The guys have been looking around the interwebs for all the latest rumors and gossip on whats happening in the vaults of Games Workshop as they get ready to unleash Warhammer 40K 6th Edition. Today Warren & Darrell have been hearing about the possible end of random extra turns, and how that could effect your tactics in the game.

Allies will be possible… And not only in Doubles Tournaments.
And that’s from various sources
NoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNo Allies – Allies are just a way to fill in a capability hole in your armies – the whole point is to fill that hole with subtle tactics and wiley strategems
I’m not saying I’m liking it, just that that’s what I’ve heard
Allies are also a good way of being able to play the game on a budget.
We have one table and not a lot of time.
We already play allies if necessary so more people get to have a game and shall continue to do so.
As with the issue of ending the game in casual games it is surely a matter for the players to decide for themselves. We never get that far lol
???????????
jetbikes turbo boosting in turn 6 too contest objectives would be a bit daft as DE can hide a squad in the corner and fly 36″ safe in the knowledge that they can’t be shot or assulted
Ah but the rumour is objectives will no longer be who who holds it at the end wins, rather you’ll get some sort of points each turn you hold it
Me and my friends are already playing this way. It works pretty well with the fifth edition so I don’t see why it couldn’t work with sixth…
Does this mean that Turn 8 won’t have random time endings in the future?
Jjaja, nice one. Now, it would lose the point of being called turn 8 wouldn´t it?
lol
Given the amount of booze consumed, I think Turn 8 has the same meaning as the Nineteenth Hole! 😉
Thank god for the end of random game lenght. Only last weekend, that rubbish cost me third place at a tournament.
Having something so major decided by a D6 in a game that already involves massive chance has been a stretch too far ever since its introduction. Any tournaments with fixed turn numbers that I have been to have always been far more enjoyable. As Darrell said, random turn numbers help bad players and hinder good players. Good riddance.
I think Darrell got it right
Is probably better for tourneys to have a fixed game length, but fine to have the extra turn for casual games.
Don’t see what would be wrong if folks continued to roll for the extra turn if they agree to do so in a casual game. Or indeed if they agreed for no extra turn.
I am in between in this matter. I have not considered random turns to be any problem althought it has not really mattered to me either. So it dosen’t really matter to me is this rumor true or not since either way I am happy.
I heard pre measuring was going to be allowed which I’m pleassed about as it would suggest weapons have range finders I also heard on the rumour mill that there would be system for generating terrain.
Hope they don’t do away with the random game length as I think it works well in friendly games, still there is nothing stopping anyone tagging this rule back on if the want.
Also and I’m almost 100% sure on this the front cover will have some kind of militaristic Hammer on it and maybe some kind of skull motif.
The limited range of the weapons is something I’d like to see the end of, IIRC replace it with a “if you can see it, you can hit it” system with modifiers on short, normal and long range (like Infinity IIRC)
I heard a rumor that GW are hiking their prices soon…
… sounds far-fetched
Nope… It’s all real. The prices will go up in a few weeks. Sorry.
I’ve heard several times that objectives will earn you points each round you control it, so no more last minute turbo boosting steals the win.
I like both situations. Pre-determined game length is good because it’s easier to think strategically. (Good with competitive players) Undetermined game length is funnier when it’s turn 6, you already drank 9 beers and you’re a dice-roll aways from loosing or winng and everybody around the table is waiting for it to finish the pizza slice, slowing cooling on a table nearby… So, I too think that there should be a Mission Generator wich would let you choose (or roll) a different scenario every time you play. Then, everybody would be happy. (Sincerely, if they don’t do it, I will… Read more »
Random mission generator, you mean like in Dust: Warfare?
Warfare isn’t random. You are able to manipulate it directly.
I like the random game length. It adds an additional consideration to the strategy mix and adds more realism. After all lots of battles have ended at an unanticipated time because of a storm front moving in, a supply line being cut, or other events occurring far away from the actual battlefield. I’m sure the British troops at Rourke’s Drift were glad the die roll was a 1 or 2 and the Zulus went home at the end of turn 5 instead continuing to turn 6 or 7. Also the luck of a game ending die roll really isn’t involved… Read more »
But the only way I win games is due to random turn length! “Man, if this game goes another turn, I will get wiped off the table… come on, 1 or 2, come on, 1 or 2!”
you roll for your own objectives try that out.
