles and Monstrous Creatures).” Comparing these two wordings would tell me that although it is possible to do, it probably is not intended to. I would only use this in friendly games where my opponent has agreed to let me well in advance. I’m in this hobby for the fun… Read more »
Shas’O Shaserra (Commander Shadowsun) joining El-Cataclismo-With-Drones = nasty surprise. 😛
