Get Shooting Nids in First Person Space Hulk!
September 4, 2013 by dracs
A new teaser trailer has appeared on YouTube from Focus Interactive which is sure to make geeks everywhere salivate in anticipation. It is Space Hulk: Deathwing, nothing less than a first person shooter version of the classic board game!
Now traditionally Warhammer 40,ooo shooter games have generally had, shall we say, mixed receptions in the past. Space Marine and Fire Warrior I am looking at you two. However, Space Hulk: Deathwing will probably take its cues more from the previous first person shooter based on the board game; Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels for the PS1.
Speaking personally, I hope that Space Hulk: Deathwing will choose a far more horror-based approach than that taken previously. The dark, claustrophobic setting of the board game is one of its great charms, often leaving you feeling panicked as you realise your men have become cut off and isolated while the enemy is steadily swarming around you.
From the look of the teaser trailer it seems that the game makers Focus Interactive and Cyanide Studios will be focusing heavily on this dark, isolated atmosphere within the game and I hope we can expect to see some gameplay footage some time soon.
Who among you will be donning the power armour of the Deathwing?

Well if its as fun to play as the ps1 version I’ll be happy.
Mixed receptions? Space Marine was an brilliant game, have played it through several times (of cause the Ultramarine-haters would be against it but that’s par for the course!)
As a trailer this looks good, just hope its better than the recent Space Hulk game (was very disappointed with that)
I agree, Space Marine was epic. I am already planning a little Captain Titus tribute force with the new Space Marines for 6th.
BoW Ben.
No, Epic was Space Marine. Epic 40k must have come out 3 or 4 years after the Space Marine box set. #rimshot#
Anyway…I look forward to this new version of Space Hulk. I think the studio is also working on a new Jagged Alliance game.
with it using Unreal Engine 4 the in game graphics wont be too far off the ones in the trailer. can’t wait for this game to come out!
I think would be good if they made it for all consoles as well as the PC
FYI, all three developers (Focus, Cyanide and Streum On) are all french companies. My heart is parted between pride and meh…
Streum On – weren’t they the guys who did EYE – Divine Cybermancy?
The original Space Hulk by EA was great and Vengeance of the Blood Angels got me to buy a 3DO back in the day! This can truly be AWESOME!!!!!!
I quite enjoyed the PS1 game and Space Marine.
A point of nerdiness. It’s Terminator for the Deathwing not power armour.
Space Marine is a fantastic game so I think saying it had mixed reactions seems very undeserved and possibly not researched.
Also I’m on the look out for a copy of Fire Warrior to give that PS2 relic a go and see how it feels.
I have mixed reservations about the potential of Deathwing. If it has a DA story, enemy variety, scenic variety and other features then I’ll be interested, If not then I’ll pass.
Fire Warrior is a really REALLY mediocre shooter. It’s heavily HEAVILY scripted, it was really bad to play at the time, and 10 years really hasn’t done it any favours. At the end of the day, shooting guardsmen in the face is no fun if they not only don’t die to your pulse-round to the face, but continue to charge into combat and hurt you till you repeat it nine or ten times.
No moneyz for the GW .. no way
That is not what I expected a storm bolter to sound like. I hope this one is as good as Space Marine.
Trying to figure is this worth it?
Dunno what youre talking about Sam. The only mixed results Space Marine had was “this game is awesome” and “this game is bloody awesome!”
They just released a Space Hulk pc game not long ago which is an adaptation of the board game. I’m not sure how this game will go as a FPS, it has very big shoes to fill if it wants to replace Space Marine as the premier action 40k game.
I realise I must sound like a major fanboy but I dont even play marines I just think the game was that good.
We totally loved that board game back when I was at school some twenty+ years ago, wish I had that boxed game now £$£$£$, the graphics look great and I hope the game play try’s to stay true to the original.
I have never played it but I love the look of it and dark angels are my favourite 40k army so this could be a good in for me
