Forge World might just get me to start an IG army

I was recently on the Forge World site, looking at the Cadian Hostile Environment Conversion Sets and found myself completely drawn in by the Imperial Guard Sabre Defence Platforms.

If you take a look at the pics, I think you will understand why.

Now, I’m a Tau player, but the more I look at the amount of cool goodies there are for the Guard, the more I think it’s time I expanded my forces.

Up until now, I've collected Tau, mainly because I wanted to steer clear of the mainstream Imperial armies... well mainly staying away from Space Marines I guess!

This includes Chaos, as at their core they're just "spiky Space Marines" and Space Marines just don't interest me, as they're all over the place. We have three Marine armies in the studio alone!

With this in mind, I've been wondering why I have been leaning towards collecting the Guard, as they seem to be all over the place too! In fact I use to think of them as the most boring army in 40K, but something in me has changed.

So what can it be, is it because while John's at Uni I'm no longer greeted EVERY morning with the words “Come and look at my new tank” or more likely tanks or could it be that Forge World are getting stuck in and expanding their range so much? (By the way John the new set you have in the studio are pretty damn good!)

Well... I can confirm now that it’s the latter!

Once you start browsing round the IG section on Forge World it’s hard not to get excited by the likes of the Elysian Tauros Venator (that’s a mouth full) and the Death Korps range. So I think I’m sold on IG... I could even model them into my Tau army as human auxiliary troops... well... if Warren and Andy will ever let me away from my workstation.

OK... back to the Sabre Defence Platforms. I don’t know how feasible these would be in a game, but if you’re playing something scenario based I think they would be a real visual treat protecting an emplacement and with five in the range there are plenty of options:

Have a wee look at them and let us know what you think?

I like these a lot, in fact you could make your very own John Rambo if you used a Catachan Jungle Fighter on the Heavy Stubber (or on second thoughts maybe not).
