Starter Deal for Covenant of Antarctica
September 16, 2011 by dracs
Spartan Games have currently got a special offer running for those who want to get started with the Covenant of Antarctica.
Currently, there are two box sets available for the Covenant. The Naval Battle Group.
The Armoured Battle Group.
Now they will both be available as part of a twin pack offer with a 10% discount, allowing you to take the fight to both land and sea.
When you do, whatever faction you might play remember to bring along a couple of these more special units to scare off the enemy.
So guys what do you think? Maybe now is the time to get yourself an army and engage in steam powered warfare.
Um… 10% isn’t an outstanding saving. This is actually 10p more from Spartan than it is from Maelstrom games, and that’s without a sale on there. It’s one of those odd things about gaming these days, that it’s almost always cheaper to buy a game from someone other than the manufacturer.
10% saving is on top of the saving that is most likely already built into the box sets (not checked so I may be wrong, but I assume that the starter sets are cheaper then buying the components separately). Box sets normally have smaller margins on them anyway, so a 10% saving is likely cutting into that margin nicely. If the companies business model is to sell through a distribution network, then it should be possible for a customer to buy their models cheaper from reseller than the manufacturer. I’ve never understood how a manufacturer could sell to a retailer,… Read more »
I understand the model Tor, I just think it feels strange. Odd. Wrong. A bit like this stuff:

Even though I know what the maths are and that they’ll upset retailers if they compete directly it feels contra-intuitive that the people who make it should charge more. I wouldn’t have said anything but it was announced here as news, which is doesn’t really feel like…
…I’ll get me coat.
Oh no, I agree it’s got the weird feel to it if you start to think along the lines of ‘But as they produce it, they must be making more money on a pack of models than a retailer will’. But any company worth their salt will support their retailers by not underselling them. You never bite the hand that feeds you (I wouldn’t as that is the missus and she would kick the living crap out of me if I bit her….) There are many things in this business that confuse the hell out me….. That’s a wicked vid,… Read more »
Of course you have to refrain from the biting. Mostly.
Non-Newtonian stuff is just plain odd. There are loads of vids online about it if you have a trawl, full of “but it can’t do that” moments. I do rather like this one:

ha ha, madness!!!
