The Tau Know Bigger Is Better With New Games Day Battlesuit
September 12, 2013 by brennon
The Tau are getting the massive model treatment this year at Games Day with the mighty XV107 R'Varna Battlesuit from Forge World. See what you think of this monstrous creation with it's rather epic looking guns...
The Battlesuit looks awesome with two epic guns that look like they've been drawn from the pages of a anime movie. I like that you get a real good look at how exactly these could work on the battlefield, with all those bits and pieces opening up as it charges.
The best thing about the model, from my point of view anyway, it how 'humanoid' it looks. Gone is the tiny head that we saw on the Riptide and it's been replaced with a sleek torso that has much of the Mass Effect style Geth look to it. Rather than it being a suit it looks like it could have a mind of its own.
That is certainly a gem of a release for Forge World!

The Forgeworld Tau stuff always looked brilliant… But SOOOOOO expensive.
Considering that the normal riptide cost 50£ and this one is 70£, I cant say it is that much more expensive. What I find more interesting is that many of GWs main releases has several flaws and/or looks fugly, Forge World releases are just about always top notch in quality, paintjob and sculpting. Why is that?
Not paint-job. And casting isn’t always top notch.
And 50 pounds is MUCH too dear as well.
Really like this model!!
FW has outdone its parent company once again.
Its clearly a nod to District 9 , really good looking model … too bad its not ever worth is weight in pounds
It also has a transformers the movie feel about it as well.
Definitely getting this!
The Riptide is nice. (and Idid already think of slapping 2 heads together to give it better proportions if I ever were to get one.)
But this one looks awesome!
Too bad all this stuff is so expensive.
Almost makes me want to do Tau…
Beautiful model and a fair price for what you are getting. It’s always the same response ‘It’s too expensive’, like a broken record. This is supremely a wargaming hobbyists reaction. Try buying high detail resin cast models or injection plastic kits of anything else (horror kits, Mecha/Gundam, warships, Sci-Fi classics, hell even paleontological sculpts of dinosaurs) – other than a wargaming model. Go browse the internet. Look beyond a ‘pocket money’ hobbyist attitude and see how much excellently detailed model kits really cost.
Quality scale models cost money. Get used to it :p
I think its safe to say anything related to GW is not going to be fairly priced.. its just against principle.
exactly and @jaerin, the high detail stuff you mention is RELLY high detail, anatomically correct, perfectly proportioned and well cast/molded. GW is anything BUT in line regerding price/performance ratio.
i like
I think Darren Parwood did a fantastic job on this, certainly fixed some of the visual scale errors that made the original base model look so disjointed. I would like to know if any sort of rule system (experimental) was out for these yet?
A one click bundle with model and a limited, burnished gold embossed rules sheet perhaps.
It looks like a decepticon…
Thats a great looking model, but i never trust the upgrade kits from Forgeworld with fitting the GW minatures. Have had to many bad expereinces with Rhino doors, seige sheilds with thin walls etc. Though to FW’s credit, I picked up two Remoras which are beautiful models.
