Soldier Droids Blast Their Way Into Puppets War
February 9, 2014 by dracs
Puppets War have announced the release of a new set of droids armed with blasters on their webstore, ready to scuttle over and destroy all those week, pathetic humans.
These robotic creations are armed with new blasters, meaning they can do some real damage, while the design of their heads just adds to their insectile appearance.
A unit of these droids would be an interesting and eye catching addition to your armies, with the design standing out from other robotic factions while still being very recognizable as such.
What is your opinion of Puppets War's new despicable droids?

This is what happens when you leave a Necron and a Droideka alone at night.
*love*
Better looking than the Necron versions.
It’s possible to be influenced by other designs and it’s perfectly legitimate to produce designs which are a tribute to classic ideas and tropes. However, it’s also possible to cross the line into downright plagiarism.
you have seen the terminator right?
Agreed, necrons were obviously inspired by the terminator.
plagiarism is GW all over and thats coming from me being one of their few supporters!
I disagree dave. GW falls into the camp of taking ideas and influences from elsewhere as is common throughout popular culture. Making miniatures that are deliberate proxies for the minis made by another company is just plain, simple plagiarism.
“GW falls into the camp of taking ideas and influences from elsewhere as is common throughout popular culture.” Ummmm…No that isn’t what they do. They copy things and then turn around and try to defend some new and exclusive right to use that intellectual material, as if they themselves had just created it. It wasn’t that long ago that it was reported on this very site that GW were taking legal action against another company that made a lamassu miniature, because GW were claiming ancient Assyrian mythology as their own intellectual property. Earlier incarnations of the Necron rules included a… Read more »
-coughs- Terminator movie…
Were going to need a bigger glass. You forgot Aliens movie.
Whether GW are guilty of plagiarism or not does not alter the fact that these are plagiarised from Necrons. I was brought up to believe two wrongs don’t make a right.
However, if GW steal ideas from a movie to inspire their images and miniatures, that is a world away from one miniature company making minis that are deliberate copies of another company’s miniatures. However you try to dress it up and whatever you think of GW, this is simply the worst kind of barefaced plagiarism.
Worst barefaced? THEY DON’T EVEN MATCH ANYTHING IN THE NECRON CODEX.
They ain’t Wraiths, they ain’t Destroyers as they fly, they ain’t Immoratals. What are they meant to be?
I actually think it’s a valid criticism that it isn’t a clear proxy for something!
I think it is pretty clear that they could easily be used to proxy Immortals, and it seems likely that this was very much a consideration behind the sculpt. That said, they are different enough from the Necron range that they can still stand as miniatures in their own right. And as wesadie1969 observes upthread, they are clearly as much inspired by Starwars Droidekas as they are by the Necron range.
I can think of far more blatant examples of intellectual property theft from GW (I am looking at you, Chapter House Studios).
Yes, Chapter House are worse offenders, as are all the companies who make large, green skinned orcs with ferocious underbites. I may be over reacting on this one, but returning to the hobby after a 25 year break I find it better in many ways and far worse in some. Better in that the quality of miniatures and games has increased enormously. Worse in seeing the number if things which are just copies of what GW do. I love the diversity of games such as Infinity, warmachine, Hordes, Malefaux and, yes, WH40k. Great games and great minis by companies all… Read more »
Have you considered following the progress of up and coming games systems? All Quiet on the Martian Front has a great War of the Worlds aesthetic to it unlike anything else I know of on the market. Then there is Beyond the Gates of Antares which is now being developed with the help of Warlord Games. Rick Priestly – one of the original creators of 40K – is behind the project, but it really is as different from 40K as it is possible to get, being much more reminiscient of the Culture novels by the late, great Ian M. Banks.… Read more »
so name a game apart from 40k you would use these in…
my problem is there are no games out there that deserve such amazing models that PW and maxmini put out!
Convergence in privateers warmachine , depending on size could replace several enforcer models (warpath/deadzone) or vehicles, sure i could find a use in dystopian legions with antartica would look a little odd but possible maybe even as large dropzone commander models… i’m sure others in my area could name a few more.
Name the 40K unit you would use these in. And no, not Immortals,
On a different note… These look ace @dracs thanks for posting about them 😀 can think of a few games that could benefit from these wondering how large they are? look like they could easily go on a 40mm base it just says fit for 28mm heroic scale?
Addendum…there arent factions in Infinity or deadzone that these can proxy for….
the enforcers are getting walkers as are rebs and maurauders minor conversions these would be great not to mention upcoming asterians and forgefathers don’t believe infinity was mentioned but if there aleph tags… dont know much about infinity yet only just started looking into it seriously
