quick question, do space wolf scouts have the camo cloaks ?
no they dont
I play 5 man sniper scouts with a missile launcher with sgt telion + techmarine w/ thunderfire cannon w/ 2 weapon servitors. Roughly 300 pts, i know some may say too expensive but consider 3 sniper shots from the scouts, 2 sniper shots from telion, 1 missile shot, 4 blast shots from the thunderfire, 6 heavy bolter shots from the servitors, scouts get a 2+ cover save due to telion + the techmarines special rules and The techmarine + servitors get a 3+ cover save. More than worth the cost when you consider the cost/ fire power of a terminator… Read more »
Yes take Sgt Telion. He has bs of 6 and gets ot allocate the wounds he causes, and best of all can give his bs of 6 to another scout (missile launcher) means as close to an automatic hit as you can get.
Simply use the pinning wisely to stop a unit from moving.
Like you said, from time to time I have used a 5 men regular scout squad armed with bolt pistol and CCW. the SGT got a power fist. You don’t have any idea how much I have annoyed my opponents with those guys. Almost every game I kill double theire value, and it distracted my opponent for a good 2 to 3 turn. In the previous codex, I was able to put a Ligthning claw to the SGt. I was so even more effective at that time. Sound weird to equip your SGT like that, but it worked.
ruddy hell, I hadn’t bother re-reading the 5th edition sniper rule. in the last un it was hit on a 2 wound on a 4…. i thought it was anyway.
This tactic also works fine on units with rage, put your scouts on the other side of the table where nothing is going on but still closer then your main army and then the enemy has to rage towards you, and with a expensive unit of death company guys, you don’t want to go after a silly group of scouts. And indeed the ccw and powerfist sgt. is also a great unit to lock the heavy weapon guys in combat or kill a vehicle that doesn’t move, like tau broadside units or predator tanks.
nice idea, but necrons get we’ll be back against rending shooting. they only don’t get it if they are hit with instant death or weapons that never allow armour saves in close combat. also if playing with space wolves i find that using scout as a combat squad works very well. i generally give them a wolfen, a power weapon and a flamer, then when they come on they will kill most things on the charge.
Hate to break it to u but necrons only get a WBB roll from rending weapons if they are within 6 inch of a resurrection orb
Nope. It has to be double the strength for shooting attacks. Rending is no good for taking out WBB. lictormarbo is correct.
Sorry Darrell – I’ve used a unit of sniper scouts quite a bit and they seem to be completely useless – it doesn’t matter what I target, or how, they just repeatedly fail. I prefer CCW scouts myself. Mind you you could spam the snipers and have 60 of them with support? Sounds like fun 🙂
What kind of game gives you a cover save from standing out in the open, in broad daylight, on top of a HIGH OBJECT, in clear view of everyone !?
Surely it can’t be a 3+ cover save for that…. I can just about get 6+ from the camo cloaks, but they aren’t IN cover, they’re standing in the open I agree…
If I had someone call that on me I would be rather sceptical… >.<
I agree, scout snipers are great in my eyes, good troop choice, just wish they could score points in my dark angel force 🙁
1 question though, how are they getting a cover save on that crater? didn’t think that was area terrain?
If LOS is blocked to the models at all, then they get a cover save. If you’re shooting from below, odds are that part of the model will be obscured.
ah well in that case it would tough for them to get a cover save really wont it, especially against a group of destroyers
Have never used snipers yet. Haven’t even made a squad, but I will do soon. A conversion of Elysians/scout pieces. Will try to make my snipers without standing up. Snipers should be down on their knees or lying down, blocking LOS for anyone except themselves. Logically. lol- I don’t get it… A space marine is 8ft tall with a semi-automatic weapon that fires .50 (rounds that the biggest sniper rifle IRL fires…). How the hell does a scout, a human initiate earning the right to become a space marine carry such a weapon… Just a thought. lol
space wolf scouts have win. i use mine with melta bombs, then sepruise assault using behind enemy lines. F your battle tank squadron
Spot on tactics, mate 🙂
