Release Details Of Infinity Operation: Icestorm Revealed
July 9, 2014 by brennon
Corvus Belli have been teasing information out about Operation: Icestorm for Infinity for a while now and as it draws closer to August we all wait with baited breath to see the full contents of this rather funky sounding starter box.
So as you can see from this little release snippet we're going to be seeing this go up for pre-order throughout the month of August and will be available at GenCon (some lucky sods will be getting it early!). As well as that you'll get your hands on an exclusive miniature but what exactly that is we don't know yet. I'm sure some details of this will appear in due course!
Are you going to get Operation: Icestorm?
I really hope they hit the mark with this box set. I’m hoping for some ‘easier’ version of the rules as I look the miniatures, background etc. the rules, as they stand, just take some getting used to. I really like the whey the current rules work, ‘your turn all the time’ etc. It’s just you end up with so much to remember for any decent sized force. I would play more if it didn’t give me a head ache every time I played it!
Quick start rules on this very site are a great option if you want to get a jump on whatever rules come with the 3rd edition set!
I think there will be some small changes but I think most of the basic rule mechanics of the game in 3rd edition will work in the same way.
Im just wondering what material they are going to be in metal resin or plastic
Miniatures are going to be metal.
That’s the only reason I haven’t jumped at Infinity. I’ve long memeories of gluing my fingers together, of parts that don’t hold, of bits twisting off, of pinning, scraping mould lines…
I appreciate mass produced plastics are incredibly expensive but there’s got to be a compromise somewhere?
To be entirely honest, beyond GW’s plastics propaganda and their horrific metal models, other companies can and do manage to produce great metal models that are a charm to work with.
CB sides with quality and they keep production in house for that reason, plastics beyond not been produced in house would further limit the great detail and dynamism Infinity models have.
I can understand not wanting metals, but plastic is not what CB stands for.
The compromise would be PVC, and nobody wants that.
Both GCT and Corvus Belli manage to produce metal miniatures which glue together, and stay glued, surprisingly well. I think the often slim designs help as metal’s main weakness is the weight of parts.
Make sure to use decent superglue, not the 3 for £1 rubbish. I buy 5g Loctite bottles online in bundles of 5-10. Cheaper and the glue doesn’t degrade before you’ve used the whole bottle. Also look out for a cyanoacrylate accelerator pen or spray. Makes life a whole lot easier.
If your models weren’t staying together, you were probably doing something wrong or simply using an inferior glue. Rarely ever have a problem with any metal models and that included the ones from GW. In fact, I’ve only ever had to pin one mini and that was a conversion.
Having grown up on some of the old-school metal dragons and vehicles from GW and others, where you needed 3 sets of arms to put the damn things together and hold them there, and then they would invariably fall to pieces during play, all of the Infinity miniatures have been rather easy by comparison! Modern super glues are awesome (go for Zzzap medium or Rocket) and the CB miniatures are generally very finely produced with clean fits and small parts not bearing much weight. I haven’t had to pin any of my collection, and that includes TAGs. Plus, as good… Read more »
maybe it will be like dropzone commander, standard models in 1 material, starter kit in plastic?
I am hoping plastic too. As it will speed up supply and demand as having too many casters can be expensive, more so than ordering plastic and creating the moulds. 🙁
So, is this the actual 3rd edition with new rules etc or is it an expansion of rules like Paradisio but with miniatures as well?
Its a rewrite of the rules that work with the older books like paradisio. It will not contain info that the campaign book dles though, as they didnt want to take the glory away from owning the other books. 🙂
Umour has it that if you read it cover to cover and then clap your hands 100 times and spin around, you will be able to do the moonwalk as good as Michael Jackson. A bit of a weird fact I know, but its a true story honest. 🙂
I use my friends book for the rules So I could, in theory buy this set and not need to buy the first two(?) books (but still need to buy Paradisio).
From the earlier teaser photos this set contains some form of quick start rules with a series of scenarios in, not the actual 3rd edition rulebook. Judging by previous releases the 3rd edition rules will be free online again though.
Ok, challenge accepted. But if it turns out to not work I’ll come back here and haunt you ;P
Not sure mate, I know in theBoW interview, they mentioned that they didnt want to make previous books obsolete. Problem with that is that you still most of the books. Would have prefered one book +Paradisio, I am hoping this will be the case. 🙂
Well depending on factions included this might be one way for me to enter Infinity. And I have no bias against metal so I am okay with miniatures that come with box being metal instead of plastic. Then again it does make that box rather heavy.
The cover shows Nomads and PanOceania as the factions.
Well if that is so then I am fine by that. After all PanO is one of my options for possible Infinity faction besides of Yu Jing.
This is just another must have from CB. *shakes fist*
*stares at the infinity website till the pre-order option appears*
You don’t need to buy the books to play the game, as the rules and army lists are free to download from Cb’s website, it’s just the fluff and artwork that is exclusive to the books! And the campaign rules and missions in Paradisio
It’s great they have free rules and all but sometimes it’s nice to have a book in your hands (yes you can print etc but it’s not the same). I use a lot of electronic devices for my games, waroom etc but I find these small a5 rules only books great for when you are at the table, just seems there missing a great opportunity here for it
My guess is that a big-arse hardbacked rulebook probably would have pushed up the weight and cost of the set. It isn’t really necessary in light of the separate rulebook only release (coming later in the year) and the fact that you can download the full rules for free from the website if you are a new player and have exhausted the quick start rules.
So, I think that’s pretty much all of the bases covered here really!
Not really, the big rulebook is not great for when your at the table, trying to search for rules on PDF can be annoying at times and QS rules last 5 min andvprinted rules from PDF is messy. I’ve used the small A5 rules for Malifaux, 40k and WFB. These are great use for when your at the tabke and there not big or heavy to take up soace in the starter set, just the rukes and no fluff/artwork. I just see it as a no brainier to include these things in starter sets is all.
It takes seconds to search for what is needed on the wiki if some rare thing happens. One less thing to carry around is a great thing to me.
