Soda Pop’s Relic Knights Nears Completion
August 30, 2012 by dracs
With only 10 days left to go on the Kickstarter campaign for Relic Knights I dedcided it was about time to take a look at some of minis this community funded project will be bringing us.
There are six factions in the world of Relic Knights. First up we have the terrifying Noh Empire.
Possessors of ancient and mystic technology the Noh Empire strike without warning, looting and pillaging in the name of their Dark god.
These guys are of course based around creatures and art from Asiatic folklore and the sculpts seem to blend this aesthetic well with the overall anime style of the game.
After these guys are the mercenary forces of Black Diamond.
A conglomerate of mercenary forces, Black Diamond will work for just about anyone... for a price.
The general look of Black Diamond seems to be of a harsher, more militaristic look in comparison with the other factions. Their walker has lots of exposed bits and pieces showing joints etc. which serves to give it an appearance which almost verges on steampunk.
In direct contrast to Black Diamond is the style of the Shattered Sword Paladins.
With their medieval / sci-fi style armour these guys look every inch the defenders of peace and civilization.
Next up are the Doctrine faction.
The Doctrine are the "magic" users of Relic Knights, blasting away at their opponent with Espers. Swinging staffs and riding an interesting mix of arcane and sci-fi creations and the sculpts seem to convey this mixing of sci-fi rather well.
But maybe your looking for a little faster. Then why not the Cerci Speed Circuit.
These ladies are speed freaks, pure and simple. They live for speed, excitement and pleasure. I love the style of these vehicles, especially the jet bikes. Though I have never watched anyone riding any vehicle in such provocative positions.
Finally we have the Star Nebula Corsairs.
These guys are pirates and quite possibly the most cartoony of all the minis here. They look like One Piece suddenly went to space.
All in all these minis are truly impressive, especially the walker miniatures. It is no wonder that this Kickstarter has raised quite possibly the most funds I have come across in a miniature kickstarter campaign ($326,880at time of writing).
These sculpts are definitely enough to garner a lot of support.
OK, those might have something to do with it too.
Will any of you be trying out Relic Knights? If you want to pledge your support head over to the Kickstarter page now.

I have just finished watching a “demo” of about 1 hour on youtube.
The game seems quite fast, with interesting tactics opportunities. Love the Noh empire and the Corsairs (come on, they have a four-armed, big-bellied feline cook!!!).
Ummmmm…. you were aware of the $1 million + that was raised for Sedition Wars and the $3 million that Reapers Bone’s Kickstarter recently amassed?
I am now
There are several sites that have compiled gaming news, Sam. My favorite is this site called Beasts of War. I’m pretty sure they covered the bones kickstarter.
😉
Beasts of War? Oh I know them, don’t pay much attention to them they’re a bunch of gits.
It might not have the success of sedition wars, zombicide, or reaper’s bones line, but I still plan on getting in on this one. I’ve been looking a skirmish game and I love the brighter, less insidious future Soda-Pop paints a picture of. (also, it will require less terrain and a smaller table than infinity so I spend less getting a presentable board.)
I can’t think of anything more dopey than building a mech without armour for the operator. All you need is a .22 pistol and the mech is yours. You could then take it home and use it for landscaping and gardening, as it would be utterly useless in combat.
Those mechs don’t get built, they manifest out of latent psychic energy.
I would like a landscaping mech though, can I get one with lawnmower feet?
Maybe hedgetrimmer toes, or if you’re in a hurry, two big ducted fans that would carry the mech an inch off the ground. Would be way more fun and faster than throwing a six-pack on the back of the riding mower and spending Saturday afternoon leisurely tooling around the estate.
Over all the idea and look of the models are great. Wish more companies would paint the future like a fun adventure as Soda does.
I’ve made my pledge and picked out my factions. Now the waiting game.
Sodapop Relic Knights are pretty much just a bit of a fun. I find it hard to take the game seriously but they still do some nice sculpts. Certainly great for fans of “those” as Sam put it. 😉
I actually have rather high hopes for Relic Knights. I am loving most sculpts and whole anime/manga style gets bonus points from me on emotional level so if rules are also least as good then I am going to love this game.
The preview rules are now online in pdf form and there is a battle report on youtube as well.
I’ve already pledged. Looks to be a super fast and fun game. Sould be an excellent counterpoint to the long grinding games of 40k and WFB.
