Sneak Peak at some Gothic Tank Traps from Secret Weapon
June 20, 2011 by beerogre
They're only in the design stage, but they're definitely on the way. Secret Weapon has release a preview picture of their latest terrain piece, the Gothic Tank Trap.
It all looks quite good. So those of you who are looking to get some easy terrain together to force those dangerous terrain tests on that nasty mechanised army you hate... you could do far worse than getting a bunch of these together.

an interesting take on an old faithful..
yeah they might look quite interesting ( as a terrain bit ), the thing here is …why would someone put so much effort in something that will be hit by a tank ( occasionally ^^ ), in wartimes no one would put that much work in something because lets face it, it isnt more than a roadblock and to make the negative form alone ( for the concrete casting ) would be a whole lot of unnecessary work.
Perhaps in the grim future of mankind, labour is cheap? 😉
You could use it as an objective marker, or even just decorative terrain in front of a building. Not all terrain has to have an in-game purpose.
Unless you’re the kind of guy who steals wheelchairs from innocent aged folk…
dont get me wrong I totally COULD use this as something else (and probably would) but its labeled as a tanktrap and I will comment on that as a tanktrap, because if somebody would do a miniature of a close combat stormtrooper with no arms, I wouldnt say ” oh hey could be a super cool modell for a guy who was born with no arms ” either ^^
Introducing the latest and greatest miniature line ever, GW is proud to present…
Thalidomide Warriors! 😀
See their amazing close combat power! What’s that you say? No arms?
No problem! They have power-weaponed spiked shoes! 😀
Could be its not a conventional tank trap, maybe its got some kind of magnetic/gravetic/psionic technobabel inside it. Or just a massive mine. 🙂
It’s nice, period…
Asking whether anyone would put much effort into making it look this nice is like asking why do SM paint their armor, why do they have such big and impractical shoulder pads, why are there skulls everywhere, why does anyone bother conquering whole planets “on foot” instead of fighting from orbit in space ships, and so on… It’s not like fighting orcs and demons in space is highly realistic anyway, isn’t it ?

SM Paint their armor because they cannot see the man underneath and so they still like to be racist in some way. They have big shoulderpads because the weak ones want to seem more manly. There are skulls everywhere because the guys at GW have a fetish for it, and we all know they do. They do it on foot because they want to get out of their sausage-fest ships (believe me, there cant be toooo many women on those ships) and meet some ladies. and it is SOOOO realistic, i just fought me some daemons last week, name was… Read more »
I stand corrected ! It’s so very explainable !
And those tank traps are gothic looking because the Empire people like to accessorize. there’s a general “theme” going on, and it’s so much cooler if every implement is redone to agree with it… I bet the toilet paper on those big ships is printed with the Ultramarine symbol. Well, except on the Ultramarines ship, that is…
BoW Romain
Of coarse We have the Ultramarines logo on the loo roll. How else would we tell our camomile and lavender paper apart from the regular munitorum issue?
ok I knew this would come up about the SM thing – their armour is a very personal thing often its hundreds of years old and they have a whole bunch of guys which does not do anything other in their life but to clean, maintain and personalize these things, often times they inherit the personal heraldic and a lot of commendations and awards …so I think you cant really compare these things to a tank-trap ^^ About the whole “on foot” part , as every tactician would tell you , you cant hold to an area just with your… Read more »
Come on, it’s all in good fun… Don’t take it too seriously ! We all know there’s plenty of fluff in the 40k universe.
At the end of the day, it’s just toy soldiers…
BoW Romain
as I said, nothing too serious here ^^ I simply like to talk about such stuff
How i would love to have ultramarines toilet paper, blood angels too. Not because i like either of them but because i would like to wipe my arse on anything with a big U on it or a flying blood drop. In fact if i saw a blood angel i would probably tell him so stay still while i give myself a scratch on his armour and he all he will do is slap me and run away crying to sanguinius, but then he cries some more when he remembers that sanguinius is dead and all that time everyone has… Read more »
Wow, I miss the conversation for a few minutes and you lot get silly! We have revised the tank trap design to include lift rings on each side face so it could be moved by a hoist. As for making them fancy – I just like to think there’s a factory out there somewhere churning these out by the space ship load. For you 40k gamers out there each one of these is probably blessed before it rolls off the assembly line. Most wargames include lots of fancy models and additions — these are no different. We’re just saving them… Read more »
Fancy tank traps are probably used often and as a permanent feature in front of Imperial Administration buildings to stop lazy citizens to park in front of them.
Like nowadays American embassies all have those mechanised dozer-things to stop occasional drive-through terrorists
I actually like this design.
Think about fortifications in front of a palace or another important building. If you have to defend it, you can just as well defend it with style. 😉
Yeah i think they look great. I would much rather have these then a plain lump of concrete. Anyway it might act as an extra deterent to the tank drivers who might look at it and dedide its too pretty to crash into
I like the structure. Not a fan of the typical X=shaped traps.
Andy was kind enough to update the post to include the new image. The revised pieces have been sent to the printer and I’ll have these in molds this summer. We won’t know the price until the pieces have been cast but I’m hoping to sell them in sets of six.
Ooh thats definately better, i see what you mean by the rings now
